    Revolution X is a shooting gallery video game developed by Midway and released in arcades in 1994. The gameplay is similar to Midway's earlier Terminator 2: Judgment Day, but is themed around the band Aerosmith. The oppressive New Order Nation regime and their leader Helga have abducted Aerosmith, and players use a mounted gun to control onscreen crosshairs and shoot enemies. The members of Aerosmith are hidden throughout the game's international locales and must be found in order to receive the game's true ending.
    The arcade game was a critical and commercial success, but all of the ports were negatively received.

    What is a TAS? ruclips.net/user/Prog61about
    I'm sorry, I had to mute a song (Eat the Rich) because of copyright issue (from 4:29 to 5:52).
    And also I put the ending of the game in another video (Walk This Way).
    To see the end click here: prog61.ca/Revolution%20X%202%20of%202.mp4
    Goal:
    -To show known secrets, to get the 5 wings
    -To avoid getting hit if possible
    - Destroy as many things as I can
    Notes:
    -I use this FAQ to learn the game: www.aerosmithtemple.com/revolution-x-walkthrough
    By looking in the Ram, I learned that:
    ==Energy:
    -The energy bar is at 150 units when full (6 per small rectangle), but you start the game with 187 units.
    -'Extra Energy' gives you 50 units of energy
    -After shooting the cat, I had 287 energy (2 additional energy from the boarded up windows in Club X)
    -At the start of the Chopper chase, I had 385 units of energy (2 additional energy in the first building
    -I started (and finished) the chopper boss with 324 energy.
    -I lost 37 units in "Amazon Jungle", all with the last boss, ending the level with 287.
    -I completed the Bus Chase (Middle East) with 270.
    -In 'Pacific Rim' I lost 33 units in the corridor leading to Brad Whitford (24:20)
    -With 8 Extra Energy at the end of the 'Pacific Rim' I reached 600.
    -I started the last boss with 594 but lost 245 against Helga.
    -And lost 46 against Mondor to end the game with 303 units of energy.
    ==CDs
    -The game does not display more than 999 CDs but internally the game keeps the exact count.
    -I reached over 2800 CDs before 'Pacific Rim' boss.
    -I sent 109 CDs to the boss Chopper, 45 to the bus, 384 to the boss of 'Pacific Rim'
    -At the start of the last boss I had 2370 CDs and finished the game with 1814 CDs, so I fired more than 556 CDs on the last boss.
    ==Shield
    -Works exactly like the energy bar in a separate meter, if not at 0 the energy in the shield goes down instead of the energy bar.
    -The shield gives 30 energy.
    -But it is not cumulative, the maximum value is 30.
    -Even if the message 'SHIELD UP' does not appear when you change section you do not lose it, ex: I had a shield outside Club X and at the beginning of the helicopter stage the shield continues to be effective.
    ==Super Gun
    -When you get a Super Gun, you have 200 shots.
    -This value is not cumulative, maximum 200.
    -A Super Gun shot is almost as effective as a CD. (I don't know if as effective or a little less)
    ==Lazer Discs
    -I could not test to see if it is cumulative or not.
    -When someone shoots you, you will only lose some energy when your part of the screen is hit.
    -Each player as 1/3 of the screen, you can ignore shots to the other 2/3 of the screen.
    -So when playing this game, focus on your side of the screen first.
    -There are some exceptions to this rule. Helga, the helicopter and the lifts hit you wherever they are.

    -At the end of 'Pacific Rim' I got 8 Extra Energy but I had to use rng manipulation for 2 of them (the 3rd and 4th red things on a bench) (27:15).
    -As far as I can see in other videos, the company logo almost always gives you extra energy.
    -Now that I see the video, I see I missed a few points here and there and a girl in Club X (should have worked harder on this one).
    -I tried to fix them but it's not possible to edit a TAS in the middle, it changes the rng then nothing after the edit point works properly.
    -To get the TROG you have to kill the cat (9 shots) then shoot a cd on the tree that you can see over the wall.
    -I'm not sure if the secret in the helicopter chase (7:15) is there if you haven't killed the TROG.
    -To get the secret in the window outside Club X (1:54), you must have killed the cat and not shot that window earlier.
    -In this secret, you have to shoot a CD at the door to go to the restrooms.
    -It seems that if you don't shoot the star on the door at the end of Club X, enemies will spawn endlessly (4:47)
    -On the bus level, I had to stop shooting because the bus exploded before I could get the 4th wings (21:50).
    -For an unknown reason Helga cost me 35 units each time I got hit by her (7 times). I did not see that amount of damage in other videos on RUclips.
    -You have to shoot her when she cartwheel in front of the throne.
    -At least Mondor (the last boss) is easy to do, but very long to TAS.
    -His machine guns inflict damage only in the player part of the screen and it is easy to make him lose the gun (3-4 CDs on the arm).
    -It took me about 50 hours of work to do this video. Hope you like it.

    Back in my middle school days (late 90's), I used to play this game at the TiLT arcade in Lloyd Center in Portland, OR. I played it A LOT. I often poured my entire allowance into it. More recently, I had my 34th birthday a few years back and the local arcade and bar here had it. Not only did I beat it in under $4, but I hit their machines top score.

  •  2 года назад +21

    I hated the Middle East level because of how you need to control your speed to stay with the bus and destroy it before it gets to the end.
    This was very entertaining to watch! [I did continue watching the second part for the ending]
    I can understand muting the audio to avoid copyrights, i also had no idea you were also making money, nice to hear how much you gained with the Terminator one!

    Just one more thing... I know these things take time, but I _really_ think you should consider during a straight speed run. By far the most frustrating thing about this game is how _long_ it takes, and cutting down the time on those tough enemies is going to be immensely satisfying to watch. Get three guns and three CD launchers in, and you can _really_ mop up. Imagine how cool a two-arms-one-leg on Mondor would look!

    Wow. Day-um. Gods. Wow again. Not sure I can fit all my thoughts here, but I'll try!
    First off, may I express my amazement that you took this game on at all. For one thing, the carnage makes Narc look like a Roadrunner cartoon. I'm trying to think of a gorier arcade game, and the only thing that comes up is The House of the Dead 2. After the Mortal Kombat flap, I'm surprised _this_ didn't generate all kinds of protests. Then there's the laserlike accuracy and massive firepower required, and much like Terminator 2, it's to such a degree that one player can't even get everything. But the biggest obstacle? It takes lots... and lots... and lots of damage to beat all the enemies. It's by far the longest haul of all the 90's Midway arcade games, heck, the final boss _alone_ will have some players asking "How much longer, dammit?"
    In the pre-reliable Internet era it was next to impossible to find them, so it wasn't until FAQs became a thing that I was able to really get into the game, but I had no idea just _how many_ there were. Here, I'll list the ones I knew nothing about: Getting the Trog, the NON Boys with the dancer, the second floor restrooms, the woman putting on a single stocking, going to the second floor _after_ the third, the gem, the secret room that requires the gem (I _wondered_ why you skipped past an empty hallway for no apparent reason!), and the paper fan holding a power shake. That many. Given the sheer ludicrous impossibility of finding _any_ of the Aerosmith members by chance, I can only speculate as to why Midway wanted to make this game so impenetrable.
    Oh, and thank you for cracking the numbers. I _love_ that part! Everything in a video game is quantified, and knowing how much damage or how many CDs or how long or how short is a valuable aid for understanding these videos. (I'm almost certain that the amount of damage you take is based on the difficulty setting. The default is Medium.)
    It was a blast! Well, more like hundreds of blasts, but you know what I mean.

    • @stephenmanuel9860
      @stephenmanuel9860 2 года назад

      Also, the operator menu lets you set how much "guaranteed play time" you'll get per credit, just like in T2. Can't recall what the default is, but you'll never run out of energy before that time limit.

      In Terminator 2: Judgment Day, pretty much everything can do massive damage against you, and there are two colossal stumbling blocks which will suck your life dry _repeatedly_ unless you have the reactions of a ninja. Getting the good ending is extremely hard with two players and essentially impossible with one. Revolution X is full of enemies and areas that are a major slog to overcome. Helicopter! Stone column corridor! Slime skull! Missile-firing hovercraft! The _entire_ Middle East level! Getting the good ending is... unforgiving.
      It's like asking me if having bronchitis or gout is worse... it's hard to make such a fine distinction when both are that brutal!

    • @AWGragg007
      @AWGragg007 2 года назад

      @@hawaiidkw1 Yea, alright fair point. Both games are for the most part equally brutal, I'll definitely give you that. I was just curious which, if either, people thought from their own experiences was the tougher game. But I get that they're pretty equal in difficulty and it probably just comes down to opinion on which is harder to complete in the arcades...though I'd say T2 is probably a bit more of a headache...but that's just my opinion. And I'm talking playing solo, I know regardless of what game it's a whole different situation with 2 players. 🙂

If it were a manual input method then his cursor would go over fully destroyed/collected objects again...like in the bathroom for example, BUT he never does that.
