You can find this opinion about any actor in their respective video essay. In an analysis of Inglorious Basterds, Cristoph Waltz's performance is called the greatest. In an analysis of Amadeus, F. Murray Abrahams' performance is called the greatest. I'm not saying I disagree with you, but that argument can be made about so many roles that you have to ask how many "one of the bests" can there be.
Considering the amount of movies that have existed since the inception of film I think its still fair to say one of the best when its appropriate. It seems like it invalidated the word “best” but when I back up and look at all the films ever made, probably in the hundreds of thousands? It makes more sense.
Youre amazing!!! I was in jazz band when this movie came out....... Needless to say...... We understood that director's frustrations hehhe..... But we bought and got to perform "Whiplash" 🙂
Andrew and Fletcher had the same goal - greatness. The methods to reach that goal are unimportant to them because they are artists first and humans second. Their morality is different than the morality of say Andrew's father who watches in horror from the sidelines. If Andrew had left with his father, what future would be waiting for him on the outside? Certainly no one would be talking about him at dinner parties.
I absolutely love these actor and movie breakdowns you do. They are amazing. I have watched every video on your channel, several more than once. Keep them coming!
I know people say that neiman will devolve into drugs and alcohol... eventually die young... but... he gave up the potential for regular sex to focus on his craft... it's possible he'll spend his time trying to find the next barrier to break through... and at that point where there are no more mountains to climb, he'll go nuts and drink and drug himself to death... but... I gotta give him 20 years before he reaches that conclusion.
Whiplash isn’t an “overlooked gem” lmao, it’s one of the most talked about movies of JK Simmons and Miles Teller. there’s countless video essays on both Whiplash and Black Swan
@@BadGirlTayTayNow I think overlooked was a poor choice of words I think it doesn't get the notoriety it deserves. Many people (at least from my experience) aren't as familiar with the movie, compared your typical "blockbuster" movie.
WHEN FLETCHER ACTS PARENTAL AND EMPATHETIC TOWARDS HIS STUDENTS, IT IS ALMOST SEXUAL BUT SEXUALITY IN FLETCHER NEVER MATERIALIZES. THAT'S WHAT IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CHILLING AND BONE BREAKING. THIS PERFORMANCE IS BEYOND PAINFUL BUT ALSO IN ITS TURMOIL AND DESPERATION THE FILM BECOMES BEAUTIFUL.
JK SIMMONS PERFORMANCE WAS TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FABULOUS, BONE CHILLING AND FANTASTIC. I WAS AWE OF THE ROLE AND FOUND MYSELF REMEMBERING MY CHILD HOOD. THIS WAS MY MOTHER - SHE WAS JK SIMMONS EVERYDAY. SHE COULD HAVE TAUGHT HIM HOW TO BE EVEN MORE SINISTER THAN HE ALREADY WAS! GORGEOUS FILM, HARD TO WATCH!
I had a music theory professor in college that was pretty damn cruel. if you weren't 100% on point, he'd criticize individual students in class. Thankfully I have cast iron balls (in my mind lol) because the first time he insulted me I reminded him I am a superior guitar player and can play an instrument by picking it up. LOL I told him when he can be me, he can criticize. And my insults are better. He immediately made me his teacher's assistant and I took over teaching most classes. Let's just say the students preferred me to the prof.
imho, MIles Teller never was a leading man, nor will he be. He just doesn't have the presence. He may be a nice guy, but he comes across a little bit too self-aware in screen roles. Anyone in support could have stole the movie here, it's just he lucked out with the best person possible in Simmons.

J. K. Simmons is such a cool dude. I had no idea he was in the original short for this.
Miles Teller wanted to as well but was busy with the Divergent series when they filmed the short.
J. K. Simmons's perfomance is one of the best performances in cinema history

"I'm loyal to Viltrum. NOT THIS PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR AN ENSEMBLE BAND!"
It never even occurred to me that the ending was triumphant. I hated the ending. But I loved it for that reason.

I just watched this move for the first time yesterday, it's easily one of my top 5 favorite films.
Curious to hear the other four?
I'm from South Africa and ur videos make me like analyzing the actors performances
Bro I have found peace in ur videos
Keep it up my guy
@Renzy_YT Simmons killed it. To be serious, some teachers are, dejectedly, are like Fletcher in real life!
It’s ironic cause I have talked about his character a dinner table before

Miles Teller's acting was just not quite up to J.K Simmons's tempo

Another great video! Keep up the good job talking about interesting actors like this who don't enough people talk about
I'm glad Gordon Ramsay was included as a reference for the absolute monster that he is, and is allowed to be. Great recap! 👏
“PARKER, GET IN HERE !!”
Ngl, I’m more afraid to watch this film than any horror movie
I really liked J K Simmons performance in Counterpart series. I have to check this movie.
i love this movie, glad people still talk about it.
Been binging your videos you got some great stuff man
Great video. Very well made
3:35 neiman lidowaly says it’s not in da fwickin movie
Hey Ren, I wish you did a piece on Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
great video as always! please keep it up🥹
My rugby coach was just like J. K. in this movie. A father figure of the pitch, a drill Sargent on it
One of the best movies of the 21st century.
Tom Cruise - Collateral
Tom Cruise is great in that movie
This movie is an overlooked gem imo. Another one I would love to see you to break down is Warrior directed by Gavin O'Connor.

@@BadGirlTayTayNow now an overlooked gem would be Perfect Blue, but Aronofsky never even acknowledged Satoshi Kon's work which is weird as
Lol its routinely named one of the best movies of the past decade
This is similar to Gunny from full metal jacket. Very brutal and an egomaniac, which leads to rebellion and hatred in his corps

How cool would it be to just be inna elevator w jk Simmons
Man.... I love your videos. Love your work very much. Stay awesome and you will go far sir.
You need to talk about PSH in Charlie Wilsons War

JK SIMMONS DESERVED EVEY FILM AWARD ON THE PLANET!
He's not Kurt Russell in Miracle
He's Matt Damon in The House that Jack Built
It’s Matt Dillon, not Damon.
@@morellapoe2814 Man. I was even thinking Dillon as I typed Damon. The fuck is wrong with me?
Amazing movie

Fascinating. Tell us more.
I’m sure that happened
And then everyone started clapping

15:41 run time, not my tempo. 😖👋🏻
Dragging or rushing?
F your fragnance
They should have cast Tom Hanks
