If you want to hear and see the real thing, go check on youtube "Ion Dragoi" - the original romanian folklorist. Nevertheless, Taraf of haiduks's interpretaition is marvelous.

The same thing applies for other great musicians that this country had. Toni Iordache, Zamfir, Ion Voicu, Grigoras Dinicu, Fanica Luca, which with all respect. I regard all of them greater and more talented musicians than western musicians like Abba, Ace of Base, The Beatles, L.Zeppelin, Rollin Stones etc.
I believe those are a few of those dudes from the Romanian scene in the movie Latcho Drom. Tony Gatlif really called on the best of the genre to take parts in the movie, but I must admit that music taken out of context of the simple folk gathering or celebration doesn't work quite as well.
It´s not within the notion of music that they´re better than Led Zeppelin and the Beatles, it´s within the spiritual adaptation which they manage greatly to convey into music. Something that The Beatles never really could. I mean Songs like "Hey Jude" Yellow Submarine or Here´s comes the Son, dosen´t even comes close to the the greatness of Taraf De Haidouks.
