Proud of this band going from my little city Jonquière in Quebec Canada. A true influence of choice with their own style, their own color... Hails Snake and others voivods!!!!
They are from the city where im born. Jonquiere. I went to school with Denis "Piggy" Damour daughter. I'm a Voivoid fan since War and Pain and Tribal Conviction is my favorites Voivoid song !
you can see some of the younger people in that crowd are completely dumbfounded by such radical shifts in timing and tempo-- and what is this? something other than a powerchord?????? they just had their first alien encounter!
I'm so proud that they're Canadian! But dam are they ever underrated, they are so original sounding & do their own thing. I've always wondered if they were American if they would have been bigger?
Soundgarden and FNM toured with them you mean , as they were just getting going and VOIVOD at the time had their biggest hit the NOTHINGFACE album. That was the first show of the 90;s I saw, Jan 1990. What a way to start the decade!!! Really looking forward to new album....
I saw this show at the Spectrum. One of the best i've seen. I had won 2 places for me and one of my buddy to go to Musique Plus for the Nothingface album special release show. We each had a bag when we arrived there which contained the album, a ticket for the january Spectrum show and a Nothingface tshirt, maybe more small things but this is all i remember. They all kindly signed our tshirt and Away gave me a drumstick. Voivod were happy to be there, they chat with the guests a little bit when not playing or interviewed and we had a very pleasing and relax 2-3 hours with the band and the Musique Plus crew. The only time i won something that was worth it.
I was into thrash/speed in high school. College radio had a late show on weekends and they'd spin the most obscure shit. I tuned each week and recorded everything I liked, I was exposed to a lot. This came out and it blew my mind, turned me off of the entire genre. I heard melodic dissonance. I heard groove. I heard textures that made my mind wander. Other bands tended to sound the same and became boring. Voivod stood apart. Even their earlier stuff, just something about it.
Great comment! Metal isn't really my genre but thanks to Spotify I can check out a ton of new bands really easily. Voivod was so out there I had to give it a few more listens but after it clicked I had to listen to ALL their albums. They really do stand apart. DH is my fave!
Thanks I thought it was piggy at first,he actually favors him,but he's taller,he played piggy's parts very good, piggy was the most underrated guitarist ever,he ruled r.i.p!!
Actually when I think about it,There has never been a Canadian metal act that has made it big like Megadeth,Metallica,Anthrax,Slayer type of status. You got Anvil,Sacrifice,Cancer Bats,3 Inches of Blood etc but not to the status of the bands I mentioned above. I'm not a fan but you got your very successful mainstream Canadian rock acts that have made it big in the states like Nickleback,Theory of a Deadman,Rush,Sum 41,Avril Lavigne.& lesser known acts like Big Wreck,54-40,Tragically Hip,TeaParty
Dimension Hatröss is a monument of metal music
No one can replace Piggy, but obviously this guy can shred, and he holds true to Piggy's riffs in a respectful way.
This is what great music looks and sounds like. 35 years in and still breaking ground. Voivod is family.

Tribal Convictions is my favourite Voivod song
This bass looks like a weapon.

Amazing rhythm, lead guitar, chords. Love this band!

+Michael Bath HAHAHA They fuckin did!
Its the King Crimson influence for sure.
these guys are fucking awesome, we love these guys in Australia
Classic and brilliant masterpiece!!!
Mis mejores recuerdos escuchandolos en la Patagonia a fines de los 80s. Thanks for posting.
Thank you, VOIVOD, for being VOIVOD
Love this band! This was the first Voivod song I heard :)
I'm so proud that they're Canadian! But dam are they ever underrated, they are so original sounding & do their own thing. I've always wondered if they were American if they would have been bigger?
I don't think so, it's too weird for most casual listeners. Voivod is mostly a bands' band.
Away kicks butt, Voivod Rules !
Nice to see Blacky
This song from MTV Headbangers ball back in the eighties hard as fuk!
awesome video! thanks for posting!!!!!!!!! these dudes are so underrated
what a tiny drum kit and yet it sounds massive . love this band man .
Yeah totally different from the drum kit seen in the 1986 live video from NY. It was huge back then lol
Voivod is what mother ships play loud during battle.
My favorite band :)
Like a flash in the dark
My life has been
Lit up like a spark
They turn around the big fire
They sing a song to get higher!
One of the best metal hits of all time.
Liberatore guitars refuses to build replicas of the blower bass.
So I had a another custom shop build me a replica based on it.
The best group in world!
Senks
Wow, just awesome....

I have a feeling that Michel "Away" Langevin is the only member of Voivod to have been an ever present member since they started in the early 1980s
Sounds fantastic!
That bass look like an alien weapon 👽
The kids in the crowd just didn't get it.
Captain_Mogsey
Same thoughts!

Damn! Is there a way I can get a bass like that???
I'm so happy that you're back in the band Jean-Yves.

@@raniajoy It's a Liberatore Blower Bass. Made by a luther in Quebec that is retired now.
