    What Rob originally called the Fermi Paradox is actually called Hawking's Razor, and it has very little to do with the ethical standards of alien races at least directly.
    Hawking's Razor is a statistical distribution of the potential level of technological achievement of an intelligent alien species that the human race encounters. There are three groups of technological achievement: aliens that are less technologically advanced than we are, aliens that are roughly equally advanced as we are, and aliens that are more technologically advanced than we are. Statistically the first and third options are far more probable than the second, Hawking argues that they are more probable to the degree that they render the second option infinitesimally probable, simply because as soon as civilization begins and technological achievement is pursued in an organized and intentional fashion technological advancement not only happens rapidly but enables further technological advancement as it advances.
    Now Hawking's Razor does have indirect implications regarding alien ethical standards in first-encounter scenarios. Alien species that are too divergent in technological advancement may not even recognize each other as intelligent. We humans do not recognize ants or termites as being intelligent despite their remarkable capacity for organization and environmental exploitation. Our species could be as ants are to us to another species. And ants themselves likely do not recognize us as intelligent either, they likely cannot even distinguish between our creations and the natural environment because to them such a distinction is meaningless, it is out of their scope of comprehension. Consequently they have no qualms about infesting our buildings and damaging them, or stealing our food, just as we have no qualms about exterminating entire colonies wholesale. It is certainly advantageous to be in the third category rather than the first, an ant colony might take an entire generation to infest a human home, maybe longer to do significant damage to it. A human with a can of gasoline and a match can destroy most wild ant colonies in a matter of minutes, sometimes people do it for fun. I'm sure many of you have seen the videos of people pouring molten metal into ant colonies and then digging out the metal after it had solidified, revealing an intricate metal structure. Now imagine we encounter a third-category species that decides to make a work of art out of our destruction, such is the hazard of the razor that this scenario is more probable than us encountering a species that we can even recognize as being intelligent.

    Those dogs, however, initially blew up the Russian tanks as they were not trained to deal with moving tanks and gunfire. As a result they just ran back to the Russians, where they blew up.
    Another fun aspect was that the dogs were trained using Russian tanks, so they charged at Russian tanks, not the German tanks.

    Two notes about bell peppers.
    One, while they are all the same species and you can just pick red bells early and sell them as green bells, there are varieties as green bell that never turn red. Before you yell "same species have to come out the same!", remember all dogs are canis lupis familiaris. There can be fairly massive differences in varieties of a single species.
    Two, even if you're dealing with the same variety, ripening is a chemical change in the fruit/vegetable. It changes the flavor. So acting as though you're a pleb for not waiting for your pepper to finish ripening would be like acting as though there's no purpose to drinking green tea. You eat green bells and drink green tea because you're after that flavor profile in that moment rather than how those things taste when fully ripe.

    NL the reason the heisenberg uncertainty principles exists is because particles may not actually be particles. They exist in a wave-particle duality where the particle is a 3-dimensional wave that has higher points of energy where a particle is most likely to appear when it collapses. The exact nature of this is currently unknown but the current physics only represents our best understanding of it. Models don't necessarily correspond to reality they only align to what we have and can observe at the present that have the best fit. For example atoms may be the best scientific model of understanding for most applications but it very well may operate in a completely different manner than we thought. But currently there is no super great reasons to pursue the understanding a great deal more than we do until the idea's become more marketable. When we need to predict something to a very very high degree of certainty there may come the time where a greater understanding is necessary.

    NL I don't want to be rude, but you're a smart dude... what was that crap with the water weight about? Imagine a 1kg weight. Does it matter if you hold it with your hands or on your shoulders? What you're asking is as though you're holding that weight with your stomach. It's still a 1kg weight. As long as it's having an impact on ANY part of your body, that part adds to your total weight (by the 1kg) and in turn impacts the scale. The 1kg weight at no point stops weighing 1kg.

      I would think it would be a little less than 101 kg because of the use of energy to take in the water and stuff. But idk though.

    • @Riskofdisconnect
      @Riskofdisconnect 7 лет назад

      Marflepop That's a good thought, but just using energy doesn't make you weigh less, you have to actually excrete the waste from the energy consumed to have any change in weight.

    • @leahgreene5880
      @leahgreene5880 7 лет назад +5

      Connor Barber There are ways to excrete mass other than peeing and pooping. In fact the majority of weight loss when you lose weight is actually through breathing, with fat being broken down into carbon dioxide and water. That being said, I don't know how much mass you could lose in the short amount of time it would take to chug a liter of water.
