    Medvedev played a fantastic match. Without taking any merit out of Alcaraz, it is really frustrating to see and hear the bias in the commentators yesterday trying to justify in any way why Alcaraz should win and how great he is. After M going two sets up, at the very beginning of the third set, one of the commentators said if he would lose the third, the match would be basically over because A would win. At that time, A was just starting to raise his level but was 2 sets down! How can you be so biased! You can’t minimize what M was doing until that point! I can understand marketing but you have to be professional.

      In 2021, Chris McKendrey of ESPN did numerous conversations in between and during matches with the expert commentators about how Novak Djokovic was going to become the first man to win the year Grand Slam since Rod Laver. From the very beginning of the tournament, she spoke of pretty much nothing else, so excited to be able to be the one to hand that trophy to Novak. I think she would have given him the trophy on the first day if she could have. I loved the trophy ceremony where she had to hand it to Medvedev. She was smiling, but I think with tears in her eyes that tennis history had not been made with her there. I'm hoping for a similar outcome on Sunday. (The one good thing about having my ESPN cut off from my cable, is that I didn't have to hear them go on and on about how wonderful and exciting the Alcaraz/Djokovic match was going to be, and Alcaraz was the greatest thing since sliced bread)

    • @kevinharris3993
      @kevinharris3993 Год назад +7

      The media has always been biased. So are the commentators. Novak is still playing at the top of his game, and they have already named Carlos as his successor. It is very disrespectful. They say Coco is the replacement for Serena. Why, because she is Black? Serena Williams is the GOAT of women's tennis. Do you think only a Black player is motivated by the success of Serena Williams? All women tennis players admire the great work Serena has done on the court. It is a shame that all of Serena's accomplishments are being grouped into her race and not her success as the greatest female player of all time, white, black, etc

      THANK YOU for saying this! I was a little bit frustrating to watch as a neutral tennis fan that night. I am a fan of Alcaraz's game and his weapons so I can understand the bias from the crowd (which I also think was too much at times) but the bias from the commentators was really too much and unprofessional.
      You are spot on with the third set commentary. I recall them saying "Knowing how great this kid is, if he wins the third set, the match is still going to be 50/50 for Medvedev" and this was only after 2 games in the third set! The entire time, they were talking about how Alcaraz is going to come back. The worst part for me was during long rallies in which Medvedev won, they would instantly state how the rally was only so good because of Alcaraz. Don't get me wrong, Alcaraz is great but my goodness the lack of respect for Medvedev's game was too much. The commentators go crazy for even the simplest of shots from Alcaraz...

      I guess u might be getting too sensitive regarding this. As off now it is true that no woman in WTA is capable to carry the legacy of Serena or Grraph or Navratilovaa.
      However, people love to find look alike , that's why they say like father like son. That's no mean no other can emulate them but that reemphasizes our inherent loyalty to bloodline ( in broader sense , skin complexion line).

    WTF strategy. Just serve bombs in sweet spots and kill the +1 shot. Then make him work like hell on his serve. This is how Medvedev plays normally, he just upped it up a notch last night, also his ground strokes were 10-20km faster than his averages, to avoid letting Alcaraz take control of the point. Simple, really in essence, but EXTREMELY hard to execute consistently in a 3 hours match. He dropped the level in set 3 just enough to allow Alcaraz a break, but that was it. Alcaraz was spending 6.6 minutes on his serve games and Medvedev 1.6minutes (incredible serving) on his own serve. The pressure this creates for the opponent is incredible. It worked against Djokovic in US Open final when Medvedev won, the exact same strategy blueprint, the EXACT SAME STRATEGY. But to keep serving like that for a match, even for his 1.98 meters height (which is CRUCIAL when you talk about serving) is an achievement. It was the same for Rublev, who has 1.88m but is not maybe in the same league as Alcaraz in movement. Alcaraz is 1.83m which is a PROBLEM when it comes to serve, basic physics people, height, angle and the leverage effect of lenght of arms (raquet head speed). Also to be fair on crucial points Alcaraz decision making last night was questionable, normal if you think he is 20 years old and still needs experience to complement that immense talent. We will see him dominate in the years to come if he stays healthy (not easy considering power of hitting coming from a 1.83m tall man).

      also for the tennis nerds out there, stop listening to this BS "I need to be 11 out of 10 to beat the guy" etc. Medvedev is smart, these are mind games to let the opponent think he got this than BANG, one in the gut. I been playing this sport for 30 years, pleasantries and PR aside this is a brutal game and it is played for millions of $$$. The glory , leave that to the others I would take the money in the bank anyday (paraphrasing a self made billionaire entrepreneur). This comment is accurate. Meddy's execution was the crucial difference. Carlos clearly was not mentally there and did not execute, but is the better player in terms of his ultimate level. He is only 20 and is already mentally ALMOST on par with the Big 3. I feel like he will continue to mature and improve, but I am less sure about how injury prone he is. That may turn out to be the real long-term challenge he faces.

    Medvedev is a genius on the court. I don't like some of his whining antics. However, I respect his talent. Some people complain about young Ben Shelton. Some people say Ben is not humble and arrogant because he has a phone antic that I love and so does Novak. However we applaud Medvedev who in my opinion is very disrespectful to the players, the umpire, and the fans. Yet, we give him a pass because he has a high IQ....interesting.

    After being beat by Alcaraz at Indian Wells & Wimbledon, Med was determined to get his win in finally. Now Alcaraz will just find another way to beat him. Hopefully, Med will take the title on Sunday. I am tired of Djokovic (THE GOAT), but lets shake up the draw. Someone else needs to win.
    P.S. Alcaraz is my favorite player at 20 he has two majors.

  • @ADJoshua1

    Catch 22: was Alcaraz’s level somehow off and below his standard excellence, or was Medvedev’s level so high as to beat a top form Alcaraz?… I would say the former. So not much to talk about here. And considering the Medvedev’s
    mediocre performance against Djokovic in the final, I would not even expect much from Medvedev against Alcaraz or Djokovic moving forward.
