2021 and still can't stop watching his amazing Legendary goals!!!!Only One Legend can kick like this he is Robert Carlos!!!The Goal from 0' percent baseline is the biggest
Exactly my thought too. In fact, the defenders must be hoping that his kick doesn't crash into the wall. They would rather be hoping for it to miss them and must be thinking, it's perfectly OK for it to go in the back of the net...lol
when you have one of the best keepers in the fucking world, Fabien Barthez, just watching your free kick goal in awe, you know you just wrote history...
A free kick by R.Carlos was like a missile shot in full speed. No one dares to block a shot by the cannonball kid. I think the ball itself is afraid of him lol.
In Brazil one player in 50th scored a goal called " bicycle goal" ( I dont know How translated in Europe), but when He created that movement the referee said that "It was ilegal because He never has seen something like that..." and the goal was not valid. His name Leônidas, by São Paulo.
#1 was just 20 yrs ago (June 3, 1997). What I loved most about it was the chap behind the goal line, some 5 yards or more to the left of the post, trying to duck to avoid the ball... ;-) .
I mean, the fact that a player scored 10 free kicks in his career is still impressive, but the fact that every free kick Roberto Carlo shown on this lists’ trajectory and power is unbelievable is the key point. The last one is still one of the best (because maybe CR7’s one vs Arsenal in 2004 might be one of the best too), and that just shows how remarkable of a player Roberto Carlos was back then. Still gives me chills when I imagine I was the GK for the last one. The G.O.A.T at right back.
I watched that one at the stadium, '95 Libertadores Cup, Palmeiras 3 x 2 Gremio. Me and a whole bunch of Palmeiras fans just began laughing. That goal was just ... FUNNY
i heard the commentary when he used to go for the free kick, "it would be just less than a second. a blur for the goal keeper before the ball hits the net, when roberto carlos hits it"
R.Carlos never intended his free kicks to be scored by a header or tap in...he rocketed them in by himself regardless of distance from the goal. Legendary GOAT of free kicksl!
Holy shit this man's free kicks where inhumane he kicked the shit out off the ball not even the best goalkeeper in the world couldn't stop it he was a beast of free kicks he would have given messi a run for his money if he was still playing no goalkeeper was safe when roberto carlos was taking free kick like that omg!!!!!!!
...er, how do you figure that? Looking at major silverware Maldini has won 7 serie A titles while Roberto Carlos has won 6 league titles (and 2 of those were in Brazil which, whilst a decent league, is certainly not at as high a level as the Italian or Spanish leagues. For the majority of Maldini's career the Italian league was unquestionably the best in the world). Maldini won the European Cup/Champions League 5 times while RC 'only' won 3. RC won the World Cup once and the Copa America twice (Italy 'only' managed runner up places once each for the WC and Euros -which are far more competitive than the Copa America). Technically that makes them equal on major silverware with 12 each but Maldini's are more consistently at the very highest level. Silverware is a terrible way to judge players by anyway. Cafu played for Roma for years and for most of that time they were no-hopers. Roberto Carlos was a great attacking player but an unpredictable and unreliable defender. If he got back in time he could do a good job but that could be a big if sometimes. Maldini (and Cafu) were far better readers of the game and much more reliable defensively (and they were superb in attack as well). To be honest we shouldn't really be having this conversation since Maldini's middle name is virtually 'the best left back ever'. There's plenty of debates you can have in football about who is the best but this one should be pretty sewn up. Maldini was peerless in his prime and RC was far too unreliable defensively to be a serious contender.
that's true. However, they both won is just that I think that roberto carlos had better quality, (not to disrespect maldini), if you think about it. it is more difficult to replace a roberto carlos than a maldini
I would have to disagree -Maldini was a fabulously gifted player. Truth be told he's the only player that I'm sure could have played in any outfield position and been world class in it (Ruud Gullit could maybe have done that but Maldini for sure). As far as being replaceable? In Maldini's heyday in the late 80s and 90s you could just forget getting anything out of your right hand side if he was playing against you. Try somewhere else. By contrast teams would fancy RC to push up too far from time to time and leave them room to play in and provide opportunities. Both of them would give you plenty going forward. So, yes, RC was an 'irreplaceable' talent but the total domination of the position you got with Maldini such that opponents actually expected to be shut out on that flank is something I've literally never seen with any other player.
There was no way Brazil would lose the champion to France in 98. That was the greatest football team of all time. I think some thing extremely fishy happened before the final.
The days when players did anything for their country. Pride to play for your nation and world club was way bigger than club football. What great teams as had back then!
