There is no such thing as Alusil "coating". The term Alusil refers to the alloy which contains unusually high amounts of silicon. The cylinders are honed then etched. The etching process removes the aluminium and exposes the silicon surface. If you still have the block send it to Björn Pieper at Dortmund for honing and etching the cylinders. The pistons can be coated by Picoatec to compensate for the slightly enlarged bore.

A quick search on cylinder (bore) scoring would have found that this is common with Porsche 996/997 engines which also use Alusil coating. There are multiple companies (Hartech in UK) that specialise in cylinder sleeves. Also you didn't say what caused the damage - if root cause is not determined the new sleeves will suffer same fate, only it will take slightly longer...

I’m shocked that the replacement engine, ignition, oil, fuel systems wouldn’t have been thoroughly inspected and tested before installation.

Also if anyone outside of usa/canada is looking to buy a csi, for the love of god don't be an idiot and get the full version that came in the rest of the world with rear steering, diff cooler, oil cooler, sport seats, and the larger 4 piston brakes. The usa version was the castrated version so unless its much cheaper and you are poor, pass on it... this car was so ashamed that it tried to commit suicide apparently twice

Did they keep the 86mm bore? Looks less on the pics, more like a m70 bore. The issue can be a missfire so that unburned fuel and air gets to one lamba sensor. This is measured as lean as only oxygen content is measured. All cylinders then are enritched washing out the cylinders...

    Alligevel noget af ombygning.
Veicomer i Portugal er også ret hårde til at sætte forringer i motorer og laver også en del lækre renoveringer.

Did they keep the modified ECU installed on the 3rd go around? Did they verify that oil delivery was good and not the issue? They don't call out the probable root cause. Is the car still at risk?

The modified ECU is not installed any more.

@@SchmiedmannBMWspecialist Thanks for this data. Has there been any 1000 mile check up, scoping the cylinders, etc... to verify if the ECU was the original cause? Are the Schrick racing cams still in the new engine with the sleeved cylinders?
