Here is some more information about the Gracie Combatives course:
The Course
Although Gracie Jiu-Jitsu consists of more than 600 techniques, studies of the fights conducted by members of the Gracie Family show that 36 techniques have been used more often, and with greater success, than all the other techniques combined. Originally developed for the U.S. Army, Gracie Combatives is the only course that is entirely dedicated to the mastery of these 36 essential techniques. Until recently, this course was taught exclusively at a small network of Gracie Academy certified training centers, but now, the complete Gracie Combatives course is available on DVD and can be learned from the comfort of your own home!
The Objective
What makes the Gracie Combatives collection so unique is that it is the only instructional DVD series ever produced with the sole objective of taking the viewer - regardless of their age, gender or athletic ability - from no knowledge to street ready without ever stepping foot into a school of martial arts. Every other instructional video series to date was designed to give viewers additional techniques and tips to complement the training they were receiving at an actual school of martial arts, whereas the entire Gracie Combatives series was produced under the assumption that the viewer had absolutely no previous experience.
Dynamic Reflex Development
What separates Gracie Combatives from other martial arts instructional DVDs is a revolutionary teaching system called Dynamic Reflex Development™. Although there are thousands of martial arts instructional DVDs in existence that show the viewers how to do various techniques, up until now, there has never been an instructional series that gives the viewers the exact system they must follow to develop their reflexes in the execution of all the techniques in combination with one another. In each Gracie Combatives lesson, the new technique is first presented to you in the form of simplified drills, or Technical Slices™. Then, it is combined with one other technique in a Reflex Development Drill™. Finally, at the end of each lesson, you will learn how to execute the newly learned technique in the context of a real fight by combining it with several other techniques in a Fight Simulation Drill™.
The Blue Belt Qualification Test
Gracie Combatives is the most comprehensive instructional series ever produced by the Gracie Family. Comprised of 13 DVDs and over 18 hours of instruction, this collection features every detail of every technique that must be mastered before one is considered for blue belt. On the 13th DVD of the collection, you will find a complete demonstration of the Blue Belt Qualification Test that one must pass to qualify for promotion (this is the exact same test that students take for promotion at the Gracie Academy). Once you become extremely proficient in the execution of the five Blue Belt Qualification Drills (BBQDs), you are invited to test for promotion at any Certified Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Training Center. If you do not live near an accredited school, you can also test for promotion using the revolutionary Gracie Video Evaluation Process. Through this process, you will digitally record your performance of the five BBQDs, and then upload the videos to the Internet at www.GracieUnive.... Your videos will be viewed by a Gracie Academy instructor and if you meet Gracie Academy standards, your name will be added to the list of Certified Belt Holders and we will mail you an official Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Blue Belt!

These are the best tutorials I have ever seen
The hugging mount escape should be the first self-defense technique taught at all BJJ gyms. Great stuff!!
Isn't it ? I was thinking the same, all I saw was super complicated knee bumps to X guard, to transition to half guard, arm drag back take.. My My the list goes on and on
I watched this video one time, enrolled in my local Gracie University, and have not missed a class in 3 months. Heading into the Gracie Master Cycle this week. This has literally changed my life. These are the best Jiujitsu teachers around imo. Thanks for everything guys.
Rener is a master teacher. No doubt about it!
Rener Gracie is the best JuJitsu instructor on the planet.
Hell yeah :)))
This is my third time watching. It never gets boring
Best tutorials I've seen indeed 🙏
Jiujitsu needs to get back to this. All this lopsided focus on sport BJJ is okay, but this is more important.
Man, these guys can teach!
Very helpful info for ANY martial art...
You two brothers remind me of 2 little bear Cubs rolling! I am learning from my instructor but enjoy watching the videos!
Firstly, unlike many well meaning folks, you are clear and concise.
- When we try out this escape we have trouble with the move at 1:30 (sliding out slightly). We get no movement when we try to slide.
- With the wrap over the arm at 1:42 we wind up not being able to flip the attacker. He has great leverage with the remaining hand. If we pull both of the attackers arms inside to our sternum we can flip the attacker easily. I almost got a double flip of my instructor. I highly suspect that our arm wrap problem is because we are so focused on staying off the ground and that someone trained in Jiu-Jitsu could deal with it easily.
This is amazing, signing up at a Gracie University 30 minutes from my house.
These guys are great teachers
It doesn't matter who's the first, second,or third...it's about increase your ground fighting skill
Thank you Gracies
Ryron and Rener have another video on just that very question! Put in RUclips search bar:QCFbtnZQncg Or put in the search bar: Blocking punches from the mount. It is the first Jiu-Jitsu related video you see. It cover actually what to do if the person spreads their arms out wide when they are mounting you!
superb mind blowing
Esses caras são d+, valeu pela video aula.
Argghhh...I wish I had seen this earlier. I had a 250lb guy get me in the mount and I was squirming to try and buck him off, but I couldn't do it. This is what I need to do.
Be prepare for your next opponent !!!!
ThisSentenceIsFalse actually you should train bjj
This is actually more like my experience through many years with Shotokan Karate. Basics, basics, basics. Without that foundation you can't adequately build. And in the end, basics are likely all you need. For what it's worth, at my age I have less than zero interest in anything but self defense; with Jiu Jitsu or Karate.
you guys are awesome this stuff is so awesome and really useful means alot to me that you would give this info away free. sure wish i could get the full dvd set and one day train in person with you guys
What I meant was they show a different Trap and Roll technique for escaping the mount when the opponent is throwing punches.
I just want to know why they changed it this way.
Unless the person on top wants their face ramming the ground... they will post. Like Rener said, It's instinctive. And your face wont get smashed because you are shielding it with your shoulder, it will never touch. Actually rolling to the side opposite your head will probably end up driving your face into the ground b/c of the rolling motion... the closeness is the key. You train this on a mat but this could happen on concrete... this combatives and it's about survival, not being unscathed.
Love it
Master Rener is brilliant
Ryron and Rener,
I've tried do do this technique (which is great!), but have a serious question about one little detail of it. What if the attacker spreads his arms really wide open and really stretched/stiff? It becomes very hard to trap his arm to do the roll. Should I just wait for the guy to move the arm (wait for him to try to punch me, for example), or are there other alternatives to "break his arm stiffness"?
Thank you guys. Beautiful work.
Got the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Street Self Defense DVD.
In the bonus Ryron and Rener teach a different way to defend punches from the mount.
Why was this way chosen for Combatives?
ECJ49 different ways. Same principle
@chickenshieee thats why you hold your elbows at your sides! Watch the first part before criticizing it.
Like the man said ' unless you're sleeping in the beach' you should see the mount coming. If you know what's coming put your elbows at your sides and hold them there.
thanks for the video
I really want too get the set of 📀
This is mount escape, trap and roll. The punch defense is different
@barrettokarate perhaps, but they already have sample videos!
Nice
Nice 👍
@takidabossen Business 101! They're giving free access to Lesson 1 because they want to give people a sample of what they have to offer. Once people are hooked, they'll want more videos and will have to pay up. Basic supply and demand.
now I can protect my cookies.
What if he's sitting on your chest or abdomen, so you can't sit up?
what you want MORE for free?? lol
Bed Head
can i use it in grapling match?
unless they counter it sure why not?
4:32 was that a meme or just autotune?
these boys are so obviously brothers
2:23 다리 봉쇄시 손뻗어 탈출
perfect ,bros.
Why aren't those guys actors? Imagine a movie with jiu jitsu being used for self-defense! That would be awesome!
This is Sanchin.
Are you saying it's literally sanchin bunkai or just that the principles are the same?
what if you sit too high on his chest and he cannot lift his back?
He said punch like it was a forbidden word
Jesus saves. Love you guys.
4:44 solo drill
Hi Freddie Lee
Unfortunately, most mma fighters don't know this because they train bjj. Bjj is sport. Gracie jiujitsu specializes in self defense grappling for fights. Every mma fighter needs to pursue Gracie jiujitsu to be truly fight ready.
Thanks Dana
What if any bigger and stronger person falls on a much weaker opponent such that the bigger persons legs are on his opponents leg.So that the weaker person cant move his hand and moreover the person on the back wholebody is under hi opponent and cnt move any part of the body. Now the bigger person can easily punch and the bottom person cnt defence as his hands r trapped under the bigger person
+Souvik Roy choudhury you figured out the riddle and mastered fighting strategy, see the receptionist on your way out to pick up your prize cookie!
maybe he can squirm out the back door. but i think thats what the yank north is for.
If the attacker spreads his arms wide, you could go for the elbow escape.......
i'd rather sweep them than escape personally. less work, more control.
1:10 wouldn't that smash the back of the head of the bottom guy if the top guy didn't post his arms out. There is a difference between wresting on concrete and on a matt. First rule is to stop the punches is by controlling the arms i most cases.Roll in the direction where your face can get smashed??? Can't we rollin the other direction???
Press 2 over and over for an X rated version..lolol I love these guys but had to do it!!
I want to learn Jiu Jitsu
watch some videos. :)
Kyne Chan go to a gym
But why is the logo on the t-shirt in the middle?
design?
paranoid survive but it would look better on either of the sides
To show when wearing a Gi top
Gracie academy ! why do you upload the gracie combatives on youtube for free access????
What are you going to do against my Mighty Thor Thunder Punch from the Pitts of Hell? What are you going to do against my Flying Spinning Upside down Tornado Kick to your head? What are you going to do against my Iron Hand Super Fly Pimp Slap from the Hood? Yeah, what you gonna do?
Probably trap and roll lmfao
:)
Ryron wanted a kiss at 4:07
Gracie Academy is amazing.....but the one in my country is ran like shit
how it is street readiness without StandUp. i see to many of you guys get Knocked Out. can you do a video of what to do if you cant take the person down, its a reality you know. dont be Cocky and think its NO. Rickson was a master of the Takedown i love and respect him. the rest of you gracie seem are living off the name. the UFC has not seen a Gracie in a long while. Reason No STAND UP
lol hater
True, but what about Brian Ortega.
1:50 & in real world the attacker is going to take a bite out of your face.
If you are slow af and he has 20 seconds to think about what to do, maybe.
Otherwise he is more like: "I am going to punch this mother.... what is he.......Jeeez, let go off my.......how is he rolling over to.........fuck this shit!"
First.
second
Since punching is not the only attack an experienced streetfighter will use and this technique fails to defend the head from them, it sucks, just like most BJJ for self-defence. Pulling the bad guy on top's shoulder into your head is a defence? Neck crank incoming. Gouging, ripping etc. This non-defence just gives it up.
Not very hetero…
