UPDATE 10/27/12: The new version of the WAIK for 2012 is called ADK (Assesment and deployment kit) Much of these concepts on WIM images are the same up until the video starts talking about ImageX.exe. All the features of ImageX.exe are now combined into DISM.exe, which was used for servicing WIM images WAIK and now also captures and applies images ADK. Make note of these differences for the version of deployment tool kit you choose to download!

It's nothing like a Ghost image...... WIM is a "file" based image. Ghost is a "sector" image.

They are indeed like Ghost images. They're used to store and transfer machine images. Similar to how a car with a gas engine is like a car with a diesel engine. Are they exactly the same? No, of course not. But to say a car with a gas engine is literally nothing like a car with a diesel engine would be silly. And so I think your comment is very silly.

      He's got a point.
Ghost images are really sector by sector so the destination hardware needs to be very similar. Bout sector is part of the image.
wim file based images are hardware independent, they are more like zip or rar files, but with filter duplication detection. Also no not sector is saved in a wim file.
I find it rather strange how you react to a comment, especially if it is actually right, sorry. So peace 🤗
