I come from a non practicing Christian family but this song speaks to my heart and always makes me cry. The one person who doesn't like this song needs to open their mind up a bit and actually listen to the lyrics. This song sends a good message whether you are a Christian or not.
Wow reading this a lot of ppl are confused even though almost every 2 lines someone is explaing it to everyone. Right before the preacher dies he gives his bible to the hooker. The hooker survived and when she had a son she read him it. Plus her son turned out to be a preacher. It is a beautiful song. I love it. i cry every time.
I completely loved this song immediately after hearing it. Artists like Randy.. really wake up different devotions in people's heart just by their Pure and Extraordinary Country Songs. This song tells how Incredible it is to do Good and leave Useful Legacy to the New Generations. You're Astonishing Randy
My mom got me hooked on this song by Randy Travis. The oldies are the good stuff. In my opinion. The new ones of today are good but the oldies are sometimes are better. C.D.
i was riding in a vehicle.. listening to this song.. and on the highway.. there were 3 wooden crosses. i flipped out... it scared me. i dont know if this song is based upon something true or not. but regardless this song should touch everyone.. makes me cry...
Its common practice to place wooden crosses to mark deaths via vehicular accident, especially if the deceased has no living family or if they travel a lot, like truckers
There's one phrase to learn by from this song " It's not what you take when you leave this world behind you, it's what you leave behind you when you go."
how knows what happen i just know that my dad is a truck diver and it is the same way a simi can not stop on a dime well alot of truckers give there lives for people like this (people going to fast or not lokkin not saying that is what was going on) but there are not alot of songs for the truckers who give there lives for kids and other truckers but it is a vary good song and the song really speakes to me.
if u think about it not to get religous here but Jesus was a Farmer, a teacher and a preacher and he helps those in need and those three woodens crosses when he was crucifed.
There are two preachers in this song. The first one was on the bus and the second was the one at the end whose mother read the Bible to. The father, teacher, and preacher all died, but the hooker lived. Before the preacher died, he gave a blood-stained Bible (presumably the preacher's blood as he was dying from the accident) to the hooker. The hooker had a child who she read the Bible to, and the child became a preacher as an adult. The son of the hooker is the preacher who told the story that is being sung about.
@WithinWonder the farmer, teacher and preacher died.the hooker is the one who lived.she's the mother of the preacher who is telling the story.she didn't die cause she's the only one who wasn't saved.she still needed time to start believing in God.the lyrics goes:'he said:bless the farmer and the teacher and the preacher who gave this bible to my momma who read it to me.that momma is the hooker.she read that bible that the preacher from the train gave her,and her son became the preacher later on:)
@lollypophat2000 no its really not. if you really listen to the words, its about how you never know what impact you'll have on somone in a few short seconds. although the three people died, in a few short seconds the preachr was able to show the hooker the love of God and was able to change her and because of that one small event, the hooker's son is now a preacher. it actually really beautiful if you thnk about it
@jad2309 There are four passengers and three crosses. I.e., three of them died. The preacher died (hence the blood on the Bible). The hooker and the preacher did not get married... The preacher on the midnight bus and the the preacher that tells the story to the singer are different people. That may be the source of your confusion.
@kinneytowing She didn't get a cross at the side of the road because she didn't die in the crash. Whether or not she was pregnant at the time of the crash is irrelevent. The point is, she lived and she read that bible to the son she eventually had, so the preacher left something behind him--a legacy of love and faith, which he gave to the hooker, who passed it on to her son, who passed in on to his flock.
@Alfonzoczechguy97 because the car/semi/truck one of them hit the middle of the bus it happens alot. we had a bus that went through a stop sigh and was hit in the middle and killed 3 people weird theres three metal crosses they each have a name carved in.
@haydeebop The preacher that died in the accident gave his bible to the hooker, and when it says "Thats the story that our preacher told last sunday, as he held that blood stained bible up for all of us to see. He said 'Bless the farmer and the teacher and the preacher... who gave this bible to my momma who read this to me.'" The preachers mom was the hooker. The hooker didnt die in the accident, and instead had a son who became a preacher.
@1JonasLoveForever1 "Higher Education" is probably meant that they were on a mission trip to help in Mexico .. Higher meaning a Higher Power or god.. education in helping others they learn a life lesson...
@kelcieyager its okay im getting thoough it slowly it helps that all my friends are there for me mostly the ones that my dad thought of as his other kids
this song always brings tears to my eyes it's a real message that needs to be shared

So uh, where is the cross for the driver?Rhetorical question. I love this song. It is truly touching.
maybe God was the driver
The driver was in coma 50/50 that's why he was not counted to be dead or alive yet when this song was written.
this song makes me think of all the people in my life that have died in an acssedent may all of them rest im peace
He is right Heaven only knows.

@linsaybool How would it be blood stained before the crash if he gave it to her before???
The Preacher lived!!!!!!!!!

No, he didn't the one who lived was the hooker her son however grew up to be a preacher.
Kendra .M.Specht no he did not the hooker lived!!!!
No hun, listen again.
this is a very good song!
@SailorSammiify wait, if he gave it to her BEFORE the crash, how'd it have blood?
the driver was him man
@WithinWonder the farmer, teacher and preacher died.the hooker is the one who lived.she's the mother of the preacher who is telling the story.she didn't die cause she's the only one who wasn't saved.she still needed time to start believing in God.the lyrics goes:'he said:bless the farmer and the teacher and the preacher who gave this bible to my momma who read it to me.that momma is the hooker.she read that bible that the preacher from the train gave her,and her son became the preacher later on:)

how he ever sang this without crying....
@jad2309

The preacher on the midnight bus and the the preacher that tells the story to the singer are different people. That may be the source of your confusion.

best song ever
Who was headed for what? cuz the Farmer was obviously on vacation but all the other ones can be mixed and matched... what do you think?
What I wanna know is what happened to the driver?
@TheCosmodude i have been wondering that myself
@kinneytowing She didn't get a cross at the side of the road because she didn't die in the crash. Whether or not she was pregnant at the time of the crash is irrelevent. makes me cry
Why is there no cross for the Bus Driver?
it make of granny😞😞😞😞she is one year love her rest in pest😘😘😘😘😘😘
@emach15 don't you mean a midnight bus bound for mexico? X3
there are 3 wooden crosses on the right side of the road
@Alfonzoczechguy97 because the car/semi/truck one of them hit the middle of the bus it happens alot. we had a bus that went through a stop sigh and was hit in the middle and killed 3 people weird theres three metal crosses they each have a name carved in.
I love how its 171 to 1 on the likes and dislikes... one person is obviouly deaf.
I like this song
Some body is either soul less or by a mistake to give this a thumbs down!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or they dont under stand the story!!!!
Damn now that I know what the song is about it depresses the hell out of me😭
@haydeebop The preacher that died in the accident gave his bible to the hooker, and when it says "Thats the story that our preacher told last sunday, as he held that blood stained bible up for all of us to see. missed the "better start" :)
@kelcieyager its okay im getting thoough it slowly it helps that all my friends are there for me mostly the ones that my dad thought of as his other kids
the whole point of this song is to say that god is coming at any time
i suppose buried in a cemetery instead of next to the road
@567avril I heard the song and it was great but that is no excuse to not run the lyrics throught spell check!
