50lbs is great with a Co-Poly string. I never string any higher. Also think about stringing a couple of lbs lower in the Winter months as the strings don't have as much elasticity in the colder temperatures.
A heavier head-light frame can also help with TE. Also, ProKennex frames do help with TE. I have a KiQ+5Pro with weight at 3&9, and string poly at 48 lbs. Good video.

I think the biggest problem with polys is that they loose tension ab elasticity so quickly. I recently had my rackets strung alu power rough 1.25 game 1 very stiff a week later perfect, week 2,3 still good. Week 4 dead on blocked returns a little pain after match. Swapped to my number 2 racket at week 4 that was dead to. As a recreational player the deteriarion and string maintenance is far to fast and you end up quickly playing with strings that are deadening and loosing tension. Here’s the thing though the kids of elasticity is disguised by the loss of tension. I’m now using stringster and after my second set of alu power rough and seeing how fast the string looses elasticity and tension is alarming. I’m off to try multis as a club player the string tension consistency is important for me to improve my game. Running a hybrid masks this problem and you could have a hybrid , multi retaining tension at 95% and the poly at 50 to 60% after a month. If you don’t check your polys the frame will suffer.
It depends also on the racket. A Wilson Pro Staff 95 can't have the same tension as a Babolat Pure Storm 98. A friend of mine (big flat hitter) had elbow problems until I started stringing his rackets. I put 40-42 lbs (mains poly, crosses sinthetic) on the Wilson and 48-50 on the Babolat. He forgot about the elbow and is very happy with the results. He says the Wilson is now awesome (before the change, at 55 lbs he said it was unplayable).
I tell my customer poly can cause tennis elbow, because I've tried many nice way to tell them it's not the string, it's your technique, I get shit on almost Everytime. I gave up.
@@ldeue4837 recreative players are not professionals so it's completely normal to not have perfect technique. So if stiff rackets + stiff strings combo gives people that don't have perfect technique tennis elbow they shouldn't be on the market or at least come with a warning label
@@Edkey It has nothing to do with causing "tennis elbow". You cause your own tennis elbow by not using leverage in the swing. Anyone can hit a ball out in front of them, that doesn't mean they have perfect technique. You get tennis elbow because you are using an arm-dependent swing or you are hitting the ball late, end of story.
@@ldeue4837 so when people switch to a different string and tennis elbow goes away immediately what do you blame it on? Plenty of people especially over 40 make a string switch and all of a sudden have no issues.
I have used pro hurricane and rpm blast for 15 yrs and finally got tennis elbow 7 yrs ago so I had to quit playing tennis. I'm 50 now and back in the game. Oici Two that’s correct, I string the crosses of synthetic gut at 57 because it is a more powerful string, so 2 pounds of more tension adds the control on the crosses without sacrificing feel.
@@jasong2245 i always knew never crosses lbs higher than mains. Neither with natural gut in the crosses. This can cause racquet and arm problems. try asking an expert.
Full bed of Big Banger at 56lbs on roddick pure drive for 5 years killed my elbow (because I did not know better in early 2000's, I did not restring until poly broke), elbow has never been the same since. Tier One Ghost Wire 19g, which is as soft as a multi, is the only poly I can use now. I prefer the feeling of a stiffer frame (around 65).
I used to think that ALU Power did not actually contain aluminum, but then I read this on a website: "The composition is a copolymer with fluocarbon resin and aluminum fibers". Really? Aluminum fibers?.... How do they make fibers from a metal?
great vid- Yes poli or i call it wire- What i like to do is get 12 inches of poli and 12 inches of multifilament and let the customer feel the diffence. but for tennis elbow? yes less tension, or softer strings!!!! but what i really say is you have to make sure you hit the ball in the middle of the racket.so watch the ball better at impact. any ball hitting off center puts a lot of twist/torgue on the racket and into your elbow
What is the difference between string it loose (let's say 40 lbs.) vs. stringing it at 50 lbs. and letting it lose tension over time to eventually be about 40 lbs?
I think the difference is the pros can have it strung for every match so their tension will never drop too low where as normal people will end up with too low of tension if strung too low. For that reason I do low 50s and let it drop to 40s in a few hours of hitting. By then the life of the string is half way done anyways. IMO just depends on what ideal tension u like to hit with and consider the drop when u string it...
The clash has one of the most flexible frames on the market. Put it on your counter and press down on the throat. It will bend like a David Beckham free kick.
If you’re not Atleast a 4.5 ntrp, you have no need for poly. It will hurt your game more than it will help. You need Long fast strokes for poly mains to help your strokes. If you don’t have long fast strokes, you will play much better tennis with synthetic mains and even a full bed synthetic and it will have exceptional control.
Copoly is not made of small strands of poly filament, it's the additives they add to the materials. I don't know of any polyester multiflaments only monofilaments.
Hurt my shoulder in college (nearly tore my rotator cuff), but refused to move away from polyester so I changed from a prestige pro to a pure strike tour and haven't had shoulder pain since. If you have arm pain/tennis elbow, change you racquet first.
Dude you played college tennis, this guy is talking to 3.0s and 3.5s....... I always recommend to shop for a racquet line you getting married! Then you shop strings and once you happy you don't freaking change! But full bed of poly is stupid, hybrid is so much better!
I think that combination of high tension + flexible frame = dead elbow I played with wilson kfactor 90 tour ( federer stick ).... Flexible frame with small head size. Every time i put strings higher tension than 24 , my elbow start to hurt... i played with alu power, black widow, some hybrids etc etc After i lowered tension to 21 or 22, evwrything went ok. Hm... maybe we all react different, but for me, lowering tension on flexible frame was ok desicion. Now, i play with RF97 v11- black I had little issues with my upper arm over elbow ( maybe issu with muscle .) when i was playing with luxilon alu power on 27/25kgs After i switched to AluPowerRough never had any arm issues.... Hm, maybe its about stiffnes of the strings, but about tension too.... Now i play again with AluPower and no single issue... i think that its about strenght of your arm and that you must get used to that stiff strings so your body addopt new conditions of playing... I played ChampionChoice too ( gut mains/ lux crosses )27/25kgs Great hybrid.... little stiff first two days...
I used to get tennis elbow all the time. I solved this problem by buying a racket that has 2 dampeners in the handle. Yes, it's the 13 Volkl V1 Classic.
superb channel!!! please give a few words to the old but still alive kevlar and about synths (combinations of them) around here, in the poorer countries if we look for a weekly or quincenal stringing, we must run into those better than old stiff polys
In reference to the older lady.... I use volkl cyclone tour@18g/multifil@17g hybrid in general, the other day i bought another racquet that i use and it came with a full bed poly, i think some silver lxn, and boy let me tell you, i couldn't last through the warm up i hated that racket so bad. It was stiff, unresponsive, no pop, probably the strings could have been dead, but it was awful. I don't know how people can play with that shit. I strongly recommend hybrids, or full bed of multifills, so much better
Can using "old strings" left in reel for years cause a problem? Went to a cheap stringer who carried and used 16G Hyper G - likely leftover product. I requested 17L/18 but he didn't carry any other gauges. After a month I had tennis elbow and a bad shoulder...never had a problem with Hyper G before
What causes tennis elbow is the combination stiff poly + high tension + stiff frame. A poly strung < 50lbs in a frame that's < 65 RA should be manageable for most people without causing TE. Some of the best racquets for that are the ones Tennis Spin won't carry, i.e. Prince.
The stringbed gets looser as you play, so how do old 'dead' strings at a much lower tension compare to a new 'elastic' stringbed in terms of force applied to your arm? It seems less force is required to generate the same ball speed for the old set, ie you can swing slower and get the same ball speed. Where is that extra energy coming from? Presumably from the elasticity of the strings, and so I'm going to guess that less energy is transferred to your arm when using an old set of strings that have become loose compared to a fresh, tight stringbed. I agree that more elastic strings will help, but is it relevant when comparing stringbeds that are at a difference of say 10 lbs? What is tension loss of a stringbed at the point it is deemed 'dead', 20%?
In 2014 I strung 2 Wilson's with Toalson Cyber Tour 17 he never came back to me today 2022 I saw him Still playing with same strings Poly does not break and I am out of business what is your advice ?
I put ALU Power on my Prestige Pro at 50lbs and my arm hurts after 2 hours of hard hitting. Need to ice it afterwards but the pain goes away the next day.
How long does the strings last on the reel? Do they get damaged by the time they are stored? I mean if I bought a reel 3 years ago, do the strings keep their properties as a brand new one?
Lynx is a fairly soft string, especially compared to Alu Power, RPM Blast etc. The racquet and string pattern also makes a huge difference to what tension works.

I tried the Wilson NXT Soft 16 and they were ok, but they broke not even a week in. So I switched back to the Tencnifibre Black code 17 and they last me about 3 - 4 weeks. Thats the reason why I use the Black Code. Although my right shoulder hurts from them, I at least get to play longer with them and hence wise save money. Which strings do you think I should use? Are dead poly strings supposed to be more powerful or less powerful? I feel like when my strings go dead I don't get power, but shouldn't lower tension = MORE power?
I played an average of an hour and half every day, 6 days a week for about 8 years of my childhood, never thought about string type and tension, but once.... got used ot one string and tension, and kept it that. Pick a string, any string, and there's a 95% chance you'll be just fine. All the RUclips videos and online chatter are about hte 5%.
Bottom line, poly will get you more spin at the cost of your wrist elbow shoulder, regardless of how you string it. Gut or technifibre strings are easy on your arm. Unless you are on the pro tour stay away from poly or copoly if you value your appendage. Case closed end of story.

In terms optimal performance, Poly are totally different than synthetic gut or Multi-fulminent. I believe the best performance of synthetic gut is fresh off the stringer whereas poly plays best around the 4th hour about 10th hour (or up until they break). @@K4R3N Yes. In my level, fast game equals loads of mis-hits.
Clash with ALU Power Rough at 52lbs is perfect. No arm pain at all.
I tell my customer poly can cause tennis elbow, because I've tried many nice way to tell them it's not the string, it's your technique, I get shit on almost Everytime. I gave up.
I'm so sick of people blaming the rackets and strings for tennis elbow...
@@tallcatshortdog I've played with some of the toughest string for 25+ years and I'm 5 9 150 lbs.
I have used pro hurricane and rpm blast for 15 yrs and finally got tennis elbow 7 yrs ago so I had to quit playing tennis. I'm 50 now and back in the game. I use multi filament string now and they are just amazing on my arm. I still string at 55lb of tension. I wish someone told me about poly's and how they'd kill my elbow.
Mostly technique. Unless you're a fit 4.5, 5.5 blasting balls training all week, your sore arm is mostly technique.
Thank you for your advice. Next time I’ll try to string at 21 Kg.
Thanks for the great video. I recently suffered serious wrist and elbow pain from a full bed of solinco confidential. I have moved back to my preferred hybrid of Luxilon 4G Rough mains at 55lbs crossed with synthetic gut at 57lbs. Provides amazing feel, great pocketing and lively playability.
Crossed 57 and mains 55 ?
How do they make fibers from a metal?
great vid- Yes poli or i call it wire- What i like to do is get 12 inches of poli and 12 inches of multifilament and let the customer feel the diffence. but for tennis elbow? yes less tension, or
softer strings!!!! but what i really say is you have to make sure you hit the ball in the middle of the racket.so watch the ball better at impact. any ball hitting off center puts a lot of twist/torgue on the racket and into your elbow
What is the difference between string it loose (let's say 40 lbs.) vs. stringing it at 50 lbs. and letting it lose tension over time to eventually be about 40 lbs?
The 40 pound one will still have tension loss and end up in the mid 30’s
I think the difference is the pros can have it strung for every match so their tension will never drop too low where as normal people will end up with too low of tension if strung too low. For that reason I do low 50s and let it drop to 40s in a few hours of hitting. By then the life of the string is half way done anyways. IMO just depends on what ideal tension u like to hit with and consider the drop when u string it...
65 pound poly would feel like playing tennis with a chopping board . Zero spin. I know cuz I did it
😂😂
I used to get tennis elbow with my head extreme, then switched over to my clash 100 with the same string and no pains anymore!
The clash has one of the most flexible frames on the market. Put it on your counter and press down on the throat. It will bend like a David Beckham free kick.
So it's not the strings but rather the racquet. So are we getting wrong info on strings here.
6.12 Jack Sock 30 lbs? wow
I hit with 16g kevlar/lux 4g at 86/86 lbs no arm issues. Its a 110” so it helps
I love Pro Hurricane Tour!
I think that combination of high tension + flexible frame = dead elbow
I played with wilson kfactor 90 tour ( federer stick )....
Flexible frame with small head size.
Every time i put strings higher tension than 24 , my elbow start to hurt... i played with alu power, black widow, some hybrids etc etc
After i lowered tension to 21 or 22, evwrything went ok.
Hm... maybe we all react different, but for me, lowering tension on flexible frame was ok desicion.
Now, i play with RF97 v11- black
I had little issues with my upper arm over elbow ( maybe issu with muscle .) when i was playing with luxilon alu power on 27/25kgs
After i switched to AluPowerRough never had any arm issues....
Hm, maybe its about stiffnes of the strings, but about tension too....
Now i play again with AluPower and no single issue... i think that its about strenght of your arm and that you must get used to that stiff strings so your body addopt new conditions of playing...
I played ChampionChoice too ( gut mains/ lux crosses )27/25kgs
Great hybrid.... little stiff first two days...
If you don’t have long fast strokes and decent technique you should definitely stay away from poly
If it's super cheap it's more poly... the more expensive and elbow friendly are co-poly
Reckon you could do what you did to the prostaff 97 and obliterate a pure strike 98, curious to the insides.
Even a cheap ass synthetic gut will feel
Bette than any poly
Great advice. Thanks!
Can using "old strings" left in reel for years cause a problem?
Went to a cheap stringer who carried and used 16G Hyper G - likely leftover product. I requested 17L/18 but he didn't carry any other gauges. After a month I had tennis elbow and a bad shoulder...never had a problem with Hyper G before
4:50 I didn't know this was an ASMR video.
To get rid of tennis elbow I eventually had to get a racket that has a dampener inside the handle
What causes tennis elbow is the combination stiff poly + high tension + stiff frame. A poly strung < 50lbs in a frame that's < 65 RA should be manageable for most people without causing TE. Some of the best racquets for that are the ones Tennis Spin won't carry, i.e. Prince.
The LUXILON 4G with 55lbs pound make me have tennis elbow for the first time
And Now I use babolat rpm power at 54lbs are so soft
If they aren't tensioned then yes
it depends on where it stayed in these 3 years
IF stored in a cool place out and of the sunlight the reel of string should last indefinetely.
I use head lynx strings. I tried 55 lb and 50 lb. 55 lb makes my arm hurt while 50 lb feels more comfortable in the hand. Next I will try 48 lb.
Lynx is a fairly soft string, especially compared to Alu Power, RPM Blast etc. The racquet and string pattern also makes a huge difference to what tension works.
I use rpm blast on my pure drive team, but I feel no effects of tennis elbow.
It must be really cold in your shop!!! It can be seen on your shirt every vlog you make.
“Welcome to Tennis Nips where put our nips on your tennis” LOLL, love the content thank you for all the info! 😂❤️🤙🏽

Hi love ur channel. Very good and useful info. Can you pls do a review or give me ur opinion on Wilson revolve spin strings?
Hey Tennis Spin, I have a question about which strings should I use. Right now, I use a tecnifibre black code 17 on a Wilson Ultra 100 L 3.0. I normally string my rackets with a tension of 23.5kg(51.81pb) and I'm 15 years old, I play quite competitively/ train everyday of the week for 2 hours. Can't wait for you to respond to my comment! Love the vids and stay safe!
Syn gut and multi have better feel and are easier on the arm.
Grammar fail!! Should be: "Do polyester strings cause...". Please amend and update ASAP. Thanks.
Thank you!
Can you make a Weiss Canon Ultra Cable review? Thank you. I already bought it to try it out but I want to hear your opinion.
i just put it on my pure aero at 53 lbs few days ago. i should have lowered the tension.. it has less power compared to my hyper G 1.20mm.. if i do big swing , spin is good. but as i said, the tension is too high for this sting. so i am gonna cut tmr.

@@eo1798 if i need to restring this, i will string mine around 47. but today i changed it to volkl cyclone 1.20mm at 46lbs. i can't wait to try and compare
denny I string my pure aero with Babolat Blast 15L at 52.
Are dead poly strings supposed to be more powerful or less powerful? I feel like when my strings go dead I don't get power, but shouldn't lower tension = MORE power?
What do you think about Dunlop Synthetic S-Gut 16 String 45 lbs on Wilson Clash Tour? Would you try to see? Tks
I like the poly tour pro
Yeah, these full poly's should be down in the low 50s, high 40s
What does per stretching mean and how do you do it, if necessary, when stringing a racket? Do you prestretch?
Most newer stringers pre-stretch the string as you string the racket.
I played an average of an hour and half every day, 6 days a week for about 8 years of my childhood, never thought about string type and tension, but once.... got used ot one string and tension, and kept it that. People say they love a string and tension... why? Because they're used to it. That's 95% of it. The other 5% is stuff like --- I'm tired of breaking my strings all the time, or it's too expensive, or it's giving me tennis elbow.
I string my Head Microgel OS with Big Banger Alu Power Rough at 60 pounds and don't have issues with tennis elbow. Been using different types of Big Banger strings for years and never had issues with tennis elbow.
What about Head Hawk
do I have to keep my pyjama for 3 months too ?
How much do you charge for an average string job?
When you talk about strings hold tension for x amount of hrs. Is that hrs of play or after its been strung?
It's after play, however the moment the racquet comes off the stringer they've typically lost a little tension.
I am 43 and using alu power 16 very soft on elbow and I have them strung at 62 and have know problems. As long as it's not kevlar the newer polys are softer and more precise to aim your shots.Of course you have to be fit in your life but there are still soft.
Polys are stiff. String them at a low tension. A lot of tennis stores are selling them but polys are really for advance players that swing fast and have advanced technique.
How about co-poly?
@@belajarinternet7134 Low tension. Polys are popular for PROFESSIONALS. Tennis Warehouse playtesters think some players would be better off with low power syn gut. Jim Courier used Gosen syn gut for example. The average tennis player is nowhere near a pro or college level player. I know people want to be like a pro but just because you like a F1 car, it doesn't mean it would make a good car for you. An advance player that is 5.0 and up is the customer for poly. So they have been around for some time. I first heard of them in 2010. I was late on this. When I strung the racquet at the tennis shop the girl asked if I want Poly, Multi, Synthetic or Gut. I was like "Poly?" Also Multi I had no idea. Prior to that I was just using Synthetic or Gut, so Multi was a mystery to me too. Love Gut and some Multi. Cheapo Synthetic is no bueno. No good. Multi is so much better than Synthetic. Poly no good also. Feeling of those I don't care for plus my arm doesn't like them.
What if you put it in an oversized racquet like the PCG 107 that has a higher recommended tension range?
You can go to higher tension with larger head size.
review ashaway kevlar string please haha
How about multifilament string? I have one sitting on one of my older rackets without using it for almost 2 years. It doesn't sound to me that it lost all its tension when hitting it. Can I still use it without causing any arm issues?
Yes.
In terms optimal performance, Poly are totally different than synthetic gut or Multi-fulminent. I believe the best performance of synthetic gut is fresh off the stringer whereas poly plays best around the 4th hour about 10th hour (or up until they break).
I really hate poly right off the machine as I can’t really hit anything...and need to put sooooo much more on the ball.
