    I found one on Facebook marketplace and paid $500. It has 100% battery life and is in like new condition. It was purchased new in December and still has the warranty until November 2024! I’m very happy with my purchase!

    Really appreciate your no-nonsense, practical approach to your review. There’s so many “reviews” out there that just repeat the same specs, benchmarks, and general talking points. You actually provided some new insights and the side-by-side comparison to the Asus was really helpful. I’ve been in the market for a new laptop for about 4 months now. I currently have an old Acer Aspire 5 from ~2018 and needless to say it’s time to upgrade. I generally prefer Windows to MacOS, and have been trying to find a Windows laptop that’s comparable to the M1 MBA in performance, battery, and price (they’re on sale for ~$749 again at the time of writing this). The only one I’ve found that comes close so far is the HP Pavilion Plus 14 with the Zen 4 Ryzen 7, but it still loses to the M1 MBA on price. 2024 should bring us more Windows laptops that are finally up to Apple levels of performance, power consumption, and battery life thanks to AMD’s Zen 4 processors and Intel’s Meteor Lake, but at the moment there aren’t many options on the market, and none that can be had for the price of a M1 MBA. Your review has persuaded me to bite the bullet and give the MacBook Air a shot, as the value proposition just seems unbeatable. I have a question though - you mentioned that you would look to purchase one refurbished for around $500-$600. I have the option of purchasing one new for $749 but completely tax free as I’ll be purchasing it at a military exchange. Do you think it’s still good value, new, at ~$750 flat?

    • @zircoben
      @zircoben  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks so much for checking out the video and for your feedback! I appreciate that. I definitely do seek out a different approach to these reviews and try to do more of a "market analysis" rather than a strict review of the same specs and screen size, etc that we just hear over and over again.
      I hope I'm not too late to chime in about the $749 MacBook Air. I can tell you've done your research! I totally agree about the Ryzen 7 7840U, so far, that is the closest that a Windows laptop has gotten to the efficiency of Apple Silicon, and it's a very impressive chip. I'm also a fan of the Pavillion Plus, and I've had my eye out for it (especially the variant with the OLED display) but at the end of the day, the hardware isn't on the same level as the MacBook Air. I mention it briefly in the review, but I don't love the more "wide" display on the Air compared to the "taller" display on most Windows laptops recently (and Macs, for that matter) that is the trend. It's a trend for a reason, that vertical screen real estate, and having 14" instead of the 13.3" really makes a difference.
      The Air at $749, without tax, is a great deal, and I would feel comfortable recommending it since the M3 MacBook Air supposedly coming this year will also likely bring a price hike - so for all intents and purposes, the M1 at $749 is a great deal. You can definitely find some for cheaper on eBay, but even I strike out sometimes on eBay and get bad machines. I feel more comfortable telling you to find one lightly used, and look for one that has a low cycle count on the battery for less than $600. They're out there if you look! That is if you are willing to let go of Windows and give the Mac a real shot - but resale values are so good for macbooks that you'd be able to resell it for not much less in a few months to a years time anyway. PCs are a different story on the resale market.

    hey was thinking about purchasing a macbook been a windows user for the past 10 years is the m1 chip still relevent considering the fact they are launching m3 pro m3 pro max and how is the performance of macbooks with m1 chips as compared to high end windows laptops

    • @zircoben
      @zircoben  7 месяцев назад +1

      I think you should go for the M1 if you can get one for cheap from the used market! If not, I would wait for the M3 MacBook Air coming next year. The m1 is still very relevant compared to mid range Windows laptops, but the fastest Windows laptops now do beat it out, albeit while using a LOT more electricity (and running hot and loud)

    • @zircoben
      @zircoben  4 месяца назад

      I see new display assemblies are about $180? Decent condition machines with okay screens are usually about $500, so I’d only consider a broken one for under $250; especially since I believe you lose the True Tone display tech!

    The main problem with MacBook Air M1. Is the silver or the spay grey the best color?

    • @zircoben
      @zircoben  7 месяцев назад

      I personally prefer silver. It's clean, and I love how if it scratches it looks the same color. It ages better if the computer will get wear.

      I recommend the Asus ZenBook. Its bigger display and more storage/RAM will come in handy, and I know you’ll enjoy the touchscreen, the display, and the overall performance of the machine. Just be warned of the machine running warm and the battery life not being nearly as good as the MacBook, and I think the ZenBook is the better bet.

      @@ShK_9090 The M2 is a nicer machine, it has a bigger display and the GPU is a good bit quicker. If you can go play with the two machines, you can choose for yourself! If I were in your shoes I'd probably honestly get the m2 MacBook Air, since I'm an apple fan, but the ZenBook does give you more for the money objectively!

    Sold mine two weeks ago for 700 euros, with 16 GB of RAM. Bought it year ago used for 800 euros.so for 100 euros I made about 30k of euros in one year.
    Great great value these Airs are when bought used. Just perfect.
    Went for M3 Pro 14" instead. Great machine no doubt but that value is far from the value of M1 Air. I highly recommend them to everybody asking me what first Mac they should get.

    • @zircoben

      MacBooks depreciate so nicely. Great business!! How have you liked the M3 Pro?

    • @ZhuJo99
      @ZhuJo99 5 месяцев назад

      @@zircoben I went for it and waited for custom configuration (36/1 TB) instead of getting base Max. Reason was 6 Efficiency cores which I appreciate much more as a Web developer than performance cores.
      Simply said, having many smaller light tasks requires more efficiency cores than performance ones which are aimed for high priority, highly computationally intensive tasks.
      So far that machine is great. Not so great is 96 W power adapter which is much heavier than 65 W one for Air. But solved that buying cheap Lenovo 68 W usb C for 25 euros. I measured power draw straight from wall and even under heavy load 14" M3 Pro doesn't take more than 60 W.
      And it's black :).
      I bought it for travelling because otherwise I'm connected to thunderbolt dock which has monitor connected to it, Acasis thunderbolt SSD case and the rest (mouse, keyboard, Harman Kardon sound sticks) etc.
      Really happy with this setup.
      And black, well it's nice but it shows every single dust particle. Not that much fingerprints, only on keyboard which has same "problem" on any Mac.
