Ah...Waking up with the sun in Buckshot Row...Popping by Samwise (my favorite Hobbit, but what's yours?) to say Hullo and perhaps discuss a thing or two about gardening, have breakfast, write a little, have a post-breakfast tea and a snack while writing, look out and see the plains beyond, take a walk, get back and write some more, wonder if the folks find me a little queer for "staying in all day, I reckon you."...
well i kinda imagine bagend though with a vineyard streching down to a lake some fruittree avenues and bag end itself would have some extention with a larger wine cellar back to the north you know .... nothing big
To make an extraordinarily complicated story short- Tolkien always intended for Middle Earth to be a mythology for the United Kingdom, and so pretended that he translated his myriad books from a book called “The Red Book of Westmarch” which was the book that Bilbo- and eventually Frodo- wrote in the story itself recounting their adventures. This, “Concerning Hobbits” is an introduction that Tolkien always pretended to have “added on to” the beginning of “his version” of the book, to explain to us “modern folk” about how this odd race of little people called Hobbits “used to live back then”. It’s a sort of massive meta narrative joke that he used as a framework for his stories.
