Here is Houston, Corolla Cross Hybrid is $34,875, a 2-year old one --TWO years old... they are asking $34,000. Just got a 2025 Trax LS with various extra features for $23,895.

Yep. I bought a 25 Buick Envista, the Trax's sister. E-85 capability helps a lot financially, especially in CA. Too bad E-85 burns faster though but we can't have everything perfect.
They are mostly regular bulbs. The side parking lights are led but just one and not the full length. There is a fully led unit used on ones in some Asian markets.
My daughters car was t-boned and totaled recently. We found a 2RS with 15K miles for 21K! Very nice vehicle, I have my doubts about the reliability of the "wet" drive belt. Time will tell!
The oil pump on that engine is driven by a belt that's in oil. Not a fan of that, no matter what engineers say. Break that belt and you're buying an engine.
I’ve had mine a year and do love it. Although I’ve had an issue with it recently. The purge pump went out and the part has been on back order due to the large volume that this is occurring in. The warranty is taking care of it though.
It's an excellent deal but I would not exactly call it small in size. And, how many miles will that tiny turbocharged 3-cylinder engine last pulling such a large vehicle? Reportedly, the timing belt will need to be replaced at around 40K miles.
Also this engine isn't new. It has been used in Asia for several years and has a good reputation. I imagine if you thrash it all the time and/or don't do proper maintenance that it will die prematurely but if you take care it should live a good life
Why would engineers not develop an engine that can handle a turbo? It's not like they just go to a scrap yard and just throw a turbo on an engine. My Escape has a tiny little engine with a turbo and has 172k miles with very few problems. What is it with this "3cyl turbo bad" brigade that is on every video? You all just say the same thing which will NEVER persuade anyone to not shop on a budget if they cannot afford a 60k base model Toyota. It's a budget car. Get it through your heads.
I bought my brand new 2024 Trax 1RS in June for MSRP $26,000 CAD ($19,000 USD). There's nothing out there that comes close to beating this value. My wife even said this thing looks better than most SUV on the road. I got 2 kids and there's so much room in the back, we live in the big city, so I much prefer the FWD for gas savings. GM Authority also reported Q2 2024 Trax sales far surpassed all subcompact SUV from any brand by a mile. I would say the only major downside is that half second delay in full stop acceleration, in emergencies, that could be the difference in crashing and avoiding.
One thing I couldn't understand is why GM didn't just put the larger and older 1.5T 4 cylinder engine that they already use in the base model malibu and equinox and just de-tune it if they dont want it to make as much power for the Trax. I dont feel good about a 1.2L 3 cylinder with a "WET" timing belt after 100k miles. Ford already tried a design like that and it was an epic failure.
I drive the Trax's sister, the Buick Envista. My biggest and only complaint so far is that the 3 cyl has worse fuel mileage than my 2016 Ford Escape that has 173,000 miles. Both are Turbo, but it seems to me the reason GM Buick went with an even smaller engine was to make it more fuel efficient. It's not.
Chevy would do well to dump the Trailblazer and upgrade the engine to 4 cylinders in this Trax, with optional AWD. The door armrest is wrong in both the Trailblazer and the Trax, with the Trailblazer even worse with its narrow driver space (pillar in the shoulder) and uncomfortable seating geometry.
Crossover?? It's a wagon! If you don't care that the engine is very under-powered, and if you genuinely don't need AWD; this is a great vehicle to buy! Seriously, it is. Consider getting the base trim LS with the convenience package. Save even more money! Or, buy a stock 1RS. BTW, those are the only trims that give you a traditional gauge cluster.
I bought a 2025 Chevy Trax Activ and the air conditioning broke after 5 days. It's been at the dealer service center for 2 weeks and the part is on backorder with no estimate when one will be available. They said it could be over one month.
In the Northeast; just about every other car you see is a chevy trax. But go to SoCal or Southern Nevada and you mostly see Toyota Corollas, Camrys, 4Runners and Tacomas. In the Rust belt its not going to matter that your car has longevity of a Toyota because it's going to rust away in around 10 years. So you can actually get by with a Chevy or Ford which has a lower initial price. Plus because a lot of the big 3 automakers have had factories in the North for quite some time; people will also go for the chevy
U mean Capra Formentor, which is a Volkswagen group made vehicle so no it’s not based on that. It uses a new platform from GM that is shared so far only with the envista
It’s not as big as you would think. Look at the rear hip room. It’s under 50 inches and there isn’t a headrest for the center seat, meaning you can’t put a car seat in the middle. The best value compact is the 2024 Subaru Impreza. The Impreza fits three car seats across the back. You can’t fit three across in a RAV4. The Sport trim, with rear center console, six speakers, updated infotainment, remote start, keyless entry, fog lights, and great looking 18” alloy wheels can be had for $26,500 OTD. That car will actually run for 20 years and retain its resale value throughout the entire product cycle.
In Japan there are plenty of "KEI" cars with 660c 3 cyl engines that are solid. Hoping this Korean engine is realiable as Japanese 3cyl. The rest of the car looks awesome, not loving the horses but its an entry level car.
Whats an entry level car for you? Americans are weird because ive had like 7. Vehicles in my life and just got this one because it was a good deal, i wouldnt call it an entry car, just a car. Americans are silly af with their way of thinking….
I've been seeing a lot out here in CA, I love the sleek design of it just wish they had offered a coupé/sportback version that would have had a proper turbo or even a hybrid. Chevy's reliability is not worth it not even for its "affordable" price that's just a known fact.
The timing belt is made of Polyurethane and Kevlar., not Ford rubber bands! These belts will outlast any dry belt today! What else don't you like for 25k? The Turbo? The real 6 speed transmission? Or are you a fan of the CVT in most all compacts? For 50k? Good thinking, let Korea build it. Built well unfortunately America! Isn't that a shame?
Be wary of these small engines with turbos. I have a 2020 Chevy Sonic (purchased new in December 2020) with the 1.4 turbo that crapped out at 32,869 miles in April - the wastegate got stuck in a partially open position, necessitating a replacement. Fortunately, the turbocharger was covered under warranty. The rest of the vehicle has been fine.
I had a Chevy Cruze 1.4L 4 cylinder and I was getting a lot of issues after 100,000 miles. It was nickel and diming me! Finally traded it away at 125,000 miles….so I don’t trust the power train to last like the Toyota’s, Subaru’sor Mazda’s do!
@@edschobs5204I had a sonic with the 1.4T and at 120k miles I had to trade it in as it needed some transmission work. That car gave me some PTSD. I'm much happier now with my civic
@@yiyangchengmy 1.4T that I had was great, it was just everything else. I think by the time I was done with that car I had pretty much replaced every single rubber hose because so many ended up leaking coolant. Same thing for any plastic that touched coolant. Brittle cheap stuff that loved to crack and dump coolant on the ground. Now I drive a civic
I'm not a crossover guy, but as those things go this one looks pretty good inside and out and the price is right. Having said that, a tiny 3 cyl turbo seems to be asking for trouble as soon as the warranty runs out. Oh, and the fact it's a Korean design doesn't do much to allay those fears either. Sure they have a bit more experience with small displacement engines than Chevy, but all the Korean makes I know (Hyundai/Kia) are about on the same level as GM/Ford when it comes to reliability. Bottom line for me is this: let's all check back in about 5 years and see how these things age.😉
@@steverugerguy9606 Not that it's unimportant where it's manufactured, but the engineering and design are the utmost importance. Only a few components of modern engines are assembled by hand these days, and even those things are often assisted by "smart tools" that don't allow for humans having a bad day.
Buy a new Mazda CX-5 AWD for a few thousand more that still has the traditional 6 speed auto, no CVT, and with more power. Also a timing chain vs a timing belt! Big no for me.
I'm not sure how reliable that turbo charged three cylinder is going to do hauling around 3,000+lbs over time. I get Chevy's thinking, and I drove one on August, it's nice, but over time? Hmm
@@limitedreach4446 This "Used" car, will be MILES more reliable and lower cost of maintenance and upkeep than this "BRAND NEW" Chevy. @@limitedreach4446 This new car would be LESS reliable and MORE mechanical failures and headaches than a used UX. But hey, each their own. Its not MY money. Lol. Either way, there's a sacrifice.
I doubt they could make it and have it at this price! Labor is high here especially in the auto industry. What is weird is that the engine is made in Mexico, shipped to Korea. They build all the rest and then ship it here. But even with all that shipping the price is low!
A 1.2 liter turbo engine producing 137hp. That is a lot of power out of a tiny 3 cylinder. Sounds like head gaskets and turbos are going to be very problematic with this car. I would get a used 4 or 6 cyclinder over a new turbo 3 cyclinder.

Yikes!
Or you just take care of your vehicle by undercoating it and washing it regularly.
Still doesn't last, salt brine used in PA gets in every crevice. @@DB-os7wl
Kirk, I heard that the Trax is actually based on the Capra Formentor that is not for the North American market
U mean Capra Formentor, which is a Volkswagen group made vehicle so no it’s not based on that. It uses a new platform from GM that is shared so far only with the envista
CUPRA.... It's a division of Volkswagen Group.
This Chevrolet Trax & Buick Invista SUV build in Korea for the USA .
I have a 2RS and i love it.
I agree this car will have more resale value and last longer by the way what is the IIHS rating on this this trax?
My concern is a 3 cylinder engine and wet timing belt. How much will it cost to replace the timing belt?
750.00 is what i heard
the turbo is 1500 but only needs to replaced at 150000
The front and rear indicators are not LED's
Just a fyi
its a great looking car. They need to offer a better engine and it would still sell well.
Is this a GM engine that is new or is it one that might have some reliability history in Korea?
Been in the trailblazer since 2019 or 2020 in the fwd /cvt model.
Made in mexico...(engine)
@@steverugerguy9606 thanks
I've been seeing a lot out here in CA, I love the sleek design of it just wish they had offered a coupé/sportback version that would have had a proper turbo or even a hybrid. Chevy's reliability is not worth it not even for its "affordable" price that's just a known fact.
Hey Kirk will you be testing the new equinox soon?
I rather save up an extra 5 grand and get a 2025 Crv hybrid or 2.0 petrol.
Crv hybrid starts at $34k .
You buy a Corolla cross before this, even the FWD one that doesn’t have a multi link
I just wish it had the in line turbo 4cyl from the cruze for a bit more pep on taking off and passing on the highway.
One of Car & Drover's "10 Best" for 2024
As long as you aren't in a hurry, this is The General's value
Are the older Trax better?
The only thing im not a fan of is the fact that the timing belt is a wet one. Deal breaker for me personally.
Time will tell but Ford gambled with a wet timing belt and lost (ecosport). I wouldn't trust it personally.
3 Cyl is deal breaker for Me.......FWD only is 2nd deal breaker........Turbo is third deal breaker.......Timing belt is No. 4........Paul
So is it okay to take it to the highway?
Yes, it's won't disappoint yourself......
Would a guy thatd driven a Envoy for 20 years be satisfied with this ?
My cousin had a trax and the trans took a crap at 75k miles
What year
@@steverugerguy9606 2018
Did your cousin have proper maintenance done on the trans?
Be wary of these small engines with turbos. I have a 2020 Chevy Sonic (purchased new in December 2020) with the 1.4 turbo that crapped out at 32,869 miles in April - the wastegate got stuck in a partially open position, necessitating a replacement. Fortunately, the turbocharger was covered under warranty. The rest of the vehicle has been fine.
Should be getting my 2025 trax 1LT today
Love it sunroof will be great
Its a drive around car im 41 i dont need speed
You know this channel.
If it’s not Toyota, it doesn’t exist to us.
Bro, that’s a bit extreme ain’t it?😅
Then what are you doing here?
Nice review I don’t think this engine will go beyond 20000 miles
I had a Chevy Cruze 1.4L 4 cylinder and I was getting a lot of issues after 100,000 miles. It was nickel and diming me! Finally traded it away at 125,000 miles….so I don’t trust the power train to last like the Toyota’s, Subaru’sor Mazda’s do!
@@edschobs5204I had a sonic with the 1.4T and at 120k miles I had to trade it in as it needed some transmission work. That car gave me some PTSD. I'm much happier now with my civic
Idk I had very good luck with my 2.0 T in a GMC Terrain so I’m set. Just regular maintenance
Mine did. I have 30k miles on my Trax activ. I drove it to New York, Dallas and North Carolina with no issues.
7500 mile oil change interval? I think not. 5000 max and thats if mostly highway driving.
I like the trax and Buick but that engine is so damn underpowered l.

Engine made in mexico.
@@steverugerguy9606 Not that it's unimportant where it's manufactured, but the engineering and design are the utmost importance. Only a few components of modern engines are assembled by hand these days, and even those things are often assisted by "smart tools" that don't allow for humans having a bad day.
I’d be all about it if it didn’t have that tiny turbo engine. Just doubt it will last long.
Buy a new Mazda CX-5 AWD for a few thousand more that still has the traditional 6 speed auto, no CVT, and with more power. Also a timing chain vs a timing belt! Big no for me.
That Mazda has cylinder deactivation...also problematic in other applications.
People looking at this car don't usually have a "few thousand more" or they'd be looking at other cars.
Not true
Needs a rear light bar
Everybody whinning about the engine. Don't you thing GM has done extinsive research!?
this is what you buy when Kia or Hyundai are just too upscale for you
I’d actually prefer the Chevy over a Hyundai Kia. Hyundai Kia have unnecessary brand hype so they cost more for being worse.
@@mrgurulittle7000Even Hyundai is more reliable than a Chevy.
@@michaelfoulkes9502No way. GM with their four brands has fewer recalls and issues than Hyundai with their three brands.
I'm not sure how reliable that turbo charged three cylinder is going to do hauling around 3,000+lbs over time. I get Chevy's thinking, and I drove one on August, it's nice, but over time? Hmm
1.2 L Turbocharged 3 CYLINDER? 136 hp? 😭 Just buy a used 2018-2020 UX for that price point.
Not everyone wants a used car. This is cheap and it appeals to a budget conscious buyer who wants a NEW car.
1.2T 3 cyl with a WET timing BELT. I'm very curious to see how this vehicle ages... I guess Chevy didn't learn from ford with the ecosport
@@limitedreach4446 This "Used" car, will be MILES more reliable and lower cost of maintenance and upkeep than this "BRAND NEW" Chevy. If your budget is $26k for a new car to begin with, you're going to have to make sacrifices EITHER WAY. Used and good quality and refinement or NEW and trash transmission and electrical systems. So...
@@limitedreach4446Or they can’t get approved on anything new or used other than this.
@@limitedreach4446 This new car would be LESS reliable and MORE mechanical failures and headaches than a used UX. But hey, each their own. Its not MY money. Lol. Either way, there's a sacrifice.

Well done. A Kia with a Chevy logo
Built by GM korea-used to be Daewoo and Alpheon-no affiliation with the Hyundai Kia Group.
Looks gr8.
VIN number = Vehicle Identification Number number
“Nobody brake torques a Trax”… unless it’s a rental 😏
It seems like a good value, but it probably wont when these engines start eating their wet timing belts at 100k.
Can't they make an American car in America?
of course not 😂... its the American way
GM is a global company...
No, the union is bankrupting American car companies.
I doubt they could make it and have it at this price! Labor is high here especially in the auto industry. What is weird is that the engine is made in Mexico, shipped to Korea. They build all the rest and then ship it here. But even with all that shipping the price is low!
No, the union is making it almost impossible. With there salary and benefit demands it's getting very difficult not to use overseas labor.
Chevys Hot Wheels.
No CVT - big plus
A 1.2 liter turbo engine producing 137hp. That is a lot of power out of a tiny 3 cylinder. Sounds like head gaskets and turbos are going to be very problematic with this car. I would get a used 4 or 6 cyclinder over a new turbo 3 cyclinder.
Toyota corolla GR has about 300 hp and its also a 3 cyl turbo
Better than the Jeep.
The engine is assembled in Mexico.
Good car
