That's one of the greatest pieces of footage in wrestling history! FUN FACT: This was all off the cuff. Lethal approached Flair to talk about it, and Flair just said, "I don't talk about promos. See you out there."
Yeah the boys talk about this all the time. I mentioned it to lethal once cause it was in my head and he had me dying laughing. Shit was awesome. Piece of Art.
@K Johnson (Shamonda) He did a great job, because the camera never showed him break character. This was by far the funniest things I've seen in wrestling. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Rick was laughing. Lethal said in a podcast when Rick said “oldest ride, longest line” that he didn’t know what to say because it was sooo good. Those guys were having fun for real. Lethal macho man is just as good.
Yes, (on camera) Kevin Nash gave Lethal the idea to adopt the "Black Machismo" impression of Randy Savage for his character, and Lethal ran with it. Excellent Macho Man impression as well. But this bit here with Flair takes the cake.
The people in the stands there had no clue they were witnessing one of the best promos ever cut. Pure gold. I laughed so hard it hurt the first time I saw this.
@STNeish (Shamonda) Besides the personalities of the wrestlers... the commentators are what made the matches better! Thanks for watching and commenting. We appreciate you! 💚
Taz also (rightly) lost his mind, and made his own mark in here, but it is actually "The Living Legend" Mike Tennay who says "This is the damnedest thing I've ever seen!" One of my favorite commentary pairings, on one of the greatest things I've ever seen in wrestling - ! Let us all "WOO! WOO!! ...WOO!!!"
One of the great classic moments in professional wrestling! Jay Lethal & "Nature Boy" Ric Flair! "Wooooo!" " Wooooo!" "That's my line!" "That's my line!" That's gold!
This is the greatest segment in TNA/Impact history. I love the end call by Taz which almost gets overlooked because by that time your either laughing or so focused you kind of miss hearing it. But Flair says, "That's my line" and then Lethal and him go back and forth while Taz says, "What's Flair's deal, he's stole about 10 of Flair's lines." It's not so much what Taz says, but the way he says it comes of to me as "You finally caught on that he's impersonating you." It's so minor but it really helps solidify the entire segment and give Lethal that extra little something as the segment ends that establishes him as the babyface who just outsmarted the legendary and seasoned veteran Ric Flair. Ric Flair has had a couple podcasts over the years and in one of the early versions he had Lethal on and they obviously talked about this segment. This was essentially done with no prep work and as a result I think that's what makes it so great. None of this feels forced. They are just playing off of each other and as a result topping each other so it only gets better as the promo continues. Also of note, Lethal thanked Flair because what nobody had known at the time until then was the match this lead to was originally supposed to be Flair beating Lethal and Flair told TNA management they had a star in Lethal and it was a mistake not to be putting him over. So Flair got the finished changed and did the honors for Lethal. Flair told Lethal he was happy to do it and it was the only thing that made sense to him so they could get Lethal to the next level.
This was epic. How WWE didn't try to sign Jay Lethal as soon as they could boggles my mind. And AEW is dropping the ball on him. He should have immediately starting racking up wins and appear regularly on Dynamite.
I agree with what you said on WWE not signing Lethal but it seems that AEW has had plans for Lethal for a while. The thing with AEW is that sometimes it takes a long time for everything to come together. All of Lethal's loses was building to his current storyline.
I'm sorry but Jay lethal makes a better comedian then wrestler. When he was just being himself there's really nothing that stands out. He has to imitate other wrestlers to get over.
@John Pitts ii (Shamonda) Sadly, I never heard of him before this video. I think by this time, I had stopped watching wrestling on a regular basis. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Lol, this promo never ever gets old, and never will. Jay Lethal has amazing voice impersonation skills; his Macho Man is just as great. BTW this reaction is always my come back too to re-watch this!
Hands down, the funniest segment in pro wrestling history. Absolutely legendary!!! You can tell Flair was trying so hard to stay in character and was genuinely surprised at how spot on Jay Lethal's impression was
You can tell jay grew up spending hours watching and imitating ric growing up lol him and macho man. Hast be the most insanely accurate flair impression ever. And they put together one most entertaining segments in wrestling history😂
Love the reaction, one was laughing with the reflection of nostalgia on what the moment meant while one was shocked and amazed by what was unfolding and getting into it. Best reaction channel in my opinion.
I've been a fan since 5th grade back in 83. Grew up with Flair in his prime. Seen a lot of good stuff, but this is top notch. They had another good one together too
I remember Lethal telling a story about how Ric would bring people backstage and have him do the impersonation, then walk away and say "kid does me better than I do it myself!"🫡😂
I'm not exaggerating to say that, without a doubt, that was the greatest impression that there has ever been. Jay absolutely NAILED it. Everything. Close your eyes...you can't tell.
Not only was that made on spot, but the last line or 2 Ric was so speechless all he could say was wow. If Ric is trying to come up with something then you know you did right. Improv at its best.
Lets face it Ric Flair took that gimmick from the dudes in the seventies down south so it was fitting a Black man in the form of Jay Lethal did a brilliant impression of him but with the swag of the culture. s hedid with Macho Man's gimmick which also inspired by american black culture. What was great ws the back and forth that it ws like hearing dudes do the dozens back in the day. Great reaction.
*My Mom still has a picture of me and Jay Lethal from 2010 when we both had crazy hair (I wrestled for a lil while) and whenever Ring of Honor would come on in the Carolina's she would call me and say "your friend with the crazy hair is on tv*

@Ryan Richey (Shamonda) Are you serious? This was ahh-MAZING!!! Thanks for the nugget and thanks for watching!
This was also Jay Lethals first time with a live mic. All the other times he had a mic it was during a taping and they could edit it.
Yeah I heard them both say that in interviews since! Makes it that much more amazing!
Yeah the boys talk about this all the time. I mentioned it to lethal once cause it was in my head and he had me dying laughing. Shit was awesome. Piece of Art.
I agree I still remember watching that live.
You can tell that Ric was trying hard not to laugh and he and Jay were having too much fun.

I don't care how many times I see this: I am BLOWN AWAY every time by how insanely legit Lethal's imitation of Flair is. This clip is gold!
💚💚
I never realized what Ric Flair sounds like, until I heard it out of Jay Lethal's mouth. :D
Lethal owns the greatest Flair impression ever! I didnt think he could top his Savage impression, but son i was do damn wrong!
Whooo!
It was the best, thanks for watching along with us!
Ric Flair does a good Jay Lethal impersonation.
Her face was so great when she realized he was doing the entire promo as Flair

@PROFESSOR I.C. (Shamonda) This was one of the best clips that we have for Ric Flair yet! Thanks for watching and commenting!

That Impact segment was the most insane thing I've seen in a long time.
@Mr. Smith (Shamonda) This was a good one. Thanks for spending time with us.
I'm glad Ric Flair came out to deal with that impostor who was in the ring.

Jay Lethal doing Randy Savage the black machismo is hilarious too.

@@Lunzatis_Palemoon no it isnt, stop with this stupid storyline stuff. They dont have any plans for him and thats it
As good as this promo was, along with his run as Black Machismo, I believe that Jay Lethal was best used when he was in Ring Of Honor.
I think it is better for Lethal in AEW because if he's in WWE in the VKM era, he might be doing comedy wrestling.
I'm sorry but Jay lethal makes a better comedian then wrestler. When he was just being himself there's really nothing that stands out. He has to imitate other wrestlers to get over.
