Ok. The Maltese Falcon ain't too shabby either. Honorable mention: The Asphalt Jungle. But favorites (mine) just as cited by Gordon: The Treasure of Sierra Madre and The Man Who Would Be King.
Moulin Rouge! Well chosen, Mr Plomley. Interesting to hear Huston say you could make a better movie about Toulouse-Lautrec in the 70s nthan he did 20 years earlier. In some of his last films (like Wise Blood) he seems totally liberated
Good call. Great film, wonderful cinematography and Jose Ferrer! Even given the restraints of the production code, which Huston alludes to, it's still epic.
Judge Roy Bean was also a racist. Instead of condemning a man who killed a Chinese worker, Bean declared the man was Chinese and therefore "not a human being". He also destroyed a competing store owned by Jewish merchant, with impunity.
"Most people, Mr. Gittes, never realize that at the right time and in the right place, they're capable of anything."-----Noel Cross
Superb. Thank you for posting!!
Huston is one of the few and true geniuses of the "Renaissance type." One of my favorite writers and directors.....
This guys voice inspired the voice of Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood
What a beautiful voice.
if god has a voice ,this what it would sound
Treasure of Sierra Madre is one of the great films. Magnificent. The Man Who Would Be King is brilliant too.
Fat City. Night of the Iguana.

Moby Dick
The one and only!

John Huston......LEGEND....R.I.P.
Magnifico
If you wanted to describe a Man to an alien, you couldn’t go far wrong with John Huston.
I've always wanted to hear him talk about his experience of being directed by Polanski for Chinatown. Shame this interview pre-dates it.

Old school snappy answers. About no-one earning too much money - what would he say now? ;)
The Mackintosh man was filmed in Irelands
7:43 Is that a cigarette lighter? (Thought Huston was a cigar man.)
Are you a private detective?
@@claraboomday Yes, I search the internet for clues.
