VERY IMPORTANT. Hi Jag, I watched a video from a homesteader today. It was about herbicides hidden in manure n hay. Her tomato plants became disfigured and had to be thrown away. Well, she came to the conclusion it was from hay and manure she got from farms where herbicides were used, which make up most of her soil content. I only started composting two yrs ago and it happened to me for the first time last summer with some of my tomato plants. Ya see, I compost my guinea pig’s soiled bedding made from wood shavings. The problem is I feed him bagged timothy/orchard hay n pellets made from hay, so I figure the herbicide is in his droppings. (Feeling awful about that). It got me thinking about bagged manure too. So we are busting our butts trying to grow organically, only to find out our most precious soil is getting contaminated with herbicide from outside sources we brought in. I hope you will look into this and maybe do a video on it. It’s so important. And we need to get the word out. 😕
I've heard many organic veggies are higher in lead and other toxins because to replace synthetic fertilizers, the compost is considered "natural," yet the final product is higher in metals than non-organic! Really made me think when I go to buy organic potting soil.
I’ve been secretly adding my parents coffee grounds to our plants😆, so I’m glad to know I should be doing that lol. I’ve also saved my egg shells for my homemade dog food but I think I’ll just ground them up and add them to my plants as well, thank you for the tips!
I use egg shells grind up in coffee grinder but buy the eggs that are farm or pasture raised also the coffee grinds mat have pesticides sprayed on the plants I know A lot of tea around the world sprays crops
+Daisy Creek Farms with Jag SinghI'm not sure but ,if anyone else is searching for organic vegetable fertilizer options try Proutklarton Organic Tips Plan (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now )? It is an awesome exclusive product for building your own proven aquaponics system without the headache. I've heard some super things about it and my neighbor got excellent success with it.
Thank you for this info. I had never heard of compost tea before. Considering how often we have to cut our grass (and how much we have to cut), this is gonna work great. Also, we drink a lot of coffee and eat a lot of eggs. Putting waste to good use. Again, thanks for the info.
I use all but the coffee grounds, because, they repell frogs and toads which control my garden pests. I virtually have no garden pests because I have a frog bog, plenty of garden toads and I feed birds which keep down pests. So, no coffee grounds for my garden, but, I use the rest of your sound advice.
Jennifer, whoa how interesting! Thanks. I have toads and many tree frogs. I suppose the green ones I see in my garden sometimes must be tree frogs. I do use aged grounds mixed in, so am now happy the amphibs are still frequenting my garden. For years during season, I have scattered fresh grounds and filters directly around plants, and glad I still note Toad hanging around. I also use pulled clover around plants, and eggshells occasionally trenched in with coffee grounds, along with leaves, during the off season.
I hear "Hello Everyone, this is Jag," and I immediately want to like the video. I've watched quite a few of your videos, and implement quite a lot of what you share in my gardening. I love your smiling, no nonsense approach, with the scientific explanations. I watch a lot of great gardening videos, but you're my favorite. (Shhh, don't tell the others!)
I remember my great-grandmother using coffee grounds and eggshells on her hydrangea flowers. She said that they would make the flowers be different colors.
I dumped a pile of grass clippings next to my hydrangea n forgot about it, but left them there bc they got so wet n partially decomposed. Turns out, the side with grass had pink blooms, while the other side was more blue. It was a happy accident.
Very useful info Jag. Love your mention of the natural way of life you endorse. It is a growing momentum, despite the corporate chemical manufactures pushing their product.
Nice Video clip! Apologies for the intrusion, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you tried - Parlandealey Impetigo Goodbye Process (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a smashing one off guide for finding some amazing landscaping designs for your home without the normal expense. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my GF after many years got cool success with it.
Great Video! Excuse me for chiming in, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you researched - Parlandealey Impetigo Goodbye Process (do a google search)? It is a good one of a kind product for finding some amazing landscaping designs for your home minus the hard work. Ive heard some super things about it and my cousin after many years got astronomical results with it.

Thanks for sharing, this is quite helpful. It would be more convenient if you can post a video on bonemeal and bloodmeal as to how are they used and what's their use as they are from a low cost industry and cheap to get. Also something on sea weed and it's exact use.
Enjoy all you videos, particularly this one. I’ve got a small 'postage stamp sized' urban garden in the U.K. I like you also have agricultural roots, my family have a farm in Bihar. I too try an be as organic and do follow many of the tips suggested, you forgot to mention tea/teabag, I save all mine and put them on my ericaceous plants, camellias, hydrangeas, rhododendrons and blueberry. I also save onion skins and make a liquid fertiliser, particularly liked by my roses. Thanks for all your very informative and enjoyable videos, happy gardening.
Thank you for such an informative video. I have been researching egg shells for a while and they all seem to recommend either boiling or heating in the oven before grinding into a fine powder to eliminate risk of salmonella. So is that the right way or can we add egg shells directly without these steps? Thanks
I know cow manure is the best. I put some cow manure around a lemon tree a have in my yard, man a month later the lemons where growing to the size of grape fruits even bigger I was amazed! Cow manure is the best fertilizer you can Use
IAM from India. Recently started vegetable garden on my terrace. Felt very happy seeing plants germinated growing. it's monsoon time. Fruit flies have become big headache for me. Tried neam oil, garlic but they are not leaving my garden. Even in heavy rain I find them in garden drenching flies in rain. Due to heavy rain continuously not able to spray anything. Kindly advise what should I do get rid of fruit flies and save my garden. Thanks.
All useful info other than coffee ground. I don't think he has actually used coffee ground as fertilizer before. It takes a loooong time for the ground to break down and be useful for plants. Caffeine can inhibit growth. Ive been experimenting with coffee ground. Best used as a compost. Anaerobic in a bag may speed up the process.
Hello. I like ur videos and learned a lot too. I am gardening for the first time and I planted tomatoes. Got cow dung for compost and I have observed that after I put the compost in the soil, I started seeing slugs. There were too are slugs now. My husband doubts that slugs came after we put cow manure. Does cow Manure lead to slugs?
Careful with cow manure from local ranchers. A few years ago a picked some up from a friend that has a farm and used it...... yes everything worked great except for I ended up picking up a ton of weeds from the manure. It’s best to buy it in bags it needs to be “hot composted” first.
Really helpful video .Can you tell us how to use compost which is given free by our city waste management ?When I used it it burnt my plant .Any idea .
Hud Nad yes because it is the hot compost .If compost is nit decompose fully then it cab butn the plant .You have to mix it with soil abd keep for 15days then use it for planting .
Be careful using the cow and horse manure do to the farmers herbicide used in the field/crop. You forgot to mention rabbit manure. Since it can be placed directly in the crops and doesnt have to be aged or mature. Thanks for sharing
The Naked Gardener here some good info on it. It does not smell very much if any. It’s self contained in dry round balls mostly. Enjoy the read and I never had a problem as it doesn’t burn. www.gardeningknowhow.com/composting/manures/goat-manure-fertilizer.htm
awesome video once again jag, i've got a question i've got a ''garden'' that's more like dirt and apparently i've got no earth worms how do i attract them?thanks in advance
Off the video subject, butt going to try your methods of using Hydrogen Peroxide in my garden. It's 90 degree's and sunny at my location right now, is it best to apply these method's in low light condition's to prevent any burning of my plants?
Pls can you put the following ingredients together as organic manure?cow dung, egg shells, chicken droppings and ash.how is it done and how many kg can you apply to an arch?
I have a question my cantaloupes leafs have black bugs all over what should I do there in a garden of other plants I have and I'm getting nervous I want to dig them up and move them or get rid of them help please asap
Thank you for information video. Hi, can I make fertilizer (liquid or powder form) from Sunn Hemp Sesbania & Gliricidia leaves which are use as green manure. Some of the plants are native to India. I am into organic fertilizer making. Planning to making high concentration - pure extract of the leaves for further use. Please update Awaiting Reply
Hello mates ! 🐨🐨🐨🐨🐨thank you you so much for posting this video it really helped me because we got this work for science in google classroom and by the way my name is Mckayla🇨🇰🇨🇰🇨🇰🇨🇰🇨🇰🇨🇰🇨🇰🇨🇰🇨🇰
It's not "necessary".... It just happens to be cheap and it works. There are plenty of organic soil supplements ranging from afalfa meal, canola meal, rock dust, oyster shells, rock phosphate, seaweed, grass clippings etc. Lots to choose from! I'd never use an animal excrement based fertilizer on my vegetables.. No way!
I work at a dairy and we don’t like it when people ask for manure! We don’t have time to supervise people and some people can’t be trusted to close gates back properly etc. just buy it from a garden store please, and just stick to milk at your dairy.😂

So lucky! I have a few tree frogs here, and they do their part... But not nearly enough. I love amphibians!

Yes, I believe the acid in the grounds turn Hydrangeas blue
That is coffee and egg shells more acidic for the soil which is good for blueberries
that's so adorable ahah

Hi, I am moving to Las Vegas soon. I was wondering if you can do a video on indoor stuff I can grow and out door.

Chicken manure better then steer or cow manure because less weed transfers.

Hello, the cow manure that i added to my soil became hard. Instead of making my soil loose (like compost), the soil became compact. Any idea why?

Anyone got any idea about using rabbit droppings to fertilise your vegetables?
If manure is necessary as fertilizers, what would happen if most people would go vegan?
