    Plasma cutter: Try dropping the air pressure down until it stops popping, make sure your ground is good and lastly put a inline drier/filter. Should fix the issue

      Hello John. I am Jacob Cichy im a big fan and i was showing my moms boyfriend the pt 4 of the chopper build (first road test) and i heard you mention something about wanting and old honda bobber?. I have a 1982 honda cm250. I do have the title, It runs but does not have a gas tank. I cant find one anywhere i figured you are the guy who would know how to weld one up and get this bike on the road again! Id love to see it on the channel let me know if you are interested. I love how all this small scale hot rodding stuff would translate over to full size cars no problem. The great part is how cheaply you can work on stuff this size. You can learn to do everything without spending a fortune. Then some day have the skill to do something full sized without having to learn the expensive way.

    To judge the welding i will call it a draw because ike has the proper width but the beads are sorta jerky looking, john has nice smooth rolling beads but the weld is a little narrow and rounded which means the weld didnt penetrate quite as deep but both welds looks like they wont go anywhere anytime soon so both a good job, now put down the easy welder and pick up a SMAW stick welder and see what you really got lol

  • @GaragebandandBeyond
    @GaragebandandBeyond 6 лет назад +1

    Ike's welds were the proper color. You both had nice even coverage, but one of those jobs looked a little bit over heated. Hint hint, it's the one that looked more blueish . But it's hard to say, because that could have been due to lighting or color correction. Ike's looked a little beefier as well.

    Like the project, but you guys need to have another look at that steering geometry. You've got a big dose of anti-ackerman at the moment, and it will tend to understeer a like a pig without a lot of lateral load transfer. I'm sure the v twin will have enough grunt to get oversteer, but will be way more fun in the slow corners if done better. Good luck!

    Am I the only one that noticed they cut way too much off the frame?
    Then Ike stands on it and says "did I just bend it?" * rolls eyes *
    You should reinforce where you cut the huge holes / U shaped channels or you might have problems with it twisting and breaking when its up an running...

    • @CarsandCameras
      @CarsandCameras  6 лет назад

      There isn't any weight on that part of the frame, and we end up X bracing underneath as well.

    Both welds (would have) worked, Ike's is a Sunday go to meeting weld, Johns is a get it done nobody will see it weld... Many good points raised, study your geometries and what has to happen, it could save your butt, I know this thing will probably spend more time on its back wheels anyway so maybe outside of turning it around to do another wheelie, handling won't be much of a issue anyway.. (oh God why do I have a feeling this will be on the Grand Prix, maybe not it'll tear up some serious lawn) lol...... :D

    The turning radius issue isn’t a weight problem, it’s an Ackerman issue. The inside wheel needs to turn tighter than the outside. Good luck!

  • @haugstule
    @haugstule 6 лет назад

    to get the steering right you gotta cut the iron that connects to the rack and pinion from the front axles, it should be angled towards center of the rear axle (oppositely for you, you gotta imagine/calculate as if the rear axle is in the front; since your rack and pinion is on the front side of the axles) do as i say and it will track nicely trough the wasteland, The Great Humungus has spoken!

    • @roguetorino
      @roguetorino 6 лет назад

      Do not calculate it as the axle was in the front, this will induce more anti ackerman like they already have. the steering arm mounting points for a forward mounted rack should be further towards the wheel to stay in line with the rear axle's center point.

  • @jcraigfam1
    @jcraigfam1 6 лет назад +4

    Great video guys it looks like you need to reinforce the front of the frame and also you will need to reinforce the rear of the frame when you install the new axle due to basically the frame is nothing more than glorified sheet metal lol keep up the good work guys

    I think where you cut the big holes in the frame , I would of Stuck a piece of angle iron inside of the frame and also on top of the frame since you are using the front part of the frame to hold your steering unit . You Don't seem to have ALOT of Frame left . you could still add a piece of 1" angle Iron to the top of the frame and take it back about 18" to get more support . Just a thought .
