I agree with you on the fact that lots of people getting into "dubstep" now, think that this is all it is and are not even aware of the older stuff. But thats how it works for genres, they just develop. And lets be honest, the real dubstep purists and those who have been round since the start in 2000 would definitely have the same argument against cookie monster! That tune is closer to being like this one above, than original dubstep tunes.

you know what? im not a huge skrillex fan for the same reason, i think theres soo much other talent out that that deserves the respect skrillex has. but what you said makes sense, hes obviously famous for a reason. i think where some people (like myself) start to hate is when skrillex constantly gets labeled as the "FACE" of dubstep. It get annoying, hence the desire to hate. there's way too much good stuff out there
i totally agree with what you say. and i know that cookie monsta isn't old dubstep. it is the dubstep i prefer. i just wanted to say that so people knew that i wasn't purely hating on newer dubstep. but i think the cookie monsta sound is closer to the old dubstep then it is to this dubstep. it's the "old" sound with a slightly more heavy and sinister beat. but i think we can prevent a lot of frustration (just like the frustration that happened with hip-hop) if we change the name.
