During my old job overnight shift 10 hours, my dog have her own potty pad. I always replace it before I leave for work. She is doing alright. She sleeps at the most time. She happy to see me and she knew it’s her breakfast time lol

I leave my maltese dog for 7-8hours, 5 days per week. But I also leave him with food, water, he pees on the pad, and of course I always provide toys to play, such as dog puzzles, kong with peanut butter or licking mat.

I cnt seem to win training my maltese to use the pee pads 😢 he only wants to pee outside, so it's difficult for me to go to work, any tips for me?

    • @j.mashalevin

@@thandazangxongwana3845 training definitely requires some time and effort, so don't give up if you want to teach him. I taught him from the first day, when he was very small, this is a big advantage. it's much easier. I don't know how old your Maltese is, but you can try a few things.
In pet stores, there are drops that are supposed to stimulate the dog with their smell to pee where you drip them. But, it didn't work for us, unfortunately.
I took a paper cup with me when we went out, and while he was peeing I caught the urine in the cup and then poured it on the diaper back home, and every time I noticed (at home) that he wanted to pee, I put him on the diaper, and of course he smelled that the urine was already there and went. When he peed the first time, I rewarded him with a treat. Maltese are very smart and they learn quickly. Especially if they are food motivated.
it also helps if you don't take him out at all, for a day or (even better) two days, when you are at home too, and every time he needs to go, you put him on the pee pad, I know it sounds cruel, but it's not, that's the fastest way he'll find out where he can go. Because he will have to go sooner or later.
I hope this helps, and sorry if my English is too bad.

I have 3 huskies, and need to start working full time, I work days and nights, average about 8 or 9 hours. I can't afford most doggy day cares because Id be working just for their daycare. We need more affordable and convenient options, for pet care, so humans and their pets alike, dont end up on the streets.

I was going to adopt a 4 year old dog this Tuesday 2024 but I was thinking as much as I fell in love with him, its not fair for him to come home with me. I work 10 hour days plus 2 hours one hour going and coming back, so 12 hours total. It is not fair to the dog that I am gone that long, no real good bonding time with my schedule Mon-Thur. So I took my name off the raffle list and my prayer is he goes to a good loving home and gets lots of attention. Maybe one day I will have a dog but its not in the cards right now. Peace

Hello. Im in difficult position because I used to have two dogs (11 years each) living in my parents house which is 5 acres of woods and grass but no other animals. Thing is one of them died and now theres only one left. The house is sometimes empty and you have only one person going from monday to friday to work on the gardens.
I try to go at least 4 times a week (is a 1 hour drive from my apt) but now i have to travel outside of my country. Im worried about my dog even if shes old and sometimes she just spend the whole day sleeping. I still feel sad that shes not going to see me and that theres going to be days that she will receive short visits. Shes very friendly but at her age shes really chill. We do have other animals around like wild birds, rabbits and neighbor dogs (they bark eachother once in a while).
I guess shes used to that life since shes always been there but I dont know. Im worried :/ . I thought about bringing another dog but my veterinary says that since she haves an autoinmune illness plus the stress of sharing her space with a new dog might do more harm than good. Same with taking her to other place.
    Whats your advice on this?
As i Said, she will see someone at least for an hour each day and she will see someone from monday to friday at least a couple of hours.

Why not talk about the fact that dogs are not solitary animals. They are pack animals. When living as pets, the owner and family are their pack. It can actually be very bad mentally for dogs to be left home alone for more than a few hours a day even with a break in the middle. Sure, food and water and the ability to relieve themselves are important, but so is their mental comfort.
If you live in a situation where your dog is going to be left home alone for more than 5-6 hours a day total, get 2 dogs, a dog walker, a doggy day care or just adopt a cat instead.
