You're really worried here about your commentary, but I think you did great. You described what was happening in a way that I always knew more or less what was going on, you did a good job talking about tricks and tech, and you talked about the things that made the run exciting or fun. Definitely a pretty good commentary, I would say a bit over average. If you want some advice to improve further, maybe (1) a bit more humor (a bit of riffing on the game - which, I understand your reluctance on that given the game's reputation, and you want to bring people in, but you can keep it good-natured and it shouldn't come across as "game bad" - or some self-depreciation for your own mistakes, or so on). Or (2) a bit deeper information, like "this is how we used to have to do this section", "here's what we're hoping for the future", "here's some changes to the routing" - basically, a bit more specifics to really give more of a history of the run. Hey, I value this feedback immensely. Really helps a lot. I think the most daunting thing was by far the DURATION of this, it’s always hard to keep this going solo for so long. I think I thrive better within the 30 min - 2 hour range, and I do use a lot more succinct detailed information and have more set jokes. One large part of “what we used to do here” that’s difficult in this category is that this was my second run ever, and my routing was pretty much done from scratch so I wouldn’t be influenced by pathing that the previous WR before my two runs (10:58:40) did, so that really wasn’t as much of a possibility in my case. Either way, I thank you a ton, and I hope you’ll stick around for more of my stuff in the future and on my Twitch channel!

A program where the admins manually check the start and end stamps created by an algorithm which detects certain markers for both screen freezes and proper loading screens. Still a partially manual process but allows for much fairer leaderboards, though due to limited resources we only have loadless as a standard above a certain RTA threshold and for the most important leaderboards. Always a highpoint imo even though I've always felt more indifferent to the series generally the music has always been very enjoyable!
Sonic 2, 3 & Knuckles, Colors and Generations are all great starting points for newcomers. (Although I wouldn't pay too much attention to the story in Colors or Generations. Since they're some of the worst written games in the series. Every game after 2010 has a poor story in one way or another.) PS: Almost forgot about Sonic Mania! That one's also amazing.
@@PrimevalDemon No, actually. It has some new content, like a new story, new stages, and new characters as well. It also was developed in a completely new engine, called Retro Engine. So it's not just an enhanced port/collection. (You might know this already, but the entire game, from gameplay to the soundtrack, was created completely by fans!)
@@WaggishZX Yeah, that works too lol. I was just trying to expose him to some of best, and easiest to get used to stuff before he tried something else that could potentially turn him off. Like Unleashed, or the Storybook Series. (I'm not saying Unleashed is bad at all, btw. It's just not what I'd recommend to a beginner; since it's so different from anything else in the entire series and also very difficult.)
How do you speedrun a game known to be this buggy? Do the bugs aid in the spped rumning? Or are the bugs really not as omnipresent as thwy've made out to be?
Both. Most bugs are advantageous, and controllable. The game can have some wonkiness but it’s easy to skirt around those portions through the plenty of movement tech.
@@FocusSight thanks for the reply, I'm making my way through every sonic game at the mo and 06 is one I'm weirdly very excited for. The ol game grumps lets play really made the game look as bad as possible didn't it.
@@dittm3r No? That's an attract mode on the title screen, the opening cutscenes happen after selecting Sonic's Story, which can be skipped with the start button. (That's those load screens with just the "Now Loading" animation)
The Silver medals give 10 gold medals in Shadow and Silver, as well as 11 in Sonic and 1 in last, making up 32 of the 180 gold medals in the game. Getting all gold medals was supposed to unlock a free play mode where you could roam the hub world as any character, but such a mode (and the many other features like a Super Sonic gem, a series of items that contain past Sonic game OSTs) only exist in the final as unused text.

Only handful of minutes into the vid but love the commentary! Also I love sonic music generally.
Every game after 2010 has a poor story in one way or another.)
PS: Almost forgot about Sonic Mania! That one's also amazing.
@@Axel_Does_Stuff isn't sonic mania just like a compilation or collection of older games?
@@PrimevalDemon No, actually.
It has some new content, like a new story, new stages, and new characters as well. It also was developed in a completely new engine, called Retro Engine. So it's not just an enhanced port/collection.
(You might know this already, but the entire game, from gameplay to the soundtrack, was created completely by fans!)
Just play the main line games in order and you should be fine
@@WaggishZX Yeah, that works too lol.
I was just trying to expose him to some of best, and easiest to get used to stuff before he tried something else that could potentially turn him off. Like Unleashed, or the Storybook Series.
(I'm not saying Unleashed is bad at all, btw. It's just not what I'd recommend to a beginner; since it's so different from anything else in the entire series and also very difficult.)
this is really entertaining
How do you speedrun a game known to be this buggy? Do the bugs aid in the spped rumning? Or are the bugs really not as omnipresent as thwy've made out to be?
Both. Most bugs are advantageous, and controllable. The game can have some wonkiness but it’s easy to skirt around those portions through the plenty of movement tech.
@@FocusSight thanks for the reply, I'm making my way through every sonic game at the mo and 06 is one I'm weirdly very excited for.
The ol game grumps lets play really made the game look as bad as possible didn't it.
@@whipseryname4295 It is also on the PS3 version which does generally run worse.
1:44:02 i’m gonna do what’s called a pro gamer move!
Are you gonna try breaking this again?
I would love to watch a more perfect run!
Speedruns start after opening cutscenes?
@@dittm3r No, timing starts at selecting the story on the menu from a blank file.
You just edited the opening out?
@@dittm3r No? That's an attract mode on the title screen, the opening cutscenes happen after selecting Sonic's Story, which can be skipped with the start button. (That's those load screens with just the "Now Loading" animation)
I haft to ask what was the purpose of the silver and gold medals
The Silver medals give 10 gold medals in Shadow and Silver, as well as 11 in Sonic and 1 in last, making up 32 of the 180 gold medals in the game. Getting all gold medals was supposed to unlock a free play mode where you could roam the hub world as any character, but such a mode (and the many other features like a Super Sonic gem, a series of items that contain past Sonic game OSTs) only exist in the final as unused text.
this is what a insane person would do
guilty as charged, officer
@@FocusSight so you plead insanity at this point
@@FidgetyAttic you didn't watch the video lol
@@FocusSight oh no this is just a joke about people enjoying 06 being crazy I just call it insane cause this is the first speedrun I have seen of 06 and no I did not watch all of the video I plan to I am an hour in and you have shown me ways I can have even more fun with this game like spin dash canceling wall clipping and something I didn't know of that you could do which is defeating enemies in quicker and smarter ways than just homing attacks but yeah so far from what I have seen amazing run you are extremely underrated
oh yeah those extra ways im talking about is sliding through enemies mainly idk why I said ways
What do the gold medals do im just wondering because me and my brother got them then nothing happened
Nothing. They’re simply collectibles, but with no payoff.
@@FocusSight oh ok well I gotta get this game back I love it and this was my first sonic game
@@FocusSightimagine if they finished the game and getting them will unlock their super forms I want a remake of 06 so bad
Project 06 is 06 finished
Back then when I was dumb I thought when you when you collect all of them you unlock Super Sonic lol
Funnily enough, even though you did not need to get them all, super Sonic in every level was supposed to be unlockable in the game
@@orlandofurioso7329 really he was? That’s cool to imagine playing as Super Sonic in all sonic 06 stages
@@blackheartaesthetic4432 it's all in the didyouknowgaming video
I’ll be playing the game and getting all S Ranks
Look at this dude
orange soda
Just by looking at this game I’d say it’s like 40% finished
P.S also the medal placements look unfinished as well
In car festival i got through barracaded road with buggy and won
1:20:58 game grumps Jon era anyone?
6:04:59 My intial reaction to that is what

Aw yea someone did it
I want to play this rushed game
It costs basically nothing on 360 store
Woah, nice!
4:49:01 Gordon Ramsay??
This is the 5th time i watch this
kingdom valley sonic was the worst level in the game. it took me like 6 hours for the normal and hard s ranks
I'm sorry those degens harassed you, you don't deserve that, pal.
Hi from the GDQhotfix
Imma be honest Ik this is considered the worst sonic game and I see it’s flaws but for some reason I can’t hate the game and I actually really like it and think it’s miss understood.
Sonicman got destroyed man :c
It's stuff like this that justifies my continued screaming into the void that patches in games shouldn't be mandatory.

"It would be faster if there wasn't so many loading screens"
- A Sonic 06 Hater, of course -
I can only imagine how quick the load screens would be on Xbone or Series X. Reeeeeeally hope this game makes it to backwards compatibility someday :S
