      Hii!! Sooo I got a 3 on the AP Govt & Politics exam hahaha. Many of the questions were from previous exams, so remember to take lots of mock exams! If you pay attention in class and take notes throughout the year then you will be fine :) Once I saw the questions on the exam I was able to remember most of it hahaha.. There were a lot of FRQs with many parts, and those were probably what messed up my score > < Study study! And it helps if you actually look forward to the class and show interest in learning the materials. I had a wonderful teacher who really made the class fun and interesting.

    • @missiknowathingortwo2165
      @missiknowathingortwo2165 8 лет назад

    I'm actually pretty excited to watch the rest of this series, despite not being a US citizen. I'm hoping that the way the course is presented will explain government and politics in general, using the US as a sort of over-arching case study. In any case, learning about it should prompt me to go and research the differences to this system in my own country, which can only be a good thing :)

  • @Phazon8058MS

    Correction, anarchy is the rejection of unjust hierarchical systems, not rejection of government. Some anarchists reject government as well, but not all.

    • @mawkishwarden172
      @mawkishwarden172 9 лет назад +42

      Anarchy - absence of government and absolute freedom of the individual, regarded as a political ideal.

    • @Phazon8058MS
      @Phazon8058MS 9 лет назад +6

      Blue Musketeer Dictionary definitions mean nothing. Ask any anarchist to define anarchy, and they'll give you the definition I did, or something extremely similar.
      The definition I gave is the definition anarchists have been using for over 100 years.

    • @RustyShackleford1066
      @RustyShackleford1066 9 лет назад +37

      Words have meaning, if an anarchist suggests a form of goverment, then they're not a anarchist. Similar to if a person who says they're christian says "Jesus never existed and there is no god", they're not a Christian.

    • @mawkishwarden172
      @mawkishwarden172 9 лет назад +8

      PhazonSpaceSystems All that tells me is that Anarchists are either ignorant or in denial about what their ideology is.

    • @Phazon8058MS
      @Phazon8058MS 9 лет назад +6

      Jacob Lively Blue Musketeer Government and the state are not exactly one and the same. Anarchists do reject the state. Anarchists define the state is a centralized institution controlled by an elite minority, a monopoly on the legitimate use of violence, and a geographical area over which this force is exercised.
      Ask any anarchist to define the state, that's the definition they'll give you. A government is just a system that people use to run society. A government can be hierarchical like we have in the world today, or it can be non-hierarchical such as direct democracy.
      Most anarchists subscribe to some sort of collective, democratic, non-hierarchical governance. If you're going to try and define what anarchists believe, you should actually know what they believe first.
      EDIT: I would also just like to clarify that within the anarchist community, their really isn't much agreement on how to define government. The definition I gave is the one I personally use, but some anarchists may reject that definition.

    Typo in the opening credits 1:52: "apppointed." I would like to introduce a motion to form a committee to look into researching an investigation of Thought Café for urinating in public because there is at least 50% too much "p" in that word. Will anyone second the motion?

      All those in favour of this motion say "aye". On the contrary "no". I think the "ayes" have it? The ayes have it. Is a division required? Ring the bells for four minutes.
      Lock the doors.
      The results of the division are as follows: "Ayes" 73, "no's" 34. The division is therefore resolved in the affirmative. I call the member for....

    Please talk about anarchy. Anarchist theory isn't about destruction, it is about a rejection of authority because they believe that no one person has the natural right to tell someone what they can and can't do. Is this a good way of government? I don't think so but I do know that having knowledge of this type of government is helpful into understanding the political process as a whole.

    • @Naiadryade
      @Naiadryade 9 лет назад +4

      Thank you. I also hope they end up talking about anarchism. It's insulting that it is dismissed with just a reference to the Sex Pistols. Anarchism has a much longer history and much more nuanced proposals for ways to organize society than that--complete with big books by old white dudes from the 1800's. (Also Emma Goldman, and plenty of more contemporary theory.) It was called "libertarian socialism" before libertarian capitalism became a thing and started being referred to simply as libertarianism. (Anarchism is decidedly anti-capitalist, and they didn't want people to get confused.)

    I'm making the following predictions: CC is going to state some facts about the US government and politics (obviously). Right wingers will call CC liberal for stating these facts.

    • @Kenandan
      @Kenandan 9 лет назад +33

      CC is very liberal. But that in itself does not matter. I am a libertarian/conservative but i still enjoy their videos. Jacy I think has the grasp of it. They most likely will talk about how the constitution formed and each of the roles of the government. What they wont talk about, is how the federal government has grown beyond the scope of what it should be. If the federal government followed the constitution, we wouldn't have Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, etc. Our federal debt would be considerably lower, if not gone.

    • @Ancor3
      @Ancor3 9 лет назад +16

      Kenandan Pretty sure that Medicare, Medicaid and stuff aren't unconstitutional. But I agree, the federal debt would probably not exist. Also, poverty rates would be much higher and societal health much worse.

    • @jacobhamblin5875
      @jacobhamblin5875 9 лет назад +11

      Best case scenario is that this series goes like CC American History went. They stayed unbiased and just presented all philosophies and where they came from. Yes, stupid people still complained about how that series went, but I don't find that any worse than using the term "Right Wingers" as a derogatory term.
      Seriously people, can't we all just get along?

    • @Ancor3
      @Ancor3 9 лет назад +24

      Jacob Hamblin
      "Right wingers" is not a derogatory term, it's a simplistic method of labeling people on the right of the political spectrum. The fact of the matter is that many people on the political right call everything they don't like "liberal". And when I say everything I mean EVERYTHING! I've even seen a discussion where a republican called a libertarian a liberal due to a disagreement (a libertarian of all people). It's almost like an automatic response to them. Don't like fact X? Call it liberal, that will solve everything!

    • @Kenandan
      @Kenandan 9 лет назад +9

      They are outside the bounds of the federal government. The only thing the federal government is suppose to do, is listed in Article 1, Section 8.
      They can add additional powers through the amendment process, but otherwise everything else is regulated to the states via the Bill of Rights. That is why they are unconstitutional.
      Poverty rates have never changed. They are roughly the same. No major change in poverty levels after 50 years, and trillions of dollars.
      In fact, today we have a welfare mentality. There is people who refuse to work, because they make more money from the government through welfare then by working a 40 hour work week. This is a problem. For these people, there is no incentive for them to go and look for work. So they stay home, and hurt themselves through a lack of gained skills. These people can't save for the future, have no retirement plans and become more and more depended on the government to take care of them.
      This creates a dependency cycle. This then causes the government to again step outside their powers to create more government programs and regulations, which puts more people on the government doles, which then puts more and more strain on the government, causing more debt and higher taxes. Which then puts more strain on businesses, causing them to deal with these regulations, and taxes. Businesses pass on the taxes to the consumer, and lay off employees to cut costs. Which causes people to go onto welfare.
      There is a breaking point, and when it does break, things can go completely out of control.
      When ever congress seeks to pass a new law, or the president says he is going to do something, the questions that should be asked is: At what cost? Who is going to lose? Could this be better achieved at a more local area?
      Getting back to the topic of unconstitutional. Progressives, not all liberals (Democrats), bear in mind, cite the first "power" in Article 1, Section 8 to support their programs.
      The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;
      They forget though, that the constitution is a compact between the federal government, and the states. Not between the federal government and the people. The federal government must look after the common defense and the general welfare of the states, not its people.
      Many people don't understand this, and even the supreme court failed to understand this. Why would the founding fathers of this country, who had just had a revolt against a government that was all controlling, put in their constitution a means for the government to have a broad unrestricted power that they were fighting against?
      Sorry for the long winded power to your smaller one Afro.
