    Love the Synty packs but hate the character customization (or lack there off). In my pirate game I find it silly the hat of the character can't be hidden when using an aim camera. And I'm no 3d artist so all my attempts to change the fbx resulted in big failures. At least they provide colliders which is a huge step forwards.

      I heard rumours of people chopping these up and getting them working. I need to track them down

    • @enerzise3161
      @enerzise3161 4 года назад

      What we are working on with Archery aim is we have the camera move slightly forward so the hats or whatever is not in the way. When the player does a slow power draw the camera moves forward to zoom the view for aiming at things further away targets. We plan on using this for sniper and also scope aiming in general. The other option we looked at was using a dissolve shader to remove the part of what was in the way/view. Just search Dissolve on the Unity Asset store. We also purchased the Module Characters from Synty to see how they cut them up, so we could start converting all their other Synty characters we have, into that system.

      Ughh,, I feel ya. That is the BIGGEST negative I have with Synty. I want to be able to procedurally generate NPC's but I cannot take a "Naked" character and UV map it so I can make custom clothing (which is just really defining UV maps and changing the texture of it). ALL the packs I have bought from them and I have to use a different low poly character pack to get done what I need.

      @@SteveTheExploiter hi first I know nothing about modelling but the most recent packs I bought from syntys own store had the option to download source files, which those on unity asset store do not, maybe those are a better starting point for customisation?

    • @TheMessyCoder
      @TheMessyCoder  4 года назад +1

      Ive bought a few when on sales, but many of the last lot have been gifted thankfully. We also managed to get free vouchers to give away as prizes. We gave away packs during the interviews with them and gave away quite a few packs in the Game Jam we just had.
      Check the descriptions of the reviews to see which packs were gifted. But dont worry, gifted packs or not, I give the same review. Had a gifted pack before and gave it 3 stars,
      If anyone wants to gift an asset for review, they get told that reviews will be 100% honest and if they dont like constructive criticism filmed on RUclips then stay away. Thankfully most people are happy to show the good & the bad because they see it as a way to get better and also to be up front with what they are selling.

    I just bought it myself. I use Unreal though so I spent a couple hours importing and setting up skeletons and materials.
    The price IS epic but the content is worth every penny.
    If you’re making a low poly RPG, and you’re not creating the assets by yourself, then I’d call this pack a must have. Even though it’ll flood the market with games using this content.

I was gonna tweak some of the characters, but when i open the characters fbx in blender... lets just say it doesn't work. it seems like all the models are stacked on top of each other and very distorted, would love it if someone could help me out here. thanks in advance!

    • @chrismatic3789
      @chrismatic3789 4 года назад

      The models genuinely are all stacked on each other. In Unity each prefab deactivates all but one model. You should be able to do the same thing in blender, go to object view and turn off all but one. Distortion sounds like something to do with the skeleton (which should be shared between all of them). I know some companies like to export the animations and models as separate .fbx files. Have you checked if the animations are missing?

  • @Notion3D
    @Notion3D 4 года назад +1

    So you say...$280 and only maybe 1000 people buy it. Well do the math.. if 500 people buy it at that price, that's $150K (ONE HUNDRED FIFTY THOUSAND dollars). Stop trying to act like they are giving it away at a bargain, they're making BANK and charging a modern premium price. The value of assets for indie devs in 2020 is in no way comparable to AAA man-hour cost, It'd be nice if we ended that narrative.

    • @TheMessyCoder
      @TheMessyCoder  4 года назад +5

      I 100% agree with you that they are charging a modern premium price. but premium for the asset store as we have now come to expect very low prices for big packs.
      The asset store is full of art from different artists at different skill levels. You buy what you can afford for the quality you can afford. You just need to make sure that the quality of the item you are buying is what you expected and what was advertised.
      Buying from Synty is buying from team who have experience making some of the best 3D art in modern day movie history. They have taken their time to translate their craft to game development, but I cannot see any reason not to call their work AAA studio ready. My argument is that the quality of the products means that if you are to hire someone to do the same work, you will spend 100 times the amount it costs you to buy the asset.
      Is this pack worth $280, well the answer is, if it is priced at $280 and people are buying it and happy then yes its worth it at that price. If people are buying it and unhappy, then no its not worth that price. Giving away a bargain is based on the value of the item.
      I hope that they are making BANK but they dont take home as much as people think. Here are some made up numbers to have some fun.
      Full price of $280 * 500 lifetime sales = 140,000 minus 30% from asset store commission = $98,000 - tax (not sure what thats in NZ, think its about 28% so that would be down to $70,000 income from 500 sales. Lets say 3D artist in NZ is on USD45,000 per year (taken from Glassdoor). They have 3 to 4 people working on assets but lets say 4 worked on this for 2 months only. So lets say that the asset cost $22,500 in wages.
      So we went from $140,000 in sales over lifetime of an asset (which could be months or years) to clearing around $47,000 in profit.
      Dont get me wrong thats a nice profit, but its not going to get anyone a Ferrari and if they were not making a profit they wouldnt be doing this.
      I've spent far too much money on Synty stuff that I hope I dont get in trouble for, mainly because I never end up making any games with them, I just bought them on a sale because, well, they were on a sale. The Humble Bundle was great because you could get so much stuff for pretty much nothing. FREE GIFTS
      Thank god I got gifted some of these packs for the reviews, and thankfully we also got gifted lots of vouchers to give away to many viewers, but yep $280 is still pricey if you are looking for a nice pack for an indie game. But I guess thats why its good to have people selling other low poly looking assets on the store for much lower cost.

    Well, $280 dollar, and everyone needs their own license. So if you're, say, 5 people working on a game, that's $1400. Sure there's a lot of assets, but much of it can't be used. None of the character models can be used, only a few bits and pieces here and there, ones that don't scream "asset pack". Which means you're pay a lot of a decent amount.... I really don't like the idea of these big packs, it would be better with asset asset packs, ya know, just bits you can throw into your game.

    • @TheMessyCoder
      @TheMessyCoder  4 года назад +1

      I recommend you visit the Synty studios store and read their license details. You might be happily surprised as its 1 purchase for 5 user licenses.
      Also if you were to pay artists to make these packs then you would be paying a lot more than $1400.

    • @muuubiee
      @muuubiee 4 года назад +3

      @@TheMessyCoder Ah, yeah "each single licence purchase you make includes five seats for your Team" that's nice.
      Getting an artist to make these assets would be very expensive, that's true. You could release a game with the assets as is, but you do want to change them so they're not too recognizable... 1 license covering 5 seats is pretty good though, that does make them good buys actually.

    We are talking about how to get this pack. We wish Synty Studios would sell virtual Polygon Currency called Syntygon on their own website, as in $10 will buy 9 $yntygons. $1 covers the "Processing Fee". $20 buys 19 $yntygons $25 buys 24 $yntygons, for $101 will buy 100 $yntygons. The more you buy the better the savings. They could offer the members of SYNTYGON $AVINGS CLUB special buys on bulk purchases like 10% off on a purchase of 10 Poly Packs known as $PECIAL BUY$. We have $50 in our bank savings account, but we have $220 in our Amazon account because we can put a little here and a little there on it and we can not shop Walmart or Target with Amazon so it sits and builds until we want or need something. If that is to problematic then they could do Non-Refundable Layaway but to us the $yntygons sounds more interesting. I would put the Polygon Fantasy Kingdom and the Polygon Apocalypse pack on layaway. I sent a message to Unity a year ago asking for this... NO GO as they never implemented it. Sure would make it easier to buy the higher priced items. Also if the Apocalypse comes and world currencies collapse a Syntgon will still be worth a Syntygon.
