A SINGLE mother is struggling to cope with her twin boys who suffer from an extremely rare condition - which makes them eternally hungry. Stevie and Eddie Ahern were born with Prader-Willi Syndrome and autism, a devastating combination that leaves them prone to extreme anger and violent outbursts. The twelve-year-old, thirteen stone boys are becoming increasingly stronger and more stubborn meaning their mother Dianna Schatzlein-Ahern, 55 is considering involving the authorities. In order to stop them eating she has to lock up her refrigerator, cupboards, cat food and even cleaning products - which they have been known to try and drink.

They probably also had financial problems as a result of this disease. So many things adding up would put a lot of tension in the house. Hopefully he’s at least still involved with the kids.

For the people saying they should go on a Vegan diet, yes it would be spectacular, but remember she is a single working mother of two. Sometimes buying fruits & vegetables can be more expensive than a package of pasta... Especially for two kids who inhale their food.

That's an amazing mother right there. i am a single mom also dealing with a sometimes unruly son and a baby girl with waardenburg syndrome and its alot to handle and to have 2 babies exactly the same age, syndrome, autism..etc. I don't know if i could be as strong as her. She is absolutely amazing
The sad problem with Prader-Willi Syndrome is that they lack whatever chemical/enzyme it is that tells your brain that you are satiated from eating. So they literally feel like they are actually starving all the time (hence the desperate attempts to eat any food they see). Even worse, the disease causes you to have an extremely low metabolism, so even on 1,200 calories a day, they may still gain weight. Very sad, but what a wonderful mother!
Most people who have a Prada willy syndrome children only have one and it's the hardest thing in the would to keep in control of I can't imagine what this lady goes threw dealing with 2 children

I'm a carer and studying to be a nurse and although she may feel guilty a home dedicated to this illness that takes them a few hours a data a week could really help her. She can't do this alone. Everyone needs help during those hard times.

There are a lot of people are negatively commenting on the kids' obesity. Part of the symptoms of Prader William syndrome is extreme hunger. It is a genetic disorder it is out of their control.

I have taught someone with this condition. It is hell for the sufferer. If they are awake they think of food all the time. My pupil told me that she dreamt of food.
No matter how much they eat, their stomach never sends the message that it's full, so they are perpetually hungry.
The one that I taught had a mild version of the condition, and tried to control herself, but on a bad day she would begin the day with breakfast, then went to childcare before school (both parents started work early) where she would say she had not had breakfast, so got a second one. The school cafeteria opened early, and she would have a third breakfast.
At morning break she ate things she had bought on the way to school, and go to the cafeteria again. I suspect some of the money was stolen from home.
She would have a packed, sensible lunch, then eat more things that she had bought, before going to the cafeteria again. Throughout the day she persuaded friends to give her food. She was very sneaky and very persuasive.
These down times could last all week, yet another week she was in control and only ate what the family provided. I'm fairly sure that some days she ate 10,000 calories or more.
To the critics in this comments section, you need to walk a mile in their shoes before you comment. They do not choose to be like this. They cannot be blamed for their problems any more than I can be blamed for having brown eyes.

They will eat till they die it doesnt matter what they eat. The stomach is only so big. They have to stop eating at somepoint or the stomach will explode. Doesnt matter how good the food is for you.

They should eat a high carb, low fat plant based diet. You can eat wayyy more food than on a standard american diet without gaining weight.

I watched another documentary on RUclips and according to that, those with pradder willi syndrome have about one third of a normal metabolism, so it is extra hard for them to be slim.

Because they'll do anything to get their hands on food including raiding garbage from their own home, neighbors school anywhere they can find it they'll eat it. I'm sure can be with them 24/7 so she can only control them to a point
+moonlight kisses I saw a doc once of a boy with this same condition. His parents had to put chains around the fridge and padlocks on the cupboards. They got in trouble with DFCS because someone reported him eating out of the neighborhood dumpster and would beg and steal food from the cafeteria at school. He eventually lost some weight but if I remember correctly he gained it back and more and ate himself to death.

Boy am I glad I was diagnosed when I was a baby, I’m not the average person with Prader willi, I always have on thing to say to it which gets me through it which is clear off PWS you put me through all the struggles you put through but I’m here to stay for a fair while yet
