I highly recommend you check out “god don’t make mistakes” by Conway the machine it’s my favorite rap album this year it has bars, great production, solid features and a lot of emotion to it.
Hot shit by cardi B Kanye etc.. It's below average.. Just want your reaction to kanyes verse because what the hell was that even. He was sleeping through it!
Only Lupe can create an album in 72 hours and still make an 10000x better album then what alot of hip-hop artist has dropped this year. there has been multiple great albums this year but this on Drillmusic in zion is on another level, when it comes to lyrirism, philosofical schemes, thinking. production etc. Drillmusic in zion,More black superheroes, Mr.morale & the big steppers are my 3 faves of the year.
honestly, Lupe's Mural trilogy is one of the greatest series of interconnected songs ever. Highly recommend going after "Mural Jr." on Drogas Wave and "Mural" on Tetsuo & Youth too
I know you mentioned The Cool which is definitely a classic. But when I first heard Revenge Of The Nerds and then Food And Liquor, I have been a Lupe fan ever since. And now that he is off the label and independent we have Tetsou & Youth, Drogas Wave, and now Drill Music In Zion this is kind of an epic 3rd rap career for Lupe Fiasco. But because he is soo great lyrically Lupe has always been in my top 3 and that will never change. Glad you had a chance to break this one down.
I've always wondered why you don't do lyrical analysis videos on Lu... He's way slept in and you could really help people gain perspective on why he's such a beast
@@KnoxHill I actually saw the Royce breakdown which is what raised the question. Excellent breakdown BTW... I'd like to see you dissect The Cool, song by song so you can help people be aware of how fire and slept on it really is. And how slept on Lupe is lyrically. I feel like people who don't write lyrics just don't appreciate how great Lu is. Another song I'd love to see you react to isn't hip hop... but lyrically a masterpiece... American Pie. Anyhow, congrats on leaving your job Knox! You deserve all the success for your hard work 💪
Lupe has the density of a great philosopher with the appeal of a magician. Then layers and complexity of his music makes him an all time great. I loved all the imagery on the album and the religious undertone to it. Best album of the year in my opinion.
Well put. Imo, Difference with him opposed to maybe Aseop Lupe makes great songs and cohesive classic albums. It wouldn't be as enjoyable if the songs sucked. Nas is my Goat. Lupe is my 2nd fav ever but nobody including Nas can touch his pen. I call his barz DaVinci Codes. Lol
Thanks Knox, i listened to Lupe's new album, it's an important record for sure. The beats are real soulful pieces of art. And the lyrics mixed with this unique delivery are more than dope. it reminds also some old indie rap from the labels like Anticon or Big Dada in a 2.0 version. Great discovery!!! Greetings from Switzerland.
I haven’t listened to a lot of Lupe over the years. But I’m about to head down the Rabbit Hole thanks to you Knox. Listening to the new Album straight through as we speak. Reading the lyrics as I go (I don’t have the ears you have Knox) 4 songs in and my mind is already spinning!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
feels so good that Knox is finally acknowledging Lupe. I really hope you can stream his MYH saga from the cool or his The Streets, The Cool and The Game saga. In my opinion this saga is the best thing that has ever been done in hip hop.
I am really liking your recent vids where you just put out your opinions. No reactions, nothing. Just short vids on your opinions on various topics and persons. Also Lupe is underrated af, man started his career with a classic
Great album recap, if I could suggest you listen to precious things again but with this thought. The song is a personification of his hands. The first two verses are lupes perspective about how his hands once helped him achieve his stardom but along the way he felt that they started betraying him. Specific lines that come to mind are the part where he talks about his hands dapping foes and grabbing Moët even though they know he doesn’t drink. The third verse is a response back from his hands from their perspective. How he used them to become famous, we only mattered when fans was putting their hands up. It all gets put together when at the end he says we could go back to before the problem is you don’t use us to write the raps anymore. Lupe in the first half of his career used to write his lyrics down, but around tetsuo I believe he stopped and would just freestyle line by line. So the hands feel betrayed because he used them but when got famous he discarded them that’s why they were leading him astray. Listen again with this knowledge the song gives me goosebumps everytime I listen
@@snowhawk04 Lol, I'm not scared. My hip hop goes back to early 90s (I'm 47), but I had a period where I wasn't listening to anything new, and looks like he came on around 2006... which was then. Anyway, the album is dope!
I know Lupe is well known for his earlier stuff, but I've tended to really enjoy his Tetsuo and Drogas Albums. Incredibly deep, some really unbelievable tracks in those albums that are sooo slept on. I might be in the minority, but - Lupe today >>> Lupe of the past. BTW, I'd love if Knox Hill reacted to some of those more current Lupe tracks from Tetsuo and Drogas... etc.
Damn, that Ms.Mural interpretation. I never thought of that. At the end he burns the patron on the stack of his past work. Which is like Lupe finally leaving Atlantic and becoming independent. But they still own a lot of his music, so he's burning that away as he leaves. Becasue that's money he'll never get back. Minus well burn it and start anew.
I separate rapper's and MC! Rapper's can only talk about certain subjects and most of those are obvious and usually negative! Women, drugs, killing, thug life and materials! While MC's can go deep and talk about any subject and their writing and word play is Supreme! Lupe is a truly great MC!
Love this Knox. Heck, I love all of your vids, lol. I just want you to react to Tetsuo and Youth and see for yourself that this album might be the best lyrical album ever done by a rapper.
Since Tetsuo And Youth, Lupe Fiasco has been the greatest rapper alive. Nobody else even close. Also, we don't take Rolling Stone lists seriously. Hell, Rolling Stone doesn't even take Rolling Stone lists seriously
Knox, do more Lupe reactions. I wanna hear your analysis of some Samurai tracks. Especially 'Cake'. Only Stevie has reacted to it so far, but you're a rapper. I'd love to see your reaction to it.
I notice you pronounced ghoti like "gotti" but "ghoti" is another way to spell "fish." The "gh" in the word tough makes an "f" sound. The "o" in women makes an "i" sound, and then the "ti" in "correction" makes an "sh" sound. Therefore ghoti technically spells fish. At the end of the track he mentions catching bait with fish too and puts an emphasis on the way he says fish. There are also some manitee and pirate at sea lines too. Super clever!
Damn, I'm sad I missed the livestream reaction. Hyped that you gave a video of your thoughts on it. I remember Lu mentioning his next project would, "maybe", be "Drill Music in Zion" in one of his practice freestyles; but I didn't think that shit was gonna actually happen! And now here we are and we're all the better for it.
When black folk moved from down south to Chicago it was because they believed chicago was a safe place for black Americans ,compared to where they came from Chicago was like Zion in comparison... drill music in Zion is what is happening now regarding gangs, deaths, violence crime etc in Chicago a once safe haven... lupa is the best active mc on the planet right now and probably the only one in the last 10 years that can genuinely be considered top 5 /10 of all time... keep listening to this masterpiece it will keep getting better with each listen 🎶... hands down his best work right after tetsuo an youth (another hip hop classic)
Got hard stuck on Precious Things for a minute and the run to On Faux Nem was great. Maybe I'm reaching but it seems the album has some SLR 3.5 inspiration. This album was done what, 2 months after Royce cried on IG for backup then quit? Definitely up there for AOTY for me tho. This year is stacked.
Another layer to the title is "this is how drill music would sound in Zion," the religious (Rastafari) version of Zion not the matrix version. But since we are currently in Babylon, not Zion this is not how drill music sounds.
No. Lupe’s real breakthrough into the mainstream was that Kanye West Touch The Sky track. He was rapping conscious then and catapulted with his his albums and releases
