I love Biochemistry, it's my life. I don't mind if I have to wait long hours or repeat experiments and to be honest those are the attributes a true scientist should possess. There is no option on whether to study Biochemistry or not because without it no one would understand what happens in living systems. That is say medicine whether human or animal, production of drugs, cosmetics and what have you wouldn't make much sense. Also, there products that are not directly administered to the body yet, there effects on the body can only be explained by biochemical methods. So, a 100 and more reasons to study Biochemistry. Oh! Also show some respect for biochemists that have laboured to come up with your everyday products and drugs also.
I just think the same as you. I like to study, is not a problem for me work and doing a MSc, i really want to have a job that provides me do something to help in that field of sciences.
Its incredibly helpful to have someone explain the cons of this major specifically. I don't have problems with learning by heart or patience, but I just get scared that what if I can't handle it etc etc. But that's another reason I want a tough major, need to face this fear. I know I can do it, just need more guts ig.
Its ab absolutely doable major, and you are surrounded by people with the same fears and doubts and you go with them through the more difficult times. Dont worry about it, if you want it, go for it!
This is strange. Becuase if you do not want. 1. Learn things. 2. Do the lab to know the trade. 3. Cannot accept failure. 4. Do not want learn complex things. 5. Study for long years to get Msc or Phd I do not know what you will be good for? Try baseball.. I does not require much of the above.
I'm a bit confused. I've spent this week trying to find the best possible course for me when I go to college and I'm still in Grade 11. I want to choose BioChemistry after watching your video. I'll try to learn more about BioChemistry to see if it is worth it or very cool.
Thank you for your comment. Try to look for some videos which show you how a lab looks like and what your tasks more or less will be. Of course there are many possibilities after the degree but mostly you land in the lab. Maybe that will help with your decision 👍
i have a friend from a wealthy family. He was set to take over the family business one day. His family taught him the ins and outs of finance and running the business. He eventually decided to study biochemistry. Why? Not because of potential job prospects but because he was simply fascinated by it. most people i know in stem feilds don't share his level of enthusiasm for the sciences.
This video made me want to study biochem even more lol. I really love lab works and studying. The only problem is that there are no schools that teaches biochem in my location 😭😭😭 i think I really need to move
Appreciate your honesty, it really helps to hear other perspectives as well😅 Did you ever consider any other courses similar to biochem, like biomedical sciences?
Hey Ana, thanks a lot! Yeah I thought about e.g. biomedicine as well but unfortuantely I was not taken by those universities who offered it. But if I would have been taken, I think I would have gone for biomedicine 😄
thanks for the video its really informative im actually majoring in chemistry soon! was trying to learn about the different branches of chemistry and trying to figure out what ill like lol mostly by reading and watching vids but currently i find organic chemistry especially synthetic organic chemistry and biochemistry the most interesting! but i don't know didn't start yet but pretty soon 😅
Good day, what advice would you give someone who is weak in chemistry, but still wants to study Biochemistry? I am also not that good at Maths and Physics, and I'm scared of failing.
If u are scared of failing u have to think if science in general is smth for you, cuz u fail basically all the time, it never functions in the first try. Biochemistry I would advice u cuz u can specialize yourself later into medicial subjects. Biomed is also interessting check that out. Maybe biotech as well. Greetings Viktor
Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks I will go to college after 2 years but I prefer to know more about different fields that I would like to study and I think biochemistry is one of them...
I am a physicist and I hate biochemistry (I had to work in this field for a while). The mostly painful for me, as a physicist, is that there is not much logic behind biochemistry (learning 'by heart') and hardly repeatable experiments.
Thank you for this video! I was planning on studying biochemistry as its pretty much combining two of my favorite subjects in one almost, but now i just feel iffy... I'm not sure if i can get a job even
I studied biochemistry and I love it so much , it's so beautiful Now I'm a 25 years old forensic analyst in the DNA department, biochemistry gives you so many options, Good luck 👍🏻❤
I'm not enjoying chemistry in biochemistry. Biochemistry is interesting but now I'm confused. I love biology but i don't like microorganisms much. I have a option to switch my major from Biochemistry to microbiology. I'm not sure if i should change it.
@@LilyMendoza19Hello. i changed my major. Now I'm studying microbiology which is a biology related subject. I used to major in biochemistry. It was interesting but hard for me since I'm not that good at chemistry. I was confused to change my major so i asked here.

Yes but if you actually make it in biochem then it’s very rewarding, anyone can graduate in anything, it’s actually going deeper and making it in that field which makes it worth while and Impressive

haha I am certainly struggling with all the enzymes. It is just hard to understand what is actually going on. This is my first semester in the field, and still unsure if I wanna pursue a phd after I grad in biochem or go to med school. Dad says become a doctor like myself, I say, "I wanna go to chicago and get a PhD." However, I also want to get a good salary eventually, but am I going to become a brilliant biochemist even after struggling with the names of the enzymes? haha
You forgot the most important fact about the industry : Erooms Law... or in other words. the terminal decline of this industry as research costs continue to double every 9 years and productivity of researchers continues to decline. The future for scientist looks very bleak especially since most of the world is aging. As the USA and UK population ages they usually spend less and are less likely to invest their retirement savings into risky businesses like sciences.
tbh, biochemistry is like baby Organic Chem 2. I got an A on my first exam with only 2days worth of studying. 😂, but I still have exam 2 and final, and I have to put more effort this time to get an A.

If you’re interested in biochem I dare say many of the things he speaks about in this video are not accurate and could be linked to his poor fit to this field. Go for it!
