I've been using Freecad professionally (product development) for 5 ish years. Its got analysis. I use it lots. Although for fluid dynamics you do need to integrate with open foam. Which requires a lot of CLI work. Fem is standard workbench though.
The learning curve was steep, but its gotten a lot better in the last few years. The documentation has gotten really excellent. I don't understand why people still saying its hard to learn. Would be happy to help with a few lesson. Should be able to get you up to pro level in a couple of hours. Once you understand 2-3 basic things, you'll be better with other cad programs too.

@@MongrelShark Why not make a video or two as a crash course, that can help many people get into Freecad. I'm also scared of Freecad and what funny is I mostly do my cad work in OpenSCAD and I'm used to writing 1k lines almost daily.

Glad you're back. Great video! The only thing I would have elaborated on was Fusion 360 and the 10 editable project limit. It's very quick and easy to change a project to read only or to change it back to editable. The limit is really just a minor inconvenience rather then a hard limit to the number of projects you have.

You are an inspiration to many out there man. Having a college degree is nice, but if you do not get one it does not mean you can't learn all the things you want, and build the stuff you love. The only thing you really need is self-motivation, and build a resistance to frustration, which you encounter sometimes a long the way.

so far my favorite part of freecad is the point-and-click constraints. the least favorite part is how the topology naming bug forces you to do things in a more tedious manner.
i can't imagine how text based cad like openscad will have the constraints. it seems you will have to do all the maths yourself.
i generally avoid anything that is web based as these companies can easily change or discontinue anything and then you're screwed. just as you mentioned with fusion. no option to hold on to an older less greedy version.
ever tried design spark mechanical? it runs on a desktop, so that's a plus for me.

Honestly FreeCad is pretty nice but its not as intuitive as fusion I have tried switching but I haven't been able to do that because of the learning curve. Also apparently some people even use Blender for 3D printing as well but again it seems to have a pretty steep learning curve

Hey man! I’m just a backyard hobbyist who’s trying to design the layout and partial design of a fibreglass boat I’m restoring.. I’m neither using for monetary gain, converting anything to 3d printer, nor am i a student of any kind.. I really just want a program that i can use use to get a clear design on to paper so i have some dimensions, can see clearly where things are going to be placed and make sure its going to work when it comes time to building the actual thing. Could you recommend anything that sounds suitable for me? I tried to download fusion360 but had no luck.. I couldn’t find a free option. Any help’s greatly appreciated!

Of course hardware is nice, but the notion that software = free is always a good thing... open-source definitely is nice and usually developed for a long time. But, developers need a living as well, free stuff (and especially when it's not open-source) tends to be nice for a moment, after which it's abandoned. But, software does need a good price of course.
