The grouper is a large fish, undoubtedly the king of the Mediterranean. I was able to capture the images in this video in the waters of the Medes Islands, within the protected space of the Montgrí Natural Park, the Medes Islands and the Baix Ter. This small work shows us that groupers are large and strong animals, which when they are adults have few enemies, except for humans. When they are free from the pressure of fishing, they show us that they are very calm animals and tolerate the presence of divers well.
But it is also a fish highly valued for its meat, which has led to overexploitation of its populations. To safeguard this and many other coastal marine species, there is a need to create fishing reserves and protected natural areas, as well as promote sustainable fishing practices.
