José Fernández Torres "Tomatito" nació en Almería el 20 de Agosto de 1958, en el barrio de Pescadería entre una familia gitana de larga tradición musical.
Con 15 años, un día que Camarón de la Isla se encontró sin guitarrista en un festival cercano, alguien sugirió llamar "a ese niño de la Taberna Gitana que tocaba bien las cosas de Paco". Este sería el primer encuentro que Tomatito tendría con José Monge Cruz, en una relación profesional que duró 18 años.
José Fernández Torres "Tomatito" was born in Almería in August 20th of 1958, in "Pescadería" neighborhood, growing at the same time as his gypsy family, with a big musical career.
At fifteenth years old, Camarón de la Isla didn't find a guitarist to perform a play in a nearby festival and he decided to call Tomatito, "that boy who played in the Gypsy Tabern and played very well the music sheets of Paco". That would be the first meeting in which Tomatito began to establish a profesional relationship which lasted for eighteenth years.
