It's called a parking brake for a reason... use it whenever you park. A good habit to get into.

Everytime I hear these entitled family stories, I'm glad my family is different. I'm living on my own in another country, go back to visit every now and then and I also love it when my mom uses her vacation to visit me for a week... Also I have Amazon Prime, I used it to order something for my mom, but unlike in the last story here, she sends me the money I have to pay for her orders (and sometimes a bit more)

If you don't use your parking brake, the only thing keeping your car from rolling away is a piece of metal roughly 1 inch long and 1/4 of an inch wide and 1/16 of an inch thick resting on a cutout on a corresponding gear in your transmission. Do you really trust such a small piece of metal stopping your car from rolling away?

Exactly if op is ever found out about what they have done. They might be out of prison to see their grandchildren, or since we think this might be fiction where Karen finds out comes back, unalives op's family leaving op completely disable taking everything from op before unaliving herself.

That parking story was interesting. Parking on a hill does pose a problem. It it uphill or downhill? Is there a curb or curbless? Regardless, the parked car should not roll into traffic if the transmission or parking brake fails. The parking brake should be set after an automatic is put into park and before the foot is taken off the brake peddle. A manual transmission should be left in gear, and the parking brake set before the engine is shut off.
When parked on a hill, if the parking brake isn't set, it's possible to have transmission lock because of the weight of the car being forced against the gears in the transmission. Have fun if you ever experience transmission lock.

S1 There's a satisfying story of how a Qaren parks illegally in space reserved for builders. She refuses to move. Gets blocked by a huge delivery truck. Goes and gets her child in K. Builder's people refuse to oblige her as they are emptying the truck of supplies. Tries to climb the curb and escape but the car gets stuck. (1) License expired, (2) Car tags expired, (3) Insurance? (4) She endangered the child in the car when she jumped the curb, (5) Parking in a spot clearly marked as reserved. Her husband happily came to take possession of the child and successfully claimed custody over the child, (to be exercised jointly with HIS parents), in court!

13:00 Brake: It's called a PARKING brake for a xxxxxx reason. Some people put a manual in gear, some turn the wheel so the tire touches the curb, etc. I saw an ancient muni garbage truck being parked on top of the slope on a bridge near my home and the driver used 2 large stones to keep the truck in check. (Easier for him to put the truck in gear and start the vehicle on the slope.) LOL.
But why not use a PARKING brake to PARK the car? I have a 5 speed manual and use the PARKING brake AND put the car in 2nd before exiting the car. (When I am in a hurry, or getting irritated by venting from my wife/ Ds, I sometimes forget one or the other but as long as I do one of these things, the car stays where it should!)

The man in the second story was too vindictive, he ruined a life to say, see I can make your life a living hell. That is a little over the top. He should have taken her to court and had a judgment that she could not be 100 feet close to his property line, and any harassment from her would be delt with through his lawyer.

Parking with the tires touching the curb doesn't harm them unless you're being really stupid. The parking brake should still be used on the hill, but there's really no point in using it on flat terrain

There's a lot of things that factor into which way you should turn your tire and whether or not to use your parking brake some of the things that factor into this is whether your car is a automatic or manual how high your car sits off the ground relative to the curb whether you plan to park uphill or downhill and the current season
And there's nothing wrong with leaving your car tire pressed against a curb as long as it's not over an extended time talking months and years not days and weeks
I'm guessing this woman lives in a big city that's never seen a studded snow tire a day in her life and would probably freak out if she ever did
