From my visits in Russia, I have also experienced that there are no (superficial) laughters and smiles to lubricate public life. However, this must not be mistaken for disinterest or emotional coldness. In my country, Norway, older people from the rural districts (especially in older days) were people of fewer words and smiles and laughters, and I think Norway and Russia have more in common in life attitude and culture than USA and Norway, even if USA has a superficial influence on our culture. Am I right?
