The Symposium is, in fact, one of the greatest works of literature. But having followed the text you all should have noticed, that there is NO need for beeing δεινὸς λέγειν (great in speaking), but for ἀληθὴν λέγειν (speaking true) - and this is by far the least you could learn here. so cut it out and listen! (and have fun :P)
For all the people complaining about this guy's voice you haven't heard the worst of librivox recordings I tried to listen to Aristophane's Lysistrata from them and whenever a group of people start talking it turns into just a blob of noise and one of the women speaking is a guy talking in a really goofy falsetto. I'm fine with anything as long as I can understand it but that shit was nigh impossible
If you dont like this (entirely respectable) reading, Stop being a cheap bastard, buy the book and read it to yourself (I'd wager you admire the sounds of your own voices). The Reader has volunteered his time and effort so that we can have access to this text *for free*. The least you can do is be grateful.
51:49---53:12 what Love is 58:32 beginning of Agathon's speech 1:19:51ff He is a Spirit, a Mediator, in Him all things are bound together, prophets communicate from Him 1:04:38 the God who... 1:22:17 He has no house to dwell in
Also, He said, He who is something can not desire to be it.. How can he desire to be it if he's already it..This is the dumbest shit i've ever heard.. These people like i said have child like minds. If I desire to be strong. I would lift weights until i get strong.. now just because i am now strong, do that mean i will no longer desire to be it? No.. I ( and the millions of weight lifters who are strong as hell and still lift) will continue to Lift, because of the desire we still have to be strong and maintain this strength.. so, just because someone is something, it doesn't mean they can't desire to be it. so like i said Plato and all these Philosophers are fucking lunatics.
if you already saw yourself as a strong individual, logically explain how could you desire to be strong? people who think of themselves as weak can only desire to become strong. because strength is not yet achieved or perceived by them. you're just trying too hard to prove yourself. do you think people will respect your opinions if the only way you express them is through shitting on other peoples work who lived thousands of years ago?
You might really like Schopenhauer. He's the philosopher most known for making this argument - that the "will to" in a worldly sense is never satisfied, but perpetuates itself to its ultimate frustration.
What's up with your voice inflation it seems like you try to not read mono tone and for that I thank you but it seems like if there is a comma in the sentence you lose it and read through it like a 6th grade student
Wow! Why is everyone being so mean? Don't listen if you don't like it. Thats it. Be nice. Personally, I say thank you for putting this out there.
I don't get why people seem to be so upset about this recording. I think this guys way of reading is entertaining as hell.
To the people complaining please supply a link to your efforts

btw: Since i am not a native, I can't really judge wether it's pronounced well or badly. But again: it doesn't matter.

Thanks a lot. This helps me greatly to understand Socrates
Socrates begins to question Agathon at 1:09:44, personal note

These men laid the foundation for western thought. You even rely on the Socratic method to form your argument! Have some respect for these men.
EarthAngel_A.i. You even lift bro?!?!

Maybe you should try reading the children's book, everybody poop's. You may be able to comprehend it better.✌
