This gave me chills. Just to imagine my ancestors trying to keep positive creating these songs to communicate while working hard blood sweat and tears just to get through the day. And today these songs are timeless. 🎉
How is it that slaves sang all the Israelite songs, well it is because we are the True 12 Tribes of Israel who were scattered to the four corners of the Earth.
I wish people filled with racism and hatred would understand that we cannot changed the ignorance of our past, but we can change the future, with hopes of the world becoming a better place. It has to begin with each of us realizing no one is superior to anyone else, we all live, breath, eat, love, feel pain, and die. No one is exempt. No one deserves superior treatment and no one deserves to be put down and degraded. With that being said, Michael, you have a blessed day and may the peace of the Lord find a place in your heart.
Deuteronomy 1:1 [1]These be the words which Moses spake unto all Israel on this side Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain over against the Red sea, between Paran, and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Dizahab. Deuteronomy 7:6 [6]For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. GOD made us, the so-called Blacks, Hispanics, and Native Americans (actually Israelites) superior to everyone else upon the face of the earth.
@@Damond_Warrior Gospel means good tidings. MY Ancestors sang this with FAITH. Nobody on the planet can sing like MY People but as like the walls of Jericho we can make any song sound any which way. This song of faith is definitely a Gospel song. Though some boneheads wouldn't grasp it.

Our ancestors were so witty, these songs were code messages for freedom fighters coming to free slaves..Underground railroad brilliance. If you take the C off of the word “Chariot”...What do you have??🤔..The song “Wade in the Water” (Wait In the Water) would be if you were to escape and dogs were around, find water to hide in and the dog couldn’t pick up your scent..Masterminds!
This reminded me of the Tongan church that I grew up in. The old ladies in the back could always sang the best. and the rich harmonies and riffs were fun to listen to and were full.
I was reading a book by Martin Walker, where at a funeral in the south of France and American was being remembered. The singer a young lady from New Orleans sang this song. So I had to find it and listen. This version is perfect to what the book tried to share. Well done.
George Vreeland Hill Singing this, busting rocks under that hot Georgia sun on a chaingang. Fuck Georgia and the United States. Fuck em all to hell... and fuck your nation. Since I won my appeal, which had my false conviction thrown out, for all that time in prison, I was basically a slave in the year 2003. Right in the middle of the god damn USA. Fuck everybody who says slavery isn't alive and well in the United States.
PC5032 the justice system here does suck here but there is none better. This country this world was ruined when Adam took a bit of the apple from the tree of knowledge and until this day we are to work by the sweat of our brow until he "Jesus" comes back but he is only coming back for his children. To become a child of God you admit you have sinned against him and your sorry and to plz take over your life.....and to take away all the pain and anger you feel and over time he will because to God of the bible never fails!
Only if you've accepted the love that is in Jesus Christ. My Great Grandmother used to sing this all the time. What a joy it is knowing I'll see her again someday.
When they say chariot they are talking about the Underground Railroad...when they say Jordan they mean the Ohio river they need to cross to get to freedom... when the say band of angels the mean the quakers and abolitionists who run the railroad. This song uses so many code words. This cover was beautiful
Slavery still exists in the world just like it did then. Mauritania didn’t even outlaw selling slaves until the 1980s, and didn’t ban owning them until 2007, then had to do it again in 2015. It’s still rampant there. Look it up.
I remember singing this when I was little. I have no idea where, but it's a song from my chaotic and traumatic childhood that makes Mr comforted by hearing it. I had to pick this version as this are the real ones ❤

Beautiful! I absolutely love the emotion in African American spirituals, and I loved this performance of Swing Low, ladies! It gives me chills knowing that these beautiful songs were sung in praise to God and in hope in Him, despite of the horrible injustice that African Americans had endured. It is so beautiful how respect and reverence were given to God in spite of the suffering, and I know that God will take all our suffering away. When we are with God, there is nothing that could ever compare! God bless you and keep you in Jesus' name! Thank you for sharing this beautiful performance!
