Aside from tactical analysis, Simeone has a big heart. Never see the man sits down like others(correct me if I'm wrong), always standing(as if he's playing with his team) and cheering his team on like crazy. Charismatic and passionate describes him so much...

The old 4-4-2 system traditionally had aggressive wingers and a '9' and a '10' up front.
When the wingers push high, and the '10' drops to link play - you end up with a modern 4-3-3.
The terminology changes, but the fundamentals never do.

Funny thing is, atletico have been the fear of any big club for the last 3 years, especially real madrid have had issues. But when the 2 madrid clubs play in the champions league, Real always came out on top. And has been the only team to knock out atletico 3 years straight. Basically atletico would probably have 3 CL's if it wasnt for real madrid

+Wes Chambers People who call Guardiola the best manager do not give Heynckes enough credit. Heynckes was arguably the more successful manager (he did lead Bayern to the treble, after all), but he still was able to implement a fast and exciting style of play, as opposed to Guardiola's boring possession-based football. And on top of that, he did not ignore and disrespect Bayern's traditions and club legends, like Guardiola did. Heynckes was by far the better manager.

During Simeones peak at Atletico when they had players like Courtois, Filipe Luis, Falcao etc. They were pretty much impossible to break down. I would watch my club against them and teams pretty much didnt even get close to their box. It was extremely frustrating to watch. They drew their forwards so far back and their wingers inside. We would pass the ball wide to the full back and the only way to go after that was always back or switch the ball to the other flank. I dont know if people understands how hard it is to get your players to work like this for 90 minutes a whole season. To get players like Diego Costa with his personality to play as a midfielder when defending. Its like trying to get Zlatan to do that. I dont care what anyone says about Simeone, not even fucking KLOPP could break this guys team down. Yeah its boring to watch this kind of "parasite" type of football but its also fascinating to me because still, Simeones strikers still scores like 20+ goals in the league. Griezmann, Falcao, Diego Costa even Torres improved there,

    • @VirallVariety

Pretty much spot on. Ppl just dismiss saying park the bus but they don’t know the immense concentration, work ethic and self belief required to pull it off against the very best clubs. It’s the same reason you don’t see burnley beating Liverpool every other week. Pulling this tactic off is a completely different than just doing it just for the sake of it

Brilliant video. So interesting. I've been wondering if Griezmann were to leave who in world football would be a suitable replacement? His job at Atleti is so difficult and crucial, it's one thing to be a skilled striker it's another to be relied upon to have the individual skills to be able to take advantage of the few opportunities he has per game to score, against the best teams in the world. His skill and adaptability is astonishing, watching him in the French national side you can see that flexibility.

He'll be lucky to win 1 meaningful trophy there in the next 5 years where as with City he'd probably get 7-10 trophies in that period. Bizarre.

Fantastic again, would love to see your take on the Ajax side under Runis Michels and the evolution of the side from the deployment of the Sweeper to a Libero and the high press, you have touched on it in the pressing video, but would be quality to see more white boards of it. also purely from a Scottish point of view show how inferior teams can beat the better sides by using shape and teamwork over individual quality

To beat this system efficiently as being one of Atleti's fan for years is to dribble over them since they focus on contain in the back rather than pressuring the opponent and they're not used to some likes of hazard messi to over pass their defence

Great stuff! Although I might add, when the opponent has the ball in the middle of the field (CBs and deep in midfield), both strikers are dropping in front of the midfielders unusually deep, effectively as another two midfielders.
Only when the opponent is on the brink of losing the ball/played it out wide, do one of the strikers lurk forward anticipating a long ball.

If Glazers wants Manchester United to be a successful & much more organised side, then hire Diego Simeone for sure, he is obviously one of the most intelligent managers, promotes youths, nurture them & make them stars, at the same time his team fights for the championship & grabs it..That's what we need in Manchester United..We would like to see the vintage Manchester United which we have been seen for a long time..I think Simeone would be smart movie after Mourinho era..

Would love to see a video of Sampaoli's tactics if possible. Hearing so much about him but haven't had the chance to watch some Sevilla games. Also if you could go into more detail on the whole 'Southampton recruitment model' that would also be very entertaining (Claude Puel's tactics explained would be helpful as a Southampton fan who is a bit puzzled sometimes!). Huge fan of the videos, keep it up.

It'd be fair to have an analysis on ZZ's Madrid, which has had an impressive run this season, but I (and several friends whom I've discussed it) have no idea if it even has a special style or it's just the raw power they have that makes them successful. Maybe it's their super prolific scoring defense line, idk. Thank you. Awesome work!

peps city high pressure/counter attack tactics (one used against barca, tottenham, and chelsea).
its a really intersting and effective tactics unfortunately ruined by indivisual defensive mistakes.
