Libertador, frente al CC “La Redoma” y a orillas del Lago, el Mercado Las Pulgas se erige como el epicentro económico del convulsionado casco central urbano de Maracaibo.
Entrar a este Mercado es increíble, es uno de los más inéditos y el tercero mas grande de Latinoamérica, cuenta con 37.097 metros cuadrados de construcción y alberga de manera formal a 7.000 pequeños y medianos comerciantes. “En el mercado de Las Pulgas se consiguen hasta los clavos de Cristo”.
Además es uno de los pocos que se encuentra a orillas de un lago y que por su gran tamaño vende una lista interminable de productos a las miles de personas que lo visitan diariamente. Construído en 1972 por el presidente Rafael Caldera, el Mercado de las Pulgas, llamado así por el ahora inexistente sector Las Pulgas, perteneció al proyecto de modernización de la ciudad de Maracaibo. Este proyecto incluyó entre otras cosas, la demolición del barrio El Saladillo en pleno centro de Maracaibo, y la remodelación de la Basílica de Nuestra Señora de Chiquinquirá.

My Dads brother worked for Esso in Cabimas and they lived in a company camp over there, Hugh Jackson, had a son Lyle and daughter Ginger in the sixties. My brother and I ended up going to school in Florida at Howie Academy after one year there my Dad was transfered back to the States, California

I don't know if Camp Richmond is still there off highway 6 but it would be nice to see pictures of that. My father worked in the Boscan Oilfields for around 17 years and had many friends there. I grew up there and loved it, weather was pretty much the same all year just a rainy season and a dry season. I remember when the oil tanker hit the bridge and took out a section of it. My brother and I went to Escuela Bella Vista. Such great memories of growing up in Venezuela. Wish it was still like it was in the sixties as I would love to go back and visit. Great country with really good people.

We lived there in early 60's across the lake ,then my folks and siblings lived there Maracaibo in 72-74 ,they went to Bella Vista,I had to stay in the states since the school only went to 10 grade.Liked it on my visits and stayed one summer.
