      Simple media politics. MiB is in bed with NBC, which is perfect for the OG show since they have the EPL. But they don't have rights to any women's football coverage at all. Since MiB are partners, not employees, they could loan Sam to some of the other networks, but these media companies are weird about that kinda stuff.

    Korbin Albert and Sam Coffey impressed me the whole tournament! Right place, right time kind of players with tremendous drive and stamina. Honestly I can't tell whether they had some struggles connecting passes, or whether teammates struggled to keep up with their intensity and positional awareness. Either way, color me optimistic going forward!

    Pressing a possession control team like Brazil, (Spain, France) disrupts their offensive rhythm and causes havoc in their passing game. Pressing all over the pitch, fighting every 50-50 ball and getting a toe in to disrupt every Brazilian pass is not easy, it's exhausting for both the offense and defense, but that's what the USA squad did for 90 plus minutes. It was a brilliant strategy and even better on the pitch performance by the entire squad. With that kind of pressure, one beautiful goal made, is all it took to take Brazil out of their comfort zone and caused them to look confused and unorganized. With smart, determined play like that, this team and their coaching staff will go far into the Olympics in a few months and should be great to see. Congratulations!

    Spot on Sam, as usual. One thing that got me was the erratic performance of the referees. I know that the teams were from such a large geographic area that they needed refs to match that but some of the games were poorly refed. And VAR was not much help at all. But this was great experience for the Olympics. Could not get a greater range of styles, conditions and intensity leading up to the Olympics. Be interesting to see how the She Believes Cup goes, as three of the teams were here and Japan is usually a contender, so game on. And maybe we will get Catarina Macario back!!!

    Spot-on with #1. We have to improve our building out, both technically and decisionally (tempo: try the penetrating pass or just keep it?). Far too many errant passes.
    Pressing from the front suits this roster well ... but our forwards need to improve their individual defending. Basics like not stabbing and letting donkey-footed defenders go around you and not fouling a player who's just shielding.
    I suspect and hope Albert played so much because she's one of the few on the roster who has both the technical ability and quickness to operate in midfield pockets and keep and shift the ball. Impressed with her, and her decision-making is only going to improve with time. I think both PSG and Coach Hayes rate her, and I hope she can become an elite 8 for the next decade. (Horan played so much because ... well, she's the captain and a boss.) Against weaker teams, we can even go Albert, Horan, Lavelle in the midfield and just dominate possession.
    I'll take the win and trophy. If the USMNT beat Brazil, international news, right? I want to see Coach Hayes improve our ball-retention and circulation, especially in the final third. Our D is solid. It was solid in the World Cup. The problem has been the stagnant, erratic attack. We have to use the flanks more expansively and intentionally, and adding a left-footed, attack-minded 3 like Nighswonger will absolutely help on the left. Better possession and playing higher up the field then syncs with counter-pressing. And if these rising teams like Colombia and Mexico think they can still press us, we have to be tactically flexible enough to play direct sometimes to advance and shift the game to their half.
    Great rebound after Mexico. And we haven't even added Swanson, Macario, and Thompson. If they come back 100%, I like it.

    The subs in the 2nd half were Williams, Smith, Purce, Shaw and Krueger in that order. It just seemed like the USWNT put in 5 fast, forward-like players who could play defense all over the field. Speed, speed, ... , and speed. As consequence, Brazil never came back. And oh yeah, Fox's cross from distance to Horan was amazing.

      @sh0t0kan 6 месяцев назад +1

      Korbin compliments Lindsey in the middle and Sam, I was hard on her after Mexico but she blew me away as the tournament went on. Like Emily Fox she is grit. I like Rose she is fast and when she's "on" she is awesome on the ball, but I just don't see her being effective in the middle and consistent with her form. I don't know if it's in between the ears with her. The pressure to having to compete, knowing that there is a change coming and the uncertainty of where you sit on the new managers list maybe effecting her play. But if you watch the match against Argentina where she was class under a hard press and watch the match against Brazil again under the same type of pressure she is chaotic. You will get what I mean when I say inconsistent. IDK maybe Emma can pull out of her what we know can do and that is ball out. There isn't anyone I wouldn't trust more to come off the bench more than Rose, but to me she is a bench player, not a starter. I don't think she will have an issue remaining on the roster for Paris (afterwards idk I believe this is the same for a lot of girls.)

    Hello Sam. It must be the Yorkshire puddings that brought the magic back?
    One of my favourite US players from this team is Midge Purce, so it was good to hear you say she did well, as they all did.
    I did feel at times like it was a "One nil to the Arsenal" or "Boring, boring Arsenal" type game, but the main idea was to win for this team and you also described it a bit like this.

    It's been very cool to see this team growth through the whole tournament. Kinda sad that Debinha played so little and one of the best center backs in the world was out injured for Brazil (and no Kerolin Nicoli thanks to injury)
    The high press was amazing against these teams but it has some holes. There's a lot of betting where the ball is going and the likes of France, Spain, England and Japan will adjust very quickly.
    In the semis I said that getting in the referees head is something every great team does and Morgan and Horan were inside the refs ear quite a lot.
    For me as an outsider, the surprise of the tournament was Coffey. She went from a ghost in the pitch to a war machine winning every 50/50 while leaving the opposition feeling destroyed in the process. I did not know she had that in her.
    Thank you so much for these takeaways and for letting us act like we know something about the sport in the comments lol

    The sad truth is that this game reminded me of the times just 5 or 6 years ago when I never watched women's football.
    It was basically a track meet --
    the only rare sequences of up to 5 passes by either team involved 3 or more between the center backs and goalkeeper.
    Neither team will amount to much against European opposition -- everyone has a Thigh Master and bar bells these days.
    Saddest of all for those who love the game is to witness the delirium generated by the repeated punt/sprint/out of bounds/throw in/goal kick/corner sequence as if this is something to celebrate.
    Brazil will not go anywhere because they have no coach to guide their talent;
    the USWNT have the prospect of Hayes but, judging by Chelski,
    she achieves the bare minimum with the maximum that money can buy.

If you didn't think to get any content like that for your show then shame on you cos you clearly missed a trick, big time. That's the type of content that no ordinary journalist (no matter how good they may be) could get. You were a special player (who topped the stats poll as the best player at the 2019 World Cup, even outperforming Megan Rapino), and if you're going to make a major impact as a commentator/pundit then you gonna have to be a little more thoughtful about how to get the best value out of your (I was so good I kept the great Lindsey Horan on the bench in the world cup final) ex-player status.
