- Reports out today that parts of Google's Gemini demo were edited to make the AI seem faster and smarter than it actually is. CNBC's Steve Kovach and 'Halftime Committee' discuss what this means for Alphabet.
Lying and false advertising is not a marketing issue. It is an integrity issue.

The problem is that the AI model runs completely contrary to the model of making money from ads. Who wants to go to an AI source, and end up with all sorts of pop-up advertisements ? Google is very vulnerable here, as they should be because they spent the last 20 years in politics and not innovation
I agree that Google hasn't been in the business of innovation for a long time. I think that advertising when combined with AI will be more subtle than popups.

Google's Gemini is already 1/2 year behind OpenAi, which is decisive. You can't just copy an AI; you need to have the exact same advancements in the exact same order to even have a competitive AI. I know this as I am studying machine learning.

Have you looked at careful reviews of their Gemini unveiling? Gemini’s best version (out early next year) is flat-out superior to ChatGPT4 in most apples to apples comparisons. Google’s overeager marketing just used a non apples to apples comparison in one place and had a misleading segment (discussed in this video). They rolled an extremely high functioning vehicle down a hill when they could have instead put all the focus on unassailable claims.

Fireship did a pretty good breakdown of the fake stuff in that demo. He got fooled and had posted a video yesterday but then realized the issues so he posted a new one today. I'd suggest watching both.

Google AI answer for "what is the voltage of a 2016 Battery".. "The voltage of a CR battery is always 1.5 volts, so CR 2032, CR 2025, and CR2016 batteries are all 3-Volt batteries".
The video was not altered or edited. It wasn't an interaction with the AI at all.

No it's not, they're hiding a bigger problem. We are running out of 10 nano meter micro-chips. The demand for it through the roof and we can't make enough of it. So now we must choose between AI, homes batteries, Electric cars, and etc.
And another thing we are running your workers to mine the minerals we need to make the micro-chips in America as well.

How is this a marketing issue? It wasn't a mistake. It was a deliberate lie.
This could have easily been avoided if the marketing simply stated that this part isn't a real demo- like in video game trailers when a caption says "not actual gameplay".

Marketing didn't make a "mistake." This is false advertising and Google needs to answer for this.

The shell companies use this recycled money to buy NVDA chips to boost up NVDA ER numbers 3) they buy back stock at opportune times to create gamma squeezes in the stock price like they did when they purchase the stock around 500 a share during the post ER session in late summer….jensen huang has repeatedly lied about product capabilities and under delivered on those promises. He has a history of accounting fraud dating 20 years plus….look at some videos from nobody special to learn more about the many strategies NVDA has employed to pump their stock and ER numbers.
The second time Google have rushed an incomplete AI product to market.
Remember, these "Wall Street analysts" also loved FTX before it burned to the ground and cost investors billions. Do your own research and make your own decisions and ignore these fools. Or get into a mutual fund with a good track record and let the experts pick and choose.

When I saw Google's Gemini presentation, I noticed it looked too good to be real. Well... It was fake from the very beginning. The CEO Google needs a step down for this utter embarrassment.

How is this news? I worked in the software industry for 40 years - all companies (product management/marketing) do this for public demos all of the time.

Baffled how CNBC host and steve are the only ones with the feet on the ground telling it how it is. The other guys are using convenient explanation that might have sound but aren't really useful. Like saying "Oh, Google was late to the game on search, and look what they did" Yeah, that was the G in startup mode. This is a different animal all around. If they haven't figure commercial AI by now, I don't think they will catch OpenAI any time soon. Not with out sacrificing business units. This is not a problem that can be solved by opening the wallet. OpenAI has a few huge advantages; the insane team, the freedom to be Google in startup mode, but with the holy grail of computing and Microsoft resources in a silver platter.

The most impressive thing the AI world has created so far (That works) is chat GPT and as far as im concerned it's just a more advanced google search. Besides that we're only being showed a bunch of demos that cannot be fully verified. This story isn't a shock to me at all. I'm not saying AI doesnt have a bright future, I'm just saying after all the hype, I'm not impressed.
It's so much more than an advanced search. I can't imagine people using ChatGPT just for searching. I'd rather use Bing AI if that's the only use.
I tend to agree, but the technology really is in its infancy. AI generated artwork is definitely reaching professional quality and that's about where it rests currently.
I would say, google Marketing screwed up but not the technology. Gemini Pro seems slightly better than Chat GPT but not as good as GPT-4. The Ultra version which has not come out yet reminds to be seen. But does show pretty good multi-model solutions that are good as GPT-4 and even slighter better. Just remember that there are hints that OpenAI GPT-4.5 TURBO will be coming out by the end of this year. ORCA-2 is almost as good as GPT-4 and pretty sure ORCA-3 will be out early next year. Pi-2 is being worked on for release soon. I would say 2 to 3 months from now the AI landscape may be very different on who the top lead is.
The sad thing is the product they're launching is going to be an immediate disappointment. Set up to fail almost. I was buzzing after seeing what Gemini could do but now just feel duped. Not a good starting point for consumer trust. And that is googles USP. They hold us to ridiculous high standards. They can expect the same in return. I see their shares have tumbled a fair bit so will be interesting to see this pan out
@@jimgilliescdbc1973 if you read the Google Technical Report on Gemini, it is quite impressive and it DOES beat GPT-4 in many of the benchmarks. I think people are riding the unhype train. Let the dust settle and we may see more better reports. We just need to wait until ULTRA model is released so we can do our own testing. I am opportunistic about the ULTRA model. The only thing I would do is not give the google marketing team any end of the year bonus.

Everybody's making these chat bots, but there's no new innovation with this tech. So, with auto-writing code and e-mails, we are going to enter a new era of technology? ChatGPT is has been around for a year, yet productivity has not made the leaps and bounds promised by these technologies. The narrative is getting stale.

No, they're hiding a bigger problem. We are running out of 10 namo meter microchips. There just not enough to go around for all the Electric Cars, and Cyber Trucks, home battery systems, Iphones and other smart phones. The demand is soring and we just can make them fast enough.
Enough people have used some form of Ai somewhere in their workflow - I can honestly speak for most of them. It’s not ready yet. You have to check and double check the results that it would be faster to get the answers myself! From ideas to pictures with 6 fingers to just iffy data. It’s like hiring a three year old. Sure the future is bright - but just like Metaverse and Crypto - it’s not viable for the majority of workers the way it was advertised.
I wouldn't say Ai is replacing workers, but creating new types of jobs for people to create new types of very cheap and niche content that wasn't possible before.
Skilled Human artists and writers are more costly, though they make far fewer mistakes, so they can work on more costly productions that earn more.
