This might be the clearest and most comprehensive limiting overview I've seen on youtube. Love the terrarium metaphor too!

15:00 I'm glad you mentioned TP, because many overlook, forget or don't even know what (negative) effect it has. I have seen many tutorials that have lost absolutely no syllable about it. People who have little experience with it then draw wrong conclusions.

Very informative. Thank you for going in depth of what the abilities a limiter has and what the different things can do. I will say that I really appreciate you going over the different limiters and explaining how they’re both the same for overall result just have different approaches. Super helpful in understanding. Thank you 👏🏻

Great explanation but I am a little CONFUSED. If I want to meet streaming service guidelines (14 LUFS -2db True Peak) How am I going to do that it you can not set the true peak level in Fabfilter L-2 and it will always limit to 0 db. Do I have to limit to -12 db and then after it is done and rendered lower the gain by 2 db? Doesn't seem like a good way to go to get the best quality

If you want to strictly abide by that standard, you can by enabling True Peak Limiting and then in the bottom right setting the output to -2dBTP.

@@EDMProd Did I just get a reply answering my question within a few minutes of asking my question? Wow! Not only did you answer my question (I have Fabfilter L-2 as a plugin for Logic Pro iPad and never noticed the output knob). Thanks so much for your excellent limiter discussion - You just got a new subscriber for life.
