- In a Canadian first, doctors in London, Ont. have performed a robot-assisted direct lateral spine surgery on a patient.
Dave Meyn, the man who underwent this robot-assisted direct lateral spine surgery, didn't think much about being the first patient in Canada. He was just looking for relief from the pain caused by sciatica.
After visiting his family doctor, chiropractors and massage therapists, Meyn ended up at the London Health Sciences Centre for the procedure with the Mazor X Spinal Robot.
Global's Katherine Ward had a chat with Meyn and the surgeon to find out how this technology can benefit patients.

Congratulations Dave! Thank goodness, Neurosurgeons Dr. Yang and Dr. Oppermann moved to London, Ontario a couple of years ago to help establish this ground breaking procedure. Now that the Mazor Robot is up and running, I hope that many others, suffering with lower back pain will have this fantastic robot-assisted spine surgery completed. Well done Dr. Yang and Dr. Oppermann!
Amazing
Life changing tech
Congratulations!
'Carpenter to engineer' sounded strange as they are both skilled but I guess that's the point - the surgeon is the same but the work is more precise
So for those of us who have unbearable back pain to the point where we cannot walk, why has this procedure not been given to us an option? In the ER, I was completely dismissed and told to go home and wait 4-6 weeks. So what do the rest of us have to do to get actual treatment?
wow impressive
WOW!
Great to see such recovery. But, probably best not to overly trust v1 of any software. I would wait for v3 at least.
Incredible, 😊
Good call😊
Talk about throwing the Carpenter under the bus. Lol
Did they find Jagmeet’s spine or is it still missing?
London's healthcare is top notch. It's a shame that our public transportation is a total embarrassment to the tens of thousands of international students we get each year that CRAM into our busses like sardines. It's high time this city gets an LRT system.
That is the point my back is at, but I'm afraid to go through with the surgery. I'm in unbearable back pain. Two blown discs.
Stem cells
Suck it up snd get the surgery. You will never look back . I
Have had two back surgeries and would not be walking without my surgeon in Baja Sur . Best money I ever spent . Thanks Luis.
I wish we had surgery to get our politicians in america to show a spine!!😂
please make more, F*ck Space.
The fact that now we are doing this is idiotic. This tech has been around for a decade 🤦🏻♂️ Canadian health care is great
Buh by doctors, you're not going to comply to truedumb then we're making you obsolite
nooooooo
See, we don't need doctors after all. Thank you Justin for investing in AI technology.
Since he doesn’t have conventional intelligence he needs something to do his thinking for him.
