    I'm glad you chose to upload even if your harvest wasn't what you were expecting ❤

    I live north of Raleigh and the weather this past week was crazy. I was glad I had my frost cover out because I was also thinking 33-34 and woke up to 27 degrees. I'm glad you shared about your sweet potatoes even if it wasn't as expected because it lets us all learn. And reminds us that sometimes things just don't go as planned.

      It was so crazy!! I definitely was not expecting those low temps. I was out there scrambling to get everything harvested and get potted plants in the greenhouse, and still lost a few. Definitely took me by surprise because I’m usually harvesting peppers into December. Not this year!

    My harvest looked like yours this year. They were still delicious though. I thought they were set back by agroundhog eating all the leaves off, but now I think I should test my soil.

      Definitely test out the soil. I’m like a groundhog and always eat the leaves (lol) and they’ve always been great, except this year!

    Love your videos, Meg! Keep posting your disappointments for all us newbies! I thought it was an adorable harvest!

    Maybe the grapes scooped up a lot of the nutrients. Anyway, the sweet potatoes are cute! And they look delicious. And you are always learning.

      Could’ve been that as well, I also had a Tithonia growing in that bed and it got pretty large. I think it just did too much cramming. I amended the soil really well and used organic fertilizer though, but who knows! Next year I’m going to just give them their own bed where they won’t be bothered by anything else. Lesson learned!

    I cured my sweet potatoes in my basement in a big shallow container on my seed starting heat mat with a wet towel under some wood racks to provide humidity.

    Hey, you got 100% more sweet potatoes than I did! 😂 I’m in ENC and the weather has certainly been insane!!

      Haha that’s why I didn’t want to call it a fail! Sometimes us gardeners get NADA and that’s okay! There is always next year and we live and we learn ❤️

    Question....can the vines be replanted? Of put then in water so they can get some roots?

    • @meggrowsplants
      @meggrowsplants  Год назад +1

      Yes, you can! I just like to either buy slips from the local garden center in June or save a potato to create slips from. But you can certainly grow from stem cuttings. Just have to hold on to them for many many months lol

    Where do you get your slips from?

    • @meggrowsplants
      @meggrowsplants  Год назад

      This year, I got them from Lowe’s. They were a Bonnie Plants 6 pack. Usually I get them from my local garden center, but I was too late to the game and they were sold out this year. They’re pretty easy to make yourself too. I’m just a lazy gardener 🤷🏻‍♀️

      What I use to cure my sweet potatoes is an insulated grocery bag like the ones to keep cool things cool going from the grocery store to home. I leave them in the bag for two to three weeks and then store in cardboard boxes with newspaper until I use them.
