- An ideal city fringe location and charming corner site were design drawcards for an architectural extension by Melbourne practice Templeton Architecture.
Rewriting the narrative for an original Victorian worker’s cottage in South Melbourne enabled architect Emma Templeton and her team to make more from less, and craft a home that has evolved to accommodate the family of three that lives there.
Home to fashion designer Penelope Loorham (of Australian label Perri Cutten), her partner, their teenage son, and British short-hair cat Luna from which the project takes its name, the residence builds a beautiful synergy between architecture and European style with the help of a warm and robust material palette.
As part of our ‘Design Deconstructed’ film series, we take an exclusive look at the Luna Residence. Emma unveils the newly expansive design resolve and how the modest urban footprint was maximised to envelop a sense of calm and escape.

Speaks volumes when designer embodies great design -- their style adds to the organic flow of the space.
The team at Templeton Architecture have instilled a beautiful feeling of tranquility and refuge within this urban home. I love how the timber chevron flooring seamlessly connects the old with the new to create a warm and welcoming foundation throughout the house.
Always timeless Chevron flooring, providing a sense of warmth and continuity between the old and new. Stay tuned, team estliving.com
Design collaboration at its finest. The film captures how Templeton Architecture have envisioned a serene extension that's respectful of the home's context. So lovely to listen to Emma speak about their approach to materiality in particular.
Emma is such a talent, always a privilege talking with Emma X
I was captivated by this Luna Residence video-a stunning cottage tastefully transformed. The seamless blend of warm flooring maintains a comfortable atmosphere, and the decision to name the home after their cat adds a charming touch. Kudos to Emma Templeton and her team for this artful integration of design and comfort. Looking forward to more inspiring projects, est living!

Wow, this South Melbourne residence for fashion designer Penelope Loorham seamlessly captures the synergy between architecture and fashion! Absolutely love the minimalist elegance of Penelope's Perri Cutten label and the harmonious collaboration between these two creative realms. Great video.

Such a beautifully designed heritage cottage. The chevron timber flooring really helps to create an elegant, warm and harmonious space.
Thank you very much!
The marble is a perfect combination of the brass Tapware and the beautiful, soft linen whites you have throughout the house. 🎉

Elegant and timeless design by Emma Templeton. Stay tuned, team est living
Closed but bright
Internal courtyards and steel window framing create beautiful light.
The interior design is a little minimalist for me personally (but that's ok because no one is offering to give me the building 😅) but thr architecture is perfect 👌👏
Thanks for sharing!
Generic open plan living, dining, kitchen combo plus the courtyard,on a loop. Wanted to see the rooms off the entrance hall and upstairs. They couldn't have been blander than what we saw so why not show the whole house? Was it not finished? It did look a tad unlived in 🤔
boring
Having lived in this area and understanding the land sizes this is an exceptional home. Beautifully designed, clever connection to the outdoors through the floor plan and courtyards. 🤍
Our pleasure!
