Yup. I thought in 2002 we'd get gold because after 1998, the PBA still had so many great players that came to the league despite the Fil-Sham scandal... Danny Seigle, Noy Castillo, Asi Taulava, Eric Menk, even Pennisi playing stretch five in the early 2000's was unheard of. Ron Jacobs conducted a nationwide tryout and ended up with Selecta and Hapee playing in the Governor's cup against PBA teams with 2 imports under FIBA rules. Alapag was still an unknown and got injured with Selecta. Ren-Ren Ritualo, Davonn Harp, and Danny Ildefonso were with impressive with Hapee. Ron Jacobs badly wanted Mike Cortez because he was the best PG in the tryouts but his handlers at La Salle had him staying in the PBL for ICTSI. If Danny Seigle didn't get injured vs Qatar in an exhibition, for sure they beat Korea. No one in Asia that time (not even Fadi El-Khatib or Yaseen Ismail) can handle a prime Danny Seigle. China only had one play: give the ball to Yao Ming. Korea ends up beating China, and only Cariaso showed up to play the bronze medal game losing to Kazakhstan after being left out in '94, '98, and was the last guy on the bench for that '02 team. *edit What Olsen meant by "parang Manny Pacquiao" was that the commercials in that last sequence was about 15 minutes. The people at PTV/NBN must have milked all the ads because they knew everyone will turn off the TV and leave if they showed it "via satellite". Chino Trinidad (?) was like "ANG SAKIT NUN". None of the players wanted to be interviewed and Coach Jong was the first one to take the blame for the loss because he didn't have a plan if Olsen missed. He was so sure it was going to be a two-possession game assuming Olsen makes both free throws.
