I had to step away from my novel for a while, due to writer's block, stress, life just being chaotic, and whatnot. On top of that I lost my outline/idea journal that I spent months on!!! Grrrrr. Now, as life has gotten slower, I'm excited to slowly fall back in love with my novel and try again.
Second NaNoWrimo here! I can say my first one was a total mess, but it was fun. The only thing I felt like it was missing was a group to talk to, because I participated without making any connection. It was pretty lonely, so this year I joined a bunch of communities (including Abbie's!) to get more motivated and share my success with someone. Highly rec to do that! Also the immersive writing videos are a blessing, my unfocused brain love them as they have music, timer and natural sounds all together.
@@kaokurosawa3872 Hi! I follow Heart Breathings, whose community has both a facebook group and discord! Also check the NaNoWrimo site to find your local community! Feel free to add me as buddy as well
Hahaha i tried NaNo last year for the first time, too. Switched story ideas 4 days in, with predictable results. It was a disaster. Here's to our second take going better!
@@picklethepirate I had this story idea for years and last year I decided "you know what? I will take advantage of NaNo and write it!". Pantsed all the way and it was such a mess! I read it again like a month ago and it was even worst than I rememebered ahahah. One day I will rewrite it and use that as an outline, but for now a better planned project is way more enjoyable!
i tried nanowrimo in 2020 but i was going through lots of anxiety and my story was still a little too heavy in theme for where my mind was at. This year i prepped in october, joined communities to feel full and guided and best of all this year i’m allowing myself to try writing a genre i avoided for a while because i thought it wasn’t “mature” or “interesting” enough. so yeah, to any writers going through a life moment that isn’t conducive to creating just know that the up’s and downs of life actually help hone you as an author and can even build your story because you’ll have more experiences and emotions to tap into ❤ God bless all of you and let’s take this one step at a time folks
Thank you both. This was so helpful to listen to. It's been a rough time since September and I needed some tips for getting back into writing. You're awesome.
I'm exactly the opposite. I am most creative at night. That's why my nano region is doing the first writing sprint right at midnight to start November XD. Which is also in one hour, I can't wait.
Prepping for nano has been hard, because I've only had a few days to come up with ideas and to make an outline. I have an idea with two acts outlined, but I've been doubting the idea and the contents of it, and it really showcases a big struggle I have with sticking to ideas and not appreciating myself as much as a writer. I hope I can do something, but it feels hopeless as the hours go by and time gets closer to November 1st. Thanks for this video, keep up the great work!
Here it is November 1, and I am sitting here wondering what story I will write, lol. A tip that very much helps me is that the first draft is for yourself, edits are for your readers. The goal of nanowrimo is to get familiar with your own writing style and have a good time getting your inconsistent, plot-holes-ridden ideas down on paper, looking at your mess at the end of the month with satisfaction and not beating yourself up for it. And it's okay if you nano rebelliously and jump around to different projects; focus on the aspects of nano that motivate you and ignore the rest. Nano is perfect for perfectionists and procrastinators and people waiting years for their muse to show up, as conditions will never be ideal and it is time to just write. For some writers, writing more than a two-act outline would backfire anyway, as their characters will tell them what choices they make as the authors get to know them. Rooting for you!
Bless you sisters for making this. I think the key with this is going to be focusing on input rather than output. Set tiny tiny minigoals, and consider every day a success even if you write down 1 word in the day. I believe in you guys and we can do this!
I’ve actually recently begun writing three books myself! The first one is a grimdark cyberpunk action fantasy about an android samurai bounty hunter woman named Mara Varens. The second one is a psychological cosmic horror novel about dementia and the limits of forgiving people for committing human atrocities. It’s called Forest of Guilt. The third one is a poetry book about mental illness, trauma, social criticism and other dark topics written in the style of vulgar heavy metal songs. It’s called Soliloquies of Many Sufferings.
Hi Abbie, Can u please make a video for people who have Google docs about how to write a chapter by chapter outline using the doc even though u don't use it for your books. Also if I don't have a patron or any other kind of social media how else can I join the Live Training if I don't have any social media or patron, stay 1 on 1 with you and get better advice on my story? Thanks for your advice, it has changed both my life and my character's lives! Also please tell Katie I say hi 👋 even though u and her don't know me at all
first time truly trying NaNoWriMo, ‘excited but nervous’ is definitely the phrase to describe how i’m feeling
