Great video! But what actually defines a statue? Is it the plastic resin figures that we buy from Prime1? Resin is thermosetting plastic which contains some pieces of grinded stone ;) Collect what you love and keep up the great videos :)
I appreciate your input and the video. I'm fairly new to collecting and have a handful of Weta 1/6 scale resin statues. I pre-ordered the JND Aragorn amd this will be my first statue/collectible of this caliber. I have seen lots of posts and videos of Sideshow, JND, Queen Studios, Prime1, Infinity Studios, etc. From what I've seen, JND really does nail statue composition and likeness. Maybe a couple of their pieces aren't 100% likeness, but still extremely close. As far as value, sure, you can get more "bang for your buck" from a higher volume statue company like Infinity or Prime1, but they have a lot more QC issues and overall "misses" when it comes to pose and likeness. They can afford this since they are producing lots of statues and collectibles. Attempting to compare preproduction or prototype images is a fools errand because all that matters is what ships, and from what I've seen from other collectors puts JND at the top as far as quality, likeness, composition, etc. Sure, the price tag demands a high amount, but I think you're getting what you're paying for; no lighting tricks or heavily edited photos. Obviously we wont know until this Aragorn ends up in people's hands, but I think it's going to be outstanding and will probably be a little better than the Queen Studios Aragorn. The pose on Queen's version is inferior.... there's no debate there. The face is debatable, but I think that comes down to artisitic interpretation. Do they both look like Aragorn played by Viggo Mortensen? Yes they do. Are they both 100% likeness... debatable. Lighting, angles, etc. all play into how it looks at any given perspective. At the end of the day, they are, without a doubt, Aragorn from Lord of the Rings. It all comes down to personal preference and what you're willing to spend your money on, based on which pose, outfit, or face you like the most. I am stoked for my JND piece to arrive, but I can see why it's so heavily debated as it's a huge purchase.

These things are way out of my price range. They're ridiculous. But I feel the same about Rolex watches. I'm just not their market now.
My other problem is the push for hyper realism. I'm fine with my statues looking like statues of characters. They don't have to look like actual mini versions of real people. And because these things have to be perfect, if they are off by even 5%, they look worse than polystone heads that are 20% off.
Hey matey, that’s an excellent point you raise! The likeness being off on sculpts is definitely way more forgiving! The fact that these companies are basically bragging ‘hyper real’ but not able to deliver that, in full, I would think is a little embarrassing?
Of course, that’s not always the case, both JND & Queens have, in the past, delivered some excellent likenesses!….
