La musique africaine traditionnelle, ça n'est pas que des sons mis les uns à la suite des autres pour "faire joli", " ou faire la preuve de sa virtuosité. Elle évoque des couleurs, des récits, des paysages. Elle exprime ce qu'il y a d’indicible dans l'expérience humaine. Elle parle à l'âme, elle transcende.
Il n'y a même pas de mot existant pour décrire ce que l'on ressent quand on entend de telles sonorités juste un parfum de fierté et de nostalgie qui nous recouvre de la tête au pied!

Ce type de musique me donne ce que nous les wolof appelons "Diom" ça veut dire, si on cherche la signification la plus profonde, la capacité de résister à les adversité en continuant à faire nos devoirs.

72 generations in that family of playing the kora. Such an amazing instrument from a gourd. All my family would have done is made pie. Makes one feel pretty damn insignificant.

I had the Honour of attending a workshop with Toumani at Womad festival in the UK over 20 years ago - we sat on the floor in front of him in a gymnasium in Reading Leisure Centre and watched him play and tell stories - a profound experience that changed my musical landscape forever
