Once I was in the car with my dad they was a bus and a lorry behind us and then this audi driver came up whne it was our right off way so my dad just tuck the keys out locked the car roles a cigarette and sat on the bonnet of his car till they moved
LOL. You made this aussie smile. I would have driven right up to the front of the car and stopped an inch from her bumper, then made a couple of unsuccessful attempts to reverse, and say to her the truck won't do it; it's not designed to go in reverse up still inclines. She would believe that being a woman. I'm curious to know whose responsibility it is to keep the foliage trimmed back on the edges of the road. I assume the local council.
Usually it's down to the farmers but they are not allowed to cut or trim hedgerows between 1st March and 31st August to protect nesting birds and their nests.
For a person to say "I know this road like the back of my hand, & she uses this road regularly". Well, that's the best reason why you & your little car should reverse back, & so use your expertise to do it safely. Obviously her road knowledge should help both of you.
Had this happen before, pretty much the same situation. I engaged the parking break, switched the engine off, and read my newspaper, they eventually get bored and just go back. Don't ever let them think they can get the better of you!
Lol at all the fools here saying the wagon shouldn't be on that road...why the hell not? How do you imagine farm goods get taken away from the farm? If you order a new septic tank or 20 tons of animal feed, it's not gonna fit in a Volvo estate you know. I've done my share on crappy little roads like that delivering to businesses in the middle of nowhere, do you imagine we enjoy threading vehicles that big down lanes designed for a horse and cart? We collect, we deliver, from anywhere to anywhere. Don't try and tell us our job when you clearly know nothing about it.

Couldn't have said it any better Owen👍 I diliver to places like that all the time, prob about 70% of my deliveries are down bloody lanes, and named houses and farms which don't come up on Google Maps. I love my job too, but it is extremely stressfull sometimes. Thankfully i haven't encountered anyone like that yet, i hope when i do i am as diplomatic lol. Have actually delivered to the same place, few weeks ago, but came from the other direction which wasn't so narrow.
+Robert Langford I didn't give way I come up with a plan to get the job done. She had to go to the rear of the truck just in case another car came, happy days I got the job done I turned around an opinion of a hostile driver so now she will be less likely to do it again and she has a better opinion of truckers that's not giving in mate.

Yep even if you meet a standard sprinter van in a car on road like this the car goes back if needed, simple logic, the person who can do it the easiest should do it for everyones benefit.
+Question Everything Even so, she doesn't know that. Saying "I'm paid by the hour" means he has nothing to lose by her sitting there and blocking the way, and he has everything to gain. Even as a bluff, it will give him the psychological upper hand, as she obviously has someone important to go.
You kept remarkably patient (and indeed the bigger man) in this situation. Reading a few of the comments on your vid, I get the impression that you stand out from the rest - even in your country. I commend and salute you, mate - I wish I could buy you a pint.
Yes he was, if i was driving then sorry my boss would give approval to ram her off the road, police would be on the Lorry drivers side , money cant buy these people brains sadly.
You handled the situation calmly and didn't lose your rag. I've been in very similar situations myself and in narrow lanes like that your mirrors get bent round and you can't see a damn thing, it's no use trying to explain because they've no idea what it's like driving a truck and her saying 'You can't drive' i reckon i'd have lost my temper and done a lot of swearing. Well done mate.
As an HGV driver this is my worst nightmare! There’s such limited rear visibility and so many blind spots, and dangerous if there was a car coming up close behind you. She’s being completely unreasonable; with good rear visibility, she ought to be aware of that, be a respectful driver and hang her head in shame for putting you in that position. Good on you for handling it like you did! I bet you had to take a breather after making that drop!
I know it's been said, but I'd have stayed there all day. If she had come up and asked politely or had been a decent human being about it, I might have considered backing up. What an entitled waste of air.
I once had a similar situation where i was driving a transit van with a towing a compressor. A driver turned right onto the lane I was half way along and expected me to reverse. After explaining that it was very difficult to reverse while towing over any great distance they still refused to move. I got out of the van, locked it and began walking off. The driver soon got the message and grudgingly reversed to 20 yards back into the passing point.
My Dad used to be an HGV driver when he was alive. He always said to me, "You can't argue with a lorry." He was right! Those huge vehicles terrify me (reason why is shown in one of my videos), despite having travelled in his cab from time to time when I was a kid. I drive a lot more now we've moved to the South West and oh boy these roads are narrow! I have been down the odd single track road like what you're driving on in this video and I really don't like them! Well, they'd be good if they were one way! Still, I'm mortified when I meet a lorry on them but I would never have done what she did. I would have reversed for sure and prayed that no-one would be behind me, least of all another lorry or even a tractor!
We encountered a similar problem during one of my HGV drivers licence lessons. This woman just stopped a few meters shy of our truck and threw her hands in the air like "what am I gonna do now" and gestured at us to reverse. So I - being super new to truck driving and not exactly looking forward to reverse on a narrow road that my instructor had specifically picked for its narrowness to show me how to navigate tight bends - looked at my instructor and went: "Oh god. I don't know if I can get back to that intersection half a mile back." And he just looked at me as if I just told him, I didn't know how to bring Elvis back and said: "Reverse? Are you mad? Her shoebox is a quarter our size. She'll be reversing." And what should I say.. It took half an hour to get her moving, but move she did :D
I don't drive HGV's yet but even now I can see what issues you guys have with other folk on the road. As it is I have more respect for you for this. Personally I would have driven back in my car, it wouldnt have taken moments.
Yeah tell her her delivery is going to take 1month to deliver as they have to break it down to fit it in the back of a car and it'll take 100 car trips to delivery. I bet she'd soon be ranting and raving about it.
dont understand why people have to be so egotistic, its hard to reverse a big truck back up a lane like that and easy to do in a car, i bet these people are the sort of poeple who look down on everyone around them
I would(and have) pulled forward to about a foot away from the car and stayed there, If the thick tarts can't reverse then they can't drive, Never back down mate I never have.
Situation handled very well by HGV driver. The arrogance of the car driver and passenger is surreal...... I would have let the woman attempt to back the HGV up and see how long she lasted. I feel sorry for her husband!
the vehicle coming down the hill has to give way unless its a public service vehicle lorries have no special right and there fore must obey the highway code
I’m sorry to say that this happened to me yesterday, and quite frankly I’m ashamed of myself for it. I’m a tipper driver and I met 3 cars down a narrow country lane. 2 of them reversed to let me pass, but the last one just sat there, and the idiot and his wife bullied me into reversing my truck, and I unfortunately let them. I should’ve said ‘I’m not moving’ and turned the engine off. I’m not letting that happen again.
They should back up for us pal....but instead of causing a scene and wasting police time you wers the bigger man and yoy got the Job done....don't be ashamed you won 🏆
@@fastasfox yeah, it just brought back bad memories. Last time I let someone bully me into reversing a truck, I ended up knocking over a parked motorbike.
When I brought my first sat nav I took it out for a test drive, had my then 5 year old daughter with me. It kept saying ' bear right ' , she looked round and said ' I can't see any bears daddy ' 😄
How bloody ridiculous! Awful woman. So if he cant reverse back down a very narrow country lane in a big hgv he cant drive ? Then she says these lanes are incredibly narrow and she in a small car with more visibility and wont reverse back ?????????????????? Who's the one that cant drive ? Poor man really feel for him .
Well done .. I live in lanes very similar .. I often meet hgv's artics horse boxes etc etc .. no one has right of way the only right thing is to be sensible .. this is a situation where size wins and the best route is for the more agile.vehicle to back up .. its clear strait away a rig ain't gonna be able to back up .. just reverse van or car out the way and u did a good deed and the HGV driver is generally happy that he/she can carry on ..
This is the only time I would say that HGVs can use their weight to their advantage. I drive a van, and fully loaded you still cant reverse up a hill like that. What I do is to drive closer to them and make them move
can someone explain why would she make the lorry reverse? surely its obvious that its easier for her to either reverse or turn even turn around to go a bit back and let the lorry past
I agree with you Paul. Also I'm just guessing you're Scottish by the wording in the comment? Please please be Scottish, lol. I'm Scottish so it's not a racist thing lol.
I would have switched it off, put the taco on POA and put the kettle on. NO WAY would I have reversed for anybody. If it were a man driving that car, it would have reversed pretty sharpish to the next opening and let the truck through (dangles the hook) :-)
Even as a woman I agree with you, however, not all woman are inconsiderate and incapable of reversing. I always reverse for lorries, trucks and vans they have no rear view windows. As a van driver I know how difficult it is, my boss would sit in the van, tell me to turn off the engine and get his paper out. If you can’t reverse ladies, or judge your car, get a bloody bike.
Patience of a saint mate, I would have backed up no bother, She seems unable and / or unwilling to back up a few yards to let the bigger vehicle through
Poor guy, we’ve had to go through these type of roads in a Renault Kangoo going to Thorpe St Peter and the amount of times we’ve nearly ended up in a ditch due to Range Rover drivers owning the road, yes Range Rover drivers, sorry 😐 Just saying. What a rude lady, like a previous commenter said they really should stop leaving the farm gates open for the cows to get out😂
What a nice man ...she would have had to spend the night in that VERY spot unless she backed up - cos I would not be the one moving. Beggars Belief !!!
Pretty impressed with the HGV driver. He could have done one of so many unprofessional things in this situation (we can all think of many!) but he somehow kept his calm and acted superbly. Hopefully his interaction with her improves her opinion of truck drivers now and she'll be more considerate in the future, and think about how much easier it is for her to just reverse the car instead.
Wish all lorry drivers were like you. This was a difficult situation that would have been better with a bit of give and take. You were the better man. She let herself down with the foul language and bad attitude. Kudos to you!
I sympathise with you, had a similar situation in my van, what they dont understand sometimes in narrow lanes, when both your mirrors are both brushing against hedgerows you have no visability behind you to reverse. They come hearing down the lanes ,then stop a foot away from the hedgerows and expect you to drive through all the undergrowth and hedgerows on your side of the road ,while they sit pretty, One time a Range Rover had a passing bay right behind him, but because it was a little bit muddy, refused to move back, so I just sat there, I dont have a reversing camera on my company van ,so if someone is parked directly behind me I cant see them in my mirrors if I was to reverse, unless they are a reasonable distance back.
My usual response to people like this is, "I'm getting paid to sit in this lorry, can you say the same?" at which point I turn off the ignition, stick the hazards on, pull a copy of the Highway Code out of my bag, put my feet up onto the dash and start reading. Usually does the trick. I drive a box and drag skelly btw. Really hard to reverse without jacking.
I could imagine you don't find yourself in this situation very often then in a w.n.d . Funny thing is this road is like the M1 compared to some farm lanes I have had to go to.
Oh gawsh, i say i live rynd here, I know this road well but i cant reverse. Snooty snotty woman. Even the posh people use 4 letter words. How unbecoming.
You have a false idea of posh, even royalty swear (trust me I've heard it!) and truly posh people would have the scruffiest old banger as well as the most expensive... but they would almost always be a British badge! (Yep, they're still afraid of "Johnny Foreigner")
“We’ll sit here forever” fine by me I’ve got a sleeper in here, got coffee and enough snap to last me all night. Even got Netflix to myself, when your ready give us a knock on window. That’s what I’d have said!
Without wishing to be patronising or sexist and with all due respect to ladies everywhere there are times of the month when some can be plagued by demons of irrationality, irritability and intolerance. I think you probably met one and you were a true gent.
well done you sir have lot more patients than me and I live in the countryside she's definitely one that's moved into the area most country people would reverse the fact she was swearing straight away would of got my back up!
fastasfox no I wouldn't say a daily basis I'm farming and contracting and do verge cutting for the local CC do come across a few on that job it's more annoying when they've just drove past a layby and expect you to reverse I've had to jump in there car and reverse it for them quite a few times because all they seem to do is reverse it straight into the verge!
Good on you for keeping your calm with her and being the better person. Her attitude was terrible, but I suppose that's your private school education for you, to be swearing like that as well for no reason and you where being civil enough. Glad you have her on camera and thousands of people have seen her acting like a moron, hopefully she has seen this herself and seen how she behaved and is embarrassed by it.
Sir, my compliments on your driving and your patience, Some of the English roads made me very nervous after being used to Aussie roads, and I have driven trucks and buses.
As a retired truck driver,I have come across this situation several times! My fix for this and it worked every time, was to keep a smile on your face as you put the handbrake on,then turn off the engine, put the tacho on break and most importantly, keep the smile going as you break out the sandwiches and thermos, relax with your feet up on the dash.I have seen these idiot drivers turn all shades of purple. Love it,Love it,Love it.
James Carter I know. If he had went to the right in the 1st place when his prat nav had said. It would have brought him to his destination from the other direction on that wide road where he ended up.
That was an intense showdown. LGV drivers always seem to be the more competent and patient ones. You'd think the tests were even more strict than car driving, and involve more experience. In my opinion, the opposing driver would probably struggle to reverse their car more than the LGV driver did.
When I encountered similar situations I used to inform the driver blocking my route that as my wing mirrors were not giving a clear view of anything behind me (which was generally true) I was not prepared to reverse my vehicle unaided.
so what would you have done if another car came behind her after you let her pass?? Reverse again?? Sorry but I'd have let her wait. Kettle on and feet up.
Michael Kennedy I get what your saying but I can only deal with what is in front of me and not the what if's so much and bottom line the daughter could not reverse and I needed to find a solution to that problem mate....cheers.
fastasfox oh aye don't get me wrong mate, you did the right, mature thing.. Its always better saying I'd do this and do that but in the situation i bet we'd all do the same, just I've had that same situation but not in an artic, i was actually driving a car with a trailer, couldn't see behind me so did not even attempt the reverse and they didn't want to help so i stayed and they eventually moved😂😂
The consolation is you only have to put up with her for a few minutes of your life... someone has to spend a lifetime with her...
Nobody’s spending a lifetime with that Karen
Could have apologized and ask her for a moment to assist by standing behind the truck then run over her by mistake 3 or 4 times.

EXACTLY !!! ALWAYS WHEN A WOMAN IS INVOLVED IT IS OF NO VALUE TO ARGUE WITH THEM. YOU TURN OFF THE MOTOR LOCK UP AND WALK AWAY.
Yeah, another solution. Stop the truck, go to the lorry, pick up the parcel, and walk with the box under the arm and say "I'll be back"
Dammit, farmers should keep their gates locked all these cows escaping

Then she says these lanes are incredibly narrow and she in a small car with more visibility and wont reverse back ?????????????????? Who's the one that cant drive ? Poor man really feel for him .
I'd have rang the police before I went backwards
This is when she finds out the driver is delivering her new gearbox so she can reverse
I'd have pissed myself laughing if the delivery was for her :D
If it was Patrick i would have unloaded it on her car lol
I thought you handled that really well, both the confrontation and the delivery, grate skill used on for both. John from sunny Devon UK.
John Patrick
Cheers John.
By the rules of the road, she's wrong.
Redmailnet how so?
This is all about being cooperative in traffic. Why the hell would any sane person force a HGV driver to reverse if you sit in a car. I do not get it!
Kvickstick he is closer to the nearest junction he should be the courteous one here!!
TheDriftdog I am well aware, I would reverse anyway as I said to help him out. Rare commodity these days.
The Highway Code says a smaller vehicle must give way to a bigger vehicle on a single track road. She was in the wrong end off
I would have kept dropping forward see how much she loves her car.
can someone explain why would she make the lorry reverse? surely its obvious that its easier for her to either reverse or turn even turn around to go a bit back and let the lorry past
+LV Self-entitlement
I agree with you Paul. Also I'm just guessing you're Scottish by the wording in the comment? Please please be Scottish, lol. I'm Scottish so it's not a racist thing lol.
Hahaha no mate i'm from Yorkshire
huge respect taking on this woman m8.
I would have switched it off, put the taco on POA and put the kettle on. NO WAY would I have reversed for anybody. If it were a man driving that car, it would have reversed pretty sharpish to the next opening and let the truck through (dangles the hook) :-)
Phil Bennett I needed to get the job done buddy no more no less so did what I had to.
She said if you can't reverse you can't drive so she can't drive
Patience of a saint mate, I would have backed up no bother, She seems unable and / or unwilling to back up a few yards to let the bigger vehicle through
Poor guy, we’ve had to go through these type of roads in a Renault Kangoo going to Thorpe St Peter and the amount of times we’ve nearly ended up in a ditch due to Range Rover drivers owning the road, yes Range Rover drivers, sorry 😐 Just saying. What a rude lady, like a previous commenter said they really should stop leaving the farm gates open for the cows to get out😂
This happened to me at bottle hole near Whitby whilst driving a coach. Hand brake on. Feet up.
If it had been me the saucy cow said can't drive, she'd still be there.
Saucy lol
Can’t believe he actually reversed the HGV around blind corners
There was no bend.....and the woman (the drivers mother) went behind to stop traffic.
What a nice man ...she would have had to spend the night in that VERY spot unless she backed up - cos I would not be the one moving. Beggars Belief !!!
You done that very well down that country lane I done a delivery in 7.5 ton lorry very tricky for me but done it well
Pretty impressed with the HGV driver.
Michael Roberts
Thanks nice to someone else sees it my way.
You are absolutely out of your f....g mind....
If I was in your seat, i`d pushed that car backworth
+J Menge That`s why I still have my job lol.
+fastasfox Might've been worth it to see the look on her face, mate.
Been a year since i watched this and its wound me up even more.
Best not it get to you I find. Having said that a container driver got a Foxy tongue lashing this morning for driving like a bell end....on snow.
Mug for reversing, turn engine off and put feet on dash
Think she was perfectly right - HGVs should not be on single track lanes like that - the lanes aren't built for them.
Unfortunately the helicopter delivery service was busy....so they got me 😉
@@fastasfox maybe should use vehicles appropriate for the roads you will be driving on? 😀
@mjb1957uk such as ? The load was too large to fit on a postmans bike... I would be happy to entertain your ideas on delivery though.
I can easily reverse a wagon up there. I'd have given her the keys and said be my guest.
I sympathise with you, had a similar situation in my van, what they dont understand sometimes in narrow lanes, when both your mirrors are both brushing against hedgerows you have no visability behind you to reverse.
They come hearing down the lanes ,then stop a foot away from the hedgerows and expect you to drive through all the undergrowth and hedgerows on your side of the road ,while they sit pretty, One time a Range Rover had a passing bay right behind him, but because it was a little bit muddy, refused to move back, so I just sat there, I dont have a reversing camera on my company van ,so if someone is parked directly behind me I cant see them in my mirrors if I was to reverse, unless they are a reasonable distance back.
i bet she is not from Somerset . she is a city girl who as moved to the country
Wow I think this man did so well
She was totally out of order to him
Maybe he should have put the kettle on ...... karma will catch up with her
Dad I know you would not have been so polite if you weren't on camera🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oh gawsh, i say i live rynd here, I know this road well but i cant reverse. Snooty snotty woman. Even the posh people use 4 letter words. How unbecoming.
+underwaterbubbles I wouldn't call a vauxhall posh xD
Yes it was a bit weird. A supposidly posh speaking woman in a car like that.
You have a false idea of posh, even royalty swear (trust me I've heard it!) and truly posh people would have the scruffiest old banger as well as the most expensive... but they would almost always be a British badge! (Yep, they're still afraid of "Johnny Foreigner")
I have delivered to some "posh" people in the past and their homes were such a mess.
Hide Myass What is your problem my friend ? I think you may need some professional help. Thanks for sharing ? ..........It was my pleasure !
You were so gracious - amazing that woman couldn’t drive past - she sure had a bad attitude!
no way in hell i would have backed up.
“We’ll sit here forever” fine by me I’ve got a sleeper in here, got coffee and enough snap to last me all night. Even got Netflix to myself, when your ready give us a knock on window. That’s what I’d have said!
that's fine in a few hours he may have exceeded his driving hours and had to take a long break!
Without wishing to be patronising or sexist and with all due respect to ladies everywhere there are times of the month when some can be plagued by demons of irrationality, irritability and intolerance. I think you probably met one and you were a true gent.
Have you ever wished you could just drive over them?
Mark Horton
Nobody has pushed me that far...yet lol.
well done you sir have lot more patients than me and I live in the countryside she's definitely one that's moved into the area most country people would reverse the fact she was swearing straight away would of got my back up!
I take it it is a problem you run into on a daily basis? ...that and inpatient drivers that think you should pull over every 2 mins lol
fastasfox no I wouldn't say a daily basis I'm farming and contracting and do verge cutting for the local CC do come across a few on that job it's more annoying when they've just drove past a layby and expect you to reverse I've had to jump in there car and reverse it for them quite a few times because all they seem to do is reverse it straight into the verge!
She says, I always got my own way with Daddy. so there stamps foot.
Good on you for keeping your calm with her and being the better person. Her attitude was terrible, but I suppose that's your private school education for you, to be swearing like that as well for no reason and you where being civil enough. Glad you have her on camera and thousands of people have seen her acting like a moron, hopefully she has seen this herself and seen how she behaved and is embarrassed by it.
one thing for certain she isn't a lady
Sir, my compliments on your driving and your patience, Some of the English roads made me very nervous after being used to Aussie roads, and I have driven trucks and buses.
Unbelievable , ask her to reverse the truck lol
Well done on the 3000 subs mate. Keep the vloggs coming, I'm staying with you. 😋
i will never go back for a small car, if i did drive the truck.
Can you imagine being out on this road in the middle of the night.
You're really nice to drive backwards. I did it once, I took the place of the lady and parked her car.
Us nice guys have to stick together.
He didn't bear right after 300 yards...
James Carter no bears in the country
No bears on the road ;-)
James Carter I know. If he had went to the right in the 1st place when his prat nav had said. It would have brought him to his destination from the other direction on that wide road where he ended up.
Her fear of reversing and the humiliation of being seen trying turned into unjustified anger at the lorry driver
That was an intense showdown. LGV drivers always seem to be the more competent and patient ones. You'd think the tests were even more strict than car driving, and involve more experience.
In my opinion, the opposing driver would probably struggle to reverse their car more than the LGV driver did.
I often wonder what would happen if 2 LGV’s met.
No way would I have reversed the truck! Engine off and feet up!
Michael Kennedy
I get what your saying but I can only deal with what is in front of me and not the what if's so much and bottom line the daughter could not reverse and I needed to find a solution to that problem mate....cheers.
fastasfox oh aye don't get me wrong mate, you did the right, mature thing..
