The thing is, they were too good for the Music Industry, the industry wanted meaningless , useless music ,but musically they were big, we love them, they are our brothers.
Was sitting on the piano yesterday at Maseru Club, and Ntate Mapefane came through with his sax. My chords were a bit rusty as he guided me, and jammed on this song! Bliss! Frankly, the club buzzed with such appreciation of Frank as if he was in the room. Legends really do not die!
Sankomota My all time fav group❤️ we will never have another Sankomota! Led by the musical genius the ever greatest Frank Mooki Leepa May his soul Rest In Peace! These legends are less celebrated, it pains me when our local Radio stations play American music while we as Africans have the best music for the soul, the music that heals, Sankomota is everything, Sankomota is life.
I've been looking for this album for 23 years since I left Jo'burg in 1996. So it's great to hear this song from that album again! I still haven't found a copy of 'After the Storm'. Somebody please reissue it. I saw Sankomota in Hackney, London in 1988 or 1989. They were great! But that tour was not properly promoted and not many people had the privilege of seeing Sankomota in full flow. I've forgotten the name of the guitarist who played the guitar solo on 'Afrika'. He was quite well known in music circles in South Africa. Can anyone remind me please. Frank Mooki Leepa; genius and serious artiste.
In the land of geniuses and musical greats, we're still bombarded with European second best music on our local radios and televisions with no attempt whatsoever of honoring and celebrating these sons and daughters of the soil who contributed so much to the healing of our soul in music. In this controlled platforms of media productions, African greats are less celebrated, Frank Moki Leepa belongs in the hall of fame, this song speaks to the past, present and the future, ahead of its time. Releboga legala le bra Frank, in my golden list this track belongs..
@@vlermuis2416 if the shoe fits, proudly wear it. When a spear is thrown, you chose not where it falls. To whom it fell on, the cry we shall hear. I want to believe that in the great Swiss, there are musical greats that you and your children's children would love to see preserved for generations and generations. That should not be compromised by playing anything less than the quality it gives to the people. So is my land, we have the best beat that should not be contaminated by European second best music, I repeat.....greetings from Azania aka South Africa
There is a live video of Sankomota performing in Mafikeng that used to play on BOP Tv. Anyone with an idea as to how we can lay our hands on that recording.
Letsatsi Pheane LoL, that would be a dream come true, been looking for that album for years including Frankly speaking , coz I have 4 Sankomota albums and I’m missing only two, and they are not available anywhere, last time I placed an order in Italy, but later they told be it’s no longer available.
