I didn't find out the Soviet Union owned the rights to Tetris until WELL after I was an adult.
I wouldn't either, because I know the real story and none of this political thriller manure ever happened.
Revealing the gameboy to him was like introducing a weapon of seismic proportions and I'm here for it!!!

I hope this movie is successful and starts a trend of video game movies that simply tell the true events in the history of the video game industry. I'd love to get a Sega vs Nintendo movie and a movie about how Nintendo betrayed Sony while they were collaborating on a console called the PlayStation.

The Gaming Historian did an episode on Tetris back in 2018 that's an hour long. Well worth the watch.
Just if you're wondering, the Tetris theme is actually a real Russian song called "Korobeiniki".
The song "Korobeiniki" is based on a poem of the same name by Nikolay Nekrasov, which was first printed in the Sovremennik magazine in 1861. Its increasing tempo and the associated dance style led to it quickly becoming a popular Russian folk song.
Korobeiniki were peddlers with trays, who sold fabric, haberdashery, books and other small items in pre-revolutionary Russia. Nekrasov's much longer poem tells the story of a young peddler who seduces a peasant girl named Katya one night in a field of rye. He offers her some of his wares as gifts in exchange for a kiss and, as it is implied, sexual favours.

I love that they finally made a movie based on this amazing true story but I’m sad it’s gonna be an Apple TV exclusive. If anyone doesn’t know this amazing story I highly reccomend the documentary gaming historian did a few years ago about it.
I think they'll release it on DVD eventually, they did it with Spirited I think

...A spy thriller biopic...about Tetris? ...Far better than the alternative, coming up with some insane story to why blocks are falling out of the sky.

One of the best movies ever about video games. Highly recommended. Since start to finish you cannot stop watching .
Whoever remixed the Tetris theme with Europe's 'The Final Countdown" and a load more 8-bit/synth is a genius. Banger.

I’ve read about this story in David Sheff’s "Game Over" - the book about Nintendo’s history in 80s-early90s. Chapters about the history behind Tetris were the most interesting imo

The real story of Tetris is already crazy enough without adding in random home invasions, but I'll go with it.
Never thought I'd see a rated R Tetris movie, but here we are.
I kept going back and forth between “this thing has got to be, at least, 25% embellishment”

That trailer is such a perfect concept and the trailer music seems mixed with The Final Countdown by Europe.

@@seanmcmillin3081 Honestly it is. The Soviet Union owned the rights to Tetris, and somehow it wound up on the Japanese Gameboy being sold to their mortal enemies the Americans. This is the real story.

I'm guessing it's hiroshi yamauchi at the end of the trailer, and his line is the essence of Nintendo. Not bad from yamauchi meant excellent.

A wonderful example of cognitive impact on the masses, which Americans will not even notice. They even stuffed it into a Tetris movie. Couldn't you have made a less contrasting color pattern? The USSR is all in blue and dark shades, winter snow. And sunny America. Cranberry.

I think I'm the only one that knows this but the old man he is talking to is supposed at the end (2:37) to be Nintendo's President back in the 80s Hiroshi Yamauchi!!! I just a very nice detail to add in there, especially for me as a Nintendo fan

3rd biopic but first with Taron Egerton using an American accent.
The other biopics were Eddie The Eagle and Rocketman. His a really good actor.
He did a limited series last year for Apple called Black Bird where he also had an American accent. The same dialect coach - Carter Ballaimey worked with Taron on Tetris and Black Bird.
