actually it was a dumb decision. he was bailed out by one of the worst coaches of all-time, josh mcdaniels, deciding to run the ball twice rather than be aggressive and put the ball in the hands of his best player and THE best player, tom brady. they had almost 500 yards of offense in this game, and most of it was passing. the game would have been over if he just threw the ball every down that drive.

Beating them in such clutch fashion really injected a ton of hope and excitement into the fanbase

You don't lay down and die (and punt the ball back to a team that is moving the ball well with 3 minutes left). In the Super Bowl, it was a very even game, but the refs actually made it easier for the Hawks, for example, not calling Chancellor for a severe and obvious head shot on Edelman... among other things.
